We have 2 10 month olds and it is still hard to train them unless one is away but they are ok when seperated - and they have only been together since they were 8 months they are very attached to each other but we started them out having time out each and it has worked I would strongly suggest that you start seperating them now or you will end up with 2 dogs who can not be apart Get a crate and crate one while the other is training or tie one up They will learn quickly and if you keep the training short and only finish on your terms (ie not cos they are sooking) then you should be ok, you just have to be strong at the start!!!

I liked the way used in the book Marley and Me, to drop it on the ground and pretend they aren't meant to have it!!! Would work with my two but they eat anything! Laughing cow cheese sounds like a goer though
-
We were told by our breeder not to have two at once as we were (are!!!) novice owners, I have never had dogs before She advised us to get one, let them grow up and enjoy their youth and then with training etc out of the way, think aout the other When Eddie was 8 months, Molly came up and though it was sonner than we had planned, we decided that because Eddie was such a hassle free pup, we would do it My god 2 puppies are a handful, I don't think as a novice, I could have handled having them both from babies In a perfect world, we would have waited til Eddie was about 18 months but though they can get together and be very naughty together i wouldn't part with Molly for anything Sorry for rambling! I guess like the others it depends on their previous doggy experience

Yeah obedience is great fun, I love going and look forward to it twice a week now, it's such a thrill when they learn new things

We had puppy preschool at our vets in the waiting room, it went for 4 weeks and was intended as a basics getting into puppy training and care and a bit of a play and then they gave us info on obedience clubs to continue with It was great but we didn't expect too much as it was a freebie that they did for their clients The real puppy training came when we started obedience training in puppy classes Have a look around and see if you can find somewhere else that you like, what area are you in? Oh we always cop it when we go to the vet about barf too! Eddie was weaned onto it and didn't we have to have a lecture every time we went to the vet as a pup :p

Yeah search here using crate or google crate training and you will get so much info your head will explode, I know mine did lol!!!!

Yeah I do the same if they break their wait, say arrgg and make them wait again for the rest of it, not much else you can do is there? I definitely don't let them keep eating Oh and I've heard chocolate teddy bear biscuits work well with a hand and a foot bitten off to suck through!!! -

Introducing New Puppy Into The Household (long)

Might even help to stop Zahra from trying to play too much with him and hassle him as we used to have to do this with Eddie and Tan's Cooper, Eddie would just annoy the crap out of Cooper and it wasn't really fair to punish Coop for it when he didn't do anything Just as Jake needs to learn it's not acceptable, Zahra needs to know she can't jump all over him Mmmm easy with a pup lol stoppping them from jumping around Good luck! -
Introducing New Puppy Into The Household (long)

Oh Anne, don't stress too much yet, it takes time Have you been putting the puppy first? maybe jake is jealous? They aren't together when you're not home are they? As long as you are there you can watch to see how they get along and if it wears off after a while I don't know enough about these things to give you real advice though! Eddie and Molly took a while, and they still have their moments as Molly wants to play more than Eddie, we just keep our eye on them and they are separate during the day -

I think it's always good to know as much as you can about these things and then decide how far to take it and how it relates to your personal situation Thanks for everyone's advice -
Dogs Dinner Before Your Dinner

Yogi, my concern was that it seemed to be an important part of lots of training and I wondered how much difference it could make Being that I've only been around dogs for a grand total of 7 months I don't understand how they work yet!!!! -

Ours sit and watch but they sit back a bit, so not directly under us This is something I will work on though, while they are still both young Eddie's gone a bit backwards since we got Molly, it's a competition now They are both 9 months, but they learn very quickly which is good when i know what i want to teach lol -

Good to hear others are in similar situations! And wondering the same thing Also you put the dogs away when you eat or are they in the room with you? -
I know that thw whole dominance/pack theory says that the dogs should eat after the humans What is the dogs are eating at 5.30 and the humans after 7 What would the theory be on this? Is it ok as it is not immediate, or should they still be eating after the humans Eg, i get home at about 5.15pm I feed the cats first after being home for 5 or so minutes and then I feed the dogs They sit quietly watching but not under my feet while I put their food in the bowl and they wait to be told ok before they can eat their meal Is this an ok situation or is it still asking for dominance issues? cheers Bel

Yeah a puppy pen is a good idea too!

Sorry, I left work and went home! Yeah crate her inside for small periods like 15 minutes If she barks, ignore it til she is quiet, and only ever praise her when she is quiet it will drive you more nuts at the start but she will start to understand quickly Chew toys and long lasting treats are good as they show her the crate is good Oh, and when the time is up, don't let her out if she is barking only if she is quiet Start the down stay at 30 seconds, then a minute, and build it up til she knows that it is expected EVERY time no exceptions My two still get a treat when they go to bed, not because they need it to go in but just becasue they like it, sometimes they evn put themselves to bed, no treat required! Make sure you do the same things every time, and don't do one thing one day and ot the next, like if you make her drop when you come in, do it every time or she will think it's optional I'm no expert at all, so others may have other ideas, my two 9 month olds staffords are pretty good, though goldies are known for not wanting to grow up lol
-
Have you ever thought about crating her?
-
Eddie always looks at me after he does it, like he's really proud of himself
-
My stafford boy burps all the time, but my girl stafford does the most feral farts!!!!! Such charming little people they are!!!!
