Allergies And Anal Glands
peigirl replied to Domestic Dreamer's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Awesome, you're in Perth and Clare is great. I've seen her with my boy who has bad atopic allergies. Maiko at the moment you don't know if you're working with a food intolerance or a contact/atopic allergy. Wait until after you've seen Clare to buy anything as she will suggest a full diet/supplement/allergy plan of attack. Please let us know how you go with your appointment. We (ok me ) would be very interested to hear what she suggests. -
Certainly sounds like Mason is in goods hands with this surgeon. Stay positive and crossing my fingers and toes for you with the ultrasound.

Midol, my boy gets feed exclusively on the Macro Meats roo mince from SA. Costs me a damn fortune but its the only meat/brand of roo meat he can stomach, literally as he as ibd and food intolerances. It's around $7/kg here but really good quality. Buy it from Coles if it makes you feel better lol.

Nothing worthwhile to contribute re passionfruit but it sounds like it would be very cute to watch ;)

Some mashed up sweet potato or pumpkin will also get things moving.

Giving Vitamin E When Feeding Fish Oil Supplements
peigirl replied to kbo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
kbo I wouldnt worry about the extra Vit E oil. I would be more concerned about rancidity of the salmon oil before you give it to your dog - make sure you are getting a good quality one. 'Fresh' oil like any food/supplement you give them will be absorbed pretty much straight away and not have the opportunity to go rancid and oxidise in the body. -

Wholesale Meat Supplier In Perth?

Thanks I heard there was a good pet meat place on South Street. Bit of a mission for me down from Joondalup but hopefully worth it. -
Beahvioural Changes After Desexing?

I had mine done at 20 months. Made no difference to him whatsoever, but he was never a humper to begin with. -
Entropian Surgery For Older Dogs
peigirl replied to labsrule's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Labsrule it is still a bit hard to see from the pics but the lower lids definitely look swollen. To give the poor boy some relief until you sort out surgery I would use some Lacri-lube - this is regular human grade eye lubricant you buy from the chemist. It has the consistency of vaseline. Put a dollop on the end of your finger and glenty rub over the surface of the eye. He will blink it in. There is no active ingredient as such so use liberally ~ say 3 times a day and hopefully it will give him some relief. -
Entropian Surgery For Older Dogs
peigirl replied to labsrule's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm a bit confused here. What does pigment have to to with entropion. Isn't entropion about eyelashes growing inwards and rubbing on the eye? The pigementation is what occurs from the irritation of the eyelashes rubbing on the eye. Are you sure? The rubbing causes ulceration which can lead to scarring but what does this have to do with pigmentation? -
Entropian Surgery For Older Dogs
peigirl replied to labsrule's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Common procedure for Shar Pei. My boy had it done top and under eye on both eyes at 20 months. He had stitches for 10 days and bucket collar. My vet performed the surgery but he is a Shar Pei specialist vet. The bucket on my boy's head was a bigger annoyance for him than the surgery itself. Peibe will have more to tell you I'm sure. -
Where Are You Getting Your Titre Testing Done?
peigirl replied to J...'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The parvo/distemper tests done here in Perth normally are available within 5 working days. It only costs $80-$90 over here. -
NN I would question if it could be reflux? Is it immediately after eating or at other times too?

I've never heard of her before but she looks interesting, I didn't know there was such a thing as a homeopathic vet. Thanks! OT but in reference to other post - She is an interesting vet to visit. She uses primarily homeopathy and kinesiology. To be honest I didn't get alot out of my boy's visit with her but in all fairness I'd already been working through his inflammatory bowel disease, food intolerances and atopic dermatitis for about 16 months or so before I went to see her. By then I'd stabilised his weight and was also largely back in control of his conditions. She was interesting to speak to, watch her do the kinesiology and gave me a few good ideas to try.

Steriods should be your absolute last resort after youve looked at diet, environmental factors, shampoos etc. True allergies are also something that are not normally present (though there are exceptions in severe cases) in puppies under 12 months of age, nor are they diagnosed with symptoms that have only been present for a week. Do a search on this forum for itches and/or allergies, you will find plenty of info.

Ascot Vet Hospital 297 Great Eastern Hwy, Belmont Ph 9277 7488. Around $90 for parvo and distemper. They will do hepatitis too for an extra $40 or so which gets sent to the UK for testing. Connolly Vet Hospital in Joondalup also does it too I'm told.

Are their teeth clean? Tooth decay smells a bit.

I use Proheart tablets every month, Drontal all wormers tablets every few months and Advantage for fleas if/when required. Agree, no chemicals unless necessary!

Grumble, grumble. Wrong state

So you do officially have a freak dog then? At least its gone now.

Not knowing any better at the time my boy had the heart worm vacc at 6 months. Talk about regret it. He will be 3 this July and has suffered from the age of roughly 10 months medically diagnosed inflammatory bowel disease, food intolerances and rather severe case of atopic dermatitis. He now has antihistamines every day and will eat a restricted diet indefinitely. I also know of another girl Rotti baby on this forum that was given the heart worm vacc at 14 weeks and suffers from worse atopic dermatitis than my boy. Coincidence? I dont know, but I wouldnt risk it.

Definitely, definitely not. No way any dog, let alone a 14 month old pup should get this injection. Just go with monthly tablets. Far to many dogs have had adverse reactions to it. Do a search in the health forum, you will find plenty of information. Your pup will be more than adequately covered with monthly tablets.

Out of curiosity how much does it cost?
