People Not Controlling Their Dogs At Obedience
shoemonster replied to Ruffles's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yeah I'd talk to the instructor And hopefully they will mention it when they see it happening Our instrcutors are pretty good if the dogs are messing around, they will tell the owner not to let them A few times I've moved to the end of the line in class when Eddie has been really distracted too -

Yeah I felt a bit bad as I told Kitty we were going to come but then we got there Sunday arvo, weren't sure if the dogs would still be going and couldn't justify the entry When we went to Berwick they wanted a similar fee and we were there at 8.30 am and the Highland thing didn't start til 10 so we sat on the other side of the oval so we weren't in the Highland section but could still see quite well It is good that the flyballers get different people watching though, people who are there for the highland stuff -

I didn't mean to offend, but I was surprised at the price, I understand where you're coming from though, I apologise I would have thought it would be around $5 if anything, we just couldn't afford the $30 for both of us Thanks for the info on the next couple of events -

We did the same, turned around at the $15 entry It seemed a bit rich when we were completely uninterested in the highland stuff!!! When is the next flyball comp in Vic on? -

Train Without Treats

lol I know what you mean I have heard that clicker training is good I think you can start with food then go to no food which may help you out I have been contemplating using it myself and am starting to read up on it - there are lots of websites on it -
Unsure About Food - Any Help Welcomed
shoemonster replied to staffylovers's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I read once that dogs don't get salmonella from raw chicken as their bodies react differently to things like that than humans do, is this right? I didn't know raw eggs had that risk, people drink raw eggs - Well I don't but some shakes and egg nog have it!!! Is that a problem? -

The vets always tell you to give them dry, There are many debates about dry v's raw and I think it comes down to what you as thew owner decide you are more comfortable with We never gave our Stafford dry, he was weaned onto raw meat and veg, and he is extremely healthy but we have to fight with the vet everytime we go as they want to promote their dry food that they get commissioned for selling If the only reason the vet told you not to feed raw is that it is not balanced then in my opinion I would disregard the vets advice and look alot more into barf and raw feeding and make the decision once you feel you know abit more! Good luck and you should post some pics of your amstaff!!! -

Does Anyone Else Find Obedience Really Tiring?
shoemonster replied to missymac's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
May be something to do with your choise of dog lol The others in our classes with gt's have to work so much harder!!!! They just want to play the whole time I love obedience but my 7 month old stafford boy is an angel (I've been lucky!) -
Mmmm, depends on what you mean by "good"!!! Bad news is that he has fractures in all 4 toes on his right foot, they are little chips and the worst is the one that is sitting funny But the good news is that the treatment we are already giving has been correct and he doesn't require any surgery or further confinement or anything We will still stop him from running and jumping but can go to obedience and short walks and gradually build it up and his swimming is definately a thumbs up!!! We're going to look at it in another 6 weeks and hopefully it will fuse and cause no real problems in the future, but worst case he has anti inflammatries as needed in the future and it may get arthritic So fingers crossed for further healing for my boy

lol Yeah I've seen that thread, it's rather large Might head over!
-
 So true! What do you do anyway?
-
He does love his cuddles........ I'm not doing much work today!
-
OK I just rang, he hasn't been done yet arrrgggg He'll be xrayed at 3 But they said he's just been to the loo and had a cuddle so that's good!
-
Yeah I hope I'm impatient at the best of times!
-
NO  I hate waiting I'm going to ring them at 2, I'll bet they haven't even done him yet This sucks
-
Malleerr, yep that was Eddie!!! CBL, hopefully we will be there, I can't see them wanting to confine him again or anything, he's not in any pain or anything I will post when the vet rings, still waiting waiting waiting! I hate him being there, though he's probably trying to win everyone over
-
Well this morning I found a chewed up bottle of eye drops in Eddie's cubby house So we rushed off to the vet who looked at the ingredients and said, he'll be fine (thank god) We were going tonight to the vets anyway as some may remember I posted about Eddie's sesamoid injury which has been going for about 6 weeks, with various treatments He's not lame anymore but he is also not doing much apart from swimming and obedience - no running and only short walks, it does not seem to be bothering him His toe is "loose" it sits funny when his foot is down and the nail is longer than the others as there is no pressure holding it down So they are xraying him at the moment to investigate further, and I am at work, not feeling particuarly motivated and just waiting for them to ring really so I can get my baby home and hopefully have a definate on what is wrong

I lost both my original girls this year, it's so hard I have 6 others, 2 boys who are 2 and four girls who are 18 months I hate losing them but the two we lost were sisters and they couldn't be without each other
-
Thats a great age for them to get to They are such precious little buggers aren't they?

Small Brag - Obedience
shoemonster replied to shoemonster's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I was showing someone Cooper the other day while he was in class, it went something like this "Eddie has a beagle best friend, he's in class at the moment, over there" "Yeah the one who's lying on his back wriggling around on the grass and Tan is the one trying to get him to stand back up again!!!!" Of all the times for him to do it hahaha!
