My Dogs Have Killed A Snake And Eaten The Head
Chocolate replied to Chocolate's topic in General Dog Discussion
We're back from the emergency vet. The dogs are okay so far. I have to check they can walk okay and are normal every hour she said throughout the night. Apparently symptoms can take up to 24 hours to show. My past experience has been that the dogs react within a fairly short time if they've been bitten but appently it depends on where they were biten etc. I think I'm going to take out pet insurance for sure. The emergency vet fees are so high. It was $300 just for the consult and tests costs a further $400. Then if your dog needs anitvenom you're looking at $2-3,000. Thanks for your help everyone. -
My Dogs Have Killed A Snake And Eaten The Head
Chocolate replied to Chocolate's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks for replies guys. I rang emergency and they've told me to bring them in as they will most likely have been bitten. I'm going to go down now. -
Does anyone know whether a dog is okay after eating a snake head. I've found a dead brown snake near them and they have clearly been chewing it from the head down the hole head is gone. I'm worried as to whether the venom in the head could be harmful. Anyone with knowledge please respond.

Normal Behaviour After Desexing?
Chocolate replied to Karelea Aussies's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm sorry I don't know anything about MDR1 but I do know this is not normal behaviour your dog is displaying and I would most certainly be contacting the vet pronto as it has been going on for several days now. Best of luck and let us know how you go. -
Maggots (up Date : Now Talking About Other Yucky Things)
Chocolate replied to Erny's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just boil the kettle and pour boiling water over them. They won't survive that it will kill them instantly. -
Surely dogs from different families wouldn't be fed together. No dog carer would be that stupid!

OK - so how come my dogs who eat meat on the bone every single day for every single meal poo out rocks and not treacle? Dogs can't digest whole grains and unprocessed vege and don't have the correct intestinal make up to make use of carbs as their primary source of energy. They have the gut of a carnivore combined with the stomach acids of a scavenger. Because meat on the bone means they are eating not just meat but some bone as well which gives a very different consistency to meat on it's own. Raw meat on it's own (protien only) = treacle poo Raw meat on bone = calcium poos, firm poos that crumble and turn white in time Raw meat plus roughage from vegies/grains = balanced poos, not too hard, not too soft Scavengers eat everything and everything edible for balance.

I entered details for one of my dogs. Do you want as many individuals as possibe though as I have several.

that is why you purchase a good large/giant breed puppy made for that sized breed. Yes larger breeds should grow slowly as their growth plates close and bones harden later then the tinyer breeds. So a massive heavy dog on soft puppy bones = problems. I dont use VAN it's just dry veges and massive amounts of grains which I see pooped out whole. Some people swear by it I think it has more to do with the quality of the protein source you use then the VAN. The bits pooped out whole are meant to be. Some ingredients are purely for roughage and it says on the pack to expect to see some coming through whole. It's also about balance. Protein given to a dog on it's own produces treacle poos due to unbalanced diet. Protien fed with carbs, vegies, roughage gives balance and you see this with consistency of poos.

The Proheart 6 (6 monthly) was banned overseas due to so many deaths , seizures etc it caused. They have re-introduced it back in June this year & every customer has to sign to say they understand the risks,so it still has the dangers , nothing has changed in the "ingredients". Our Proheart 12 here in Australia is supposedly 3 times the dosage of Proheart 6 that was banned! Oh boy! I haven't used it myself but I know a dog I bred has been given it at the beginning of this year. That's a worry. It's not safe but being dispensed daily at the vets!

Thanks for your responses Wuppywomen and Collies02. I think it is always good for the consumer to be knowledgeable about products and find out as much info as possible. You've helped to answer some questions. I will contact the WA rep for further info.

I think in reality the packaging of the food isn't a major cost, you'd be talking just several dollars. My concern is why doesn't the company that manufacturers it want to brand it and put their name to it? It's sounds kinda of fishy - there is more to it. I notice no one responded to my question on what State it was made in even. And it is a big secret on who manufacturers it - why?? ETA The price of it in Perth is no cheaper than what I can purchase named quality brands like Royal Canin, Proplan and Artemis for so I wouldn't be paying $90 for a plain white bag of NO NAME food which I have no way of knowing about the quality assurance of the ingredients and manufacturing methods.

Na na na nooo. Any export product would not be sold in a plain white bag with a label stuck to it. The Japanese market would never accept or buy it. What they are saying is that the bag contents are what is exported to Japan but it would be in a proper bag with a brand name for the Japanese. What is being sold here is the same product but not in the branded bag so the contents are put in a plain white bag with a label stuck to it and non branded. So then the question is why is it being put in a plain white bag and not branded?????

Vaccine Reaction Or Something Else

Vaccine Reaction Or Something Else
Chocolate replied to pixie_meg's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
With the elbow lump you are concerned about which feels soft like it is full of fluid, I think this is common in large breed pups that drop themselves to the floor banging the joints instead of placing themselves down carefully. The joint protects itself by putting out fluid which forms quite a sack of fluid over the joint area. Very common in elbows. I may be off the mark but I am surprised nobody else has mentioned this possibility and neither the vet. I can't remember the name it given just at the moment. -
Sure does help K9Katz. Many thanks for your prompt response:-)

I've just got Outward Hound Designer Cooling Bandanas for mine. They look like they have a larger surface area than the Polar Collars so should work better.
