Bartok yes I will talk to the pei people too. Steph just popped out a baby a couple of weeks ago, I wouldn't dream of bothering her now. Raf is not normally an overly affectionate dog, but loves people and especially males, which is why I am thrown off by his recent behaviour.

Very aware of this but it had literally happened a second before. He was still on the bed when I entered the room so I got him off, sat him down and told him off. It was just my reflex response to the situation. In his mind you told him off for getting off the bed. He obeyed you and got roughed up! Meeting aggression with aggression is always risky.. especially for you. Point taken PF. It was just my first (and bad) reaction.

I have been very aware of the change in dynamic and have been very conscious to alter their routine at little as possible. They are still walked/run every morning and evening (hot weather currently permitting). Still plenty of cuddles and play time. Yes I am out a bit more sometimes in the evenings, but this is only after the structured evening walk/feed. Weekends I have always been in and out, so this is no different. And yes both are now banned from the beds, couches etc.

Too late and not a helpful response. Time to make adjustments. I'd suggest some professional advice but in the mean time I'd have BF do all the feeding and share walking the dogs. I'd be sleeping Raf in a crate. How much training have these dogs had? BF has done some of the feeding but I will make him do all. We also already share walking. Raf is 4.5 years, Sof is 1.5 years. Both have basic obedience but are not crate trained.

Hello guys, need some help with Rafael. For the first time in 4 years, I'm now dating someone and has myself a boyfriend Sofia initially was a bit weary of a new person visiting/staying over at our house but warmed within a few days and is her regular crazy lovey self. Raf on the other hand is not so impressed and while he is totally fine around the BF in my presence, a few escalating incidences have me concerned when they've been alone together. First of all BF got out of bed in the middle on the night and stepped on a sleeping Raf for which he got nipped on leg (no broken skin). Second again in the middle of the night BF has got out of bed and stopped to pat Raf on the way to the loo. Raf (who was awake and licking himself at the time) has given another nip this time on the wrist (again no broken skin). Last incident was this morning - Raf laying on the bed and the BF has gone to shoo him off so I can leave for work. This time Raf has snarled, shown teeth and gone to bite, but didn't connect. I walked into the room about a second later but just missed it. After I was told what happened I got Raf straight off the bed, sat him on the floor, grabbed his jowls and told him off straight in his face. I might also add Raf doesn't normally sleep on my bed, he had just hopped up there while I was getting ready for work. Would appreciate any advice please as I am very concerned! Raf has lived with a male before for years (my brother) but he is clearly unsettled by this new person in our space.

I'm a vegetarian and would never dream of feeding my dogs a vego diet. I got over my meat aversion very quickly when I got Rafael and now years later don't flinch when batching up stinking roo meat or chopping a chicken carcus in half. Both my dogs eat lots of vegies and fruit and Rafael happily would sell his soul in exchange for lentils/butter beans etc (he is slightly broked )

Alright, that's it can't take no more! When are you posting her over to me FM? She's such an adorable little nugget!!

Too cute. I'm not really a little dog person but am fast falling in love with frenchies.

Already have. $30 off if no hepatitis tested. About to have Sofia TTed in the next month as she'll be 16 months and going to do all three purely out of curiosity. Rafael is just getting over a bout of kennel cough which amazingly Sofia didn't come down with. She was only ever given C3 vaccs as a pup and yet has pulled this amazing immunity out of nowhere, strong little girl.

Parvo, distemper and hepatitis will set you back just under $200 at Ascot Vet Hospital. Not a cheap exercise, but better than the alternative.

Thanks for the replies. Coughing progressed to goose honking (for want of a better description) this morning so we went off to the vets. Diagnosis is an inflamed trachea - mild KC. Lymph nodes are normal and his appetite is still good. I have cough syrup for him and if he worsens in the next few days vet will dispense ABs. He's had a very quiet day rugged up in his jacket as its still winter here in Perth unlike the rest of oz. I will definitely get some honey in him too but just a little bit. He also suffers from eosinophilic IBD and he's already on metrogyl at the moment from a flair up earlier in the week. Would rather not exacerbate the gut/bowel to add to his troubles! Clearly you're a good sort AF, I swear he doesn't try to jump in just anyones car! ;)

Thanks BD. Sounds like a vet trip is in order!

Hi guys Wondering if anyone can offer advice. Rafael (4 and a bit years) has started with dry deep, hacking cough since yesterday evening and it seems to be getting worse (especially after a play/run). Cough was the only sympton until earlier this evening when he vomitted up some water. Is this kennel cough or something different? I've not had any experience with it before. He's never been boarded and Sofia appears to be fine.

I got to my breeders house and got accosted by four adult Shar Pei before I got anywhere near the puppies. Who am I kidding? I loved it and got down on the ground for cuddles with everyone!!!

No it didn't affect our bond. By nature he is not an overly affectionate dog, but I don't think that's relative to bond. Certainly no issues with him trusting me when it came me touching him or administering medication. -
Like I said loose wax will cause those symtoms described - even if its only just a little bit. Is Loki still shaking his head today SM? If I took my dogs to vet everytime they were shaking their heads with an ear wax build up I would be there weekly. Epi-Otic is a strong alcohol based cleaner and it will sting inflamed or irritated skin. I don't use it and there are other products you can use that do the same job.
-
It's not a good idea to fill ears with anything before a vet consult. You cannot see a dog's inner ear from the outside. Head for a vet - better safe than sorry. My point is the vet visit might not be necessary. Its the wrong season for grass seeds. A floating piece of ear wax or loose piece of hair will cause scratching/rubbing/head shaking. I have two dogs with narrow ear canals who regularly have a wax build up and I can always solve any discomfort by simply cleaning their ears. Yes a vet visit might be necessary but nothing is to be lost from a simple clean first.
-
Before you nick off to the vets - have you actually tried cleaning his ears first?

Out of desperation (and lack of time to go hunting around - no pun intended) I've been purchasing roo mince from my local WHOLESALE butchers. They only now supply the human TOP grade roo ............... at between $13 - $15 per kilogram . Mandela's been eating a couple of kg per day over the last couple of days. And he had the audacity to turn it into black diarrhea!!! . And to add insult to injury, my investment in the food for him has paid dividends in the way of rotten farts. Ouch and I'm complaining! My boy has the most sensitve tummy on the planet. The Macro Meats brand (1kg vacuum sealed bag) from Coles/Woolies etc is totally agreeable to him, all other brands I've tried have been far too rich. Perhaps give it a go? No roo farts in this house!

SG do they do human grade roo mince? My IBD boy gets human grade roo mince everyday and at $7.30/kg costs me a bloody fortune from the supermarket!
