Hi, My maiden bitch is due the end of this month and she has obviously been getting more and more itchy or uncomfortable around the belly. Last night she kept me awake with her constant fanny licking and boob/belly licking. I'm interested to hear what other breeder's remedies are for this.

Best to get the vet to see her. It could be anything from Vaginitis to Pyometra or as someone else said even a Urinary infection.

Hi Cavalblaze, I'm really really sorry to hear you've lost a baby and others are going down hill. I haven't read the other posts so you may have already had these suggestions but if not... To make sure she stays with the babies and looks after them whilst you're not around either crate her with them or put a puppy pen around her whelping box. She needs to look after them and from what you are saying she is not wanting to stay with them. Also you say she has heaps of milk. Squeeze her nipples off milking her a bit to relieve some of the pressure, she may be feeling uncomfortable and it will make sure she doesn't get mastitis. You've got heating now so that's super as it's very important they stay warm otherwise they can't digest the milk. All the best. ETA Just read she's vomitted and your'e off to the vet. If she is unwell it would explain why she's not wanting to look after the pups fulltime. Hopefully the vet will get her back on track.

My girls suck them up in an instant as they come out and I'd never interfere with this natural part of the birthing process.

My dogs have tried it and loved it. -
Congratulations Cavalblaze on your new family!

This is a prime example of why dogs should not be left on their own in a backyard whilst owners go away, it's just too dangerous, so many things can go wrong and often do. I've heard countless stories of dogs being left and dying whilst there owners are away. I know of a chap who is about to leave his rotty for 6 weeks on his own in the backyard with someone going in once a day to feed it because he's too tight to pay for professional boarding. I'm really glad your lovely Borzoi is okay with the kind help of your neighbours but it is not safe leaving dogs any more than a normal working hours. Please don't take this as a personal attack as it is not I just want people to realise it is not the thing to do.

They took Mimi in for the U/S and the vet said no one hear knows how to use it so we'll have to palpatate her instead Two vets felt her and said yes she is definatley pregnant with a few babies in there! She's due end of June/beginning of July. I am only just confident enough to say I think Vanilla is pregnant as she's beginning to get thick through the body. She's been showing behavioural differences like wanting heaps of fussing and strokes. She's been laying in bed for the last couple of weeks also, I have to drag her out as she's too comfy to get up! She began a funny little habbit of nibbling at her front legs whilst in bed at night prior to us falling asleep. If I stroke her she stops but as soon as I stop she nibbles again, very quirky So if she has taken from the first mating she would be due about 23rd June. She has been mated to grandad Deej who is 12 this year.

Well speaking of weight gain... We got to the Vet this am and weighed Ochre and she was 9.8kgs, then when we went back a couple of hours later she was 10.1kgs :D . Same scales, no food or water had been had, so I have NO idea what happened there :p Chocolate do you have any ideas, is this normal, (well as normal as you can get with a Basenji :p ) ??? Maxbox, thanks, very happy :D ... I wouldn't really expect her to put on 300g within a few hours without food or water so I would be blaming the scales! I know when my guys go on the vet scales the digits flip around a bit until they are totally still for a moment. What weight is Ochre normally? I get to find out if Mimi (Milo/Khyber) daughter is pregs tomorrow as her owner Debbie is getting her ultrasounded. She was mated to her grandsire Blade.

Congratulatons Rajacadoo, what wonderful news for you guys!

Unfortunatley the show scene is not welcoming of new people. New people mean more competition. I have tried to introduce a few new people and it doesn't take long for them to realise how cold, nasty and petty a lot of dog people are at shows. One evening I had invited 4 friends to join me at a large 4 day show. As it was over 4 days there were clear instructions for people to not stick gazebo's ring side if they weren't showing that night to allow room for those who were showing. Of course this was ignored as people like to claim their space at shows so the ring side was lined with empty gazebo's when I arrrived on the first night. Well I sat in front of an empty gazebo next to the ring we were going to show in. Friends arrived and being taller than me popped the gazebo up from half height to full so their heads weren't hitting the gazebo. After a while we get a couple of females come over and pull the gazebo back down into half position and accuse us of stealing a peg. It wasn't their gazebo but a friends apparently. My friends could not believe what they were hearing, being accused of stealing a peg just defied belief! Well I was certainly very embarrased by my fellow dog lovers! And later realised one of these ladies is a judge. Next night still sits a row of empty gazebos so we sat in front of the half height gazebo again. These women still weren't happy they wanted us no where near the emtpy friends gazebo and even got people to pretend it was theirs and that they would be wanting to use it in a minute so we'd best move.

I am having an 11 year old collected today by a different vet. I'll let you know what their report says. Fingers crossed all goes well.

They said they would send it to me but never did. I would really like my Frozen Puppies Semen Report.

I tried my dogs on Artemis Maximal and it didn't suit them at all. Their poos were so soft that pickup time was a nightmare. It was also particularly smelly with a bad odour. Things didn't change after two large bags so I wouldn't buy it again but I wonder if the other Artemis products are better as there seem to be some good reports on this posting. Some have stated Osopure was used, perhaps this is better.

The letter did come 3 months after the collection date. They did say in the covering letter that there have been delays in sending reports. I don't think my letter is ever coming as it's been years!!
-
You were lucky to get info. They never gave me any info on my collection.

Hi Whippitgood, Congratulations on your litter

May I ask which company you choose please.

Puppy Vaccination Schedule
Chocolate replied to Black Bronson's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi Black Bronson, It needs to be understood that their are different vaccines made by manufacturers and there are indeed ones than can be administered safely twice only with no need for a 3rd at 16wks as they specifically get through the dams antibodies. So if you go to your vet and he gives say a Protech C3 at 6-8 wks and then another 4 weeks later that is all that is needed. Other vets use vaccines which require three shots to provide full immunity. So trust your vet he has told you that brand does not require a 3rd 16 week vaccination as he knows the brand used. Sorry, but you wouldn't get me to touch Fort Dodge Vaccines with a 40ft pole after the class actions they have out against them. No need to be sorry, each to their own but I personally have never had any problems at all over the years with my pups being vaccinated with Protech C3. -

Puppies Vacc Too Young, How Long Does The Person Watch Them
Chocolate replied to Jibba's topic in Breeders Community
Do you know what they were vaccinated for? Don't some breeder's do Parvo injections very early if it is rife. -
Trust your dog. If he's not interested then she's not ready. I wouldn't worry at Day 15, every bitch is different. You could always get a progesterone test done so you know where she is.
