When To Start Training A Pup
shoemonster replied to TessaBella's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Any dog will put on weight if you treat too much If you find he/she puts on weight, use portions of their daily meals to treat train with, that way they aren't getting any "extra" food in the day -
When To Start Training A Pup

As long as the training sessions are short and fun you can start from the day you get him/her Find out about puppy preschool from your vet or other local vets and then later you can do obedience if you want There are a few cavs at our obed school anf they do well -
I use very small pieces of kabana, but i think it makes them fart lol So I am thinking of changing to something else At home I use those natures gift treats (the ones from the supermarket, liver chicken or beef) These are both pretty salty but they don't have huge amounts of them either and their normal diets are good, so i don't worry too much
-
The nylabones or equivilent are excellent if your dog is a chewer My 2 have the beef extra tuff ones, and they are constantly chewing on them I don't give any bones anymore (except chicken necks and frames with their dinner) after having a similar thing happen with Eddie, when he threw up bits of bone for a day, scared the crap out of me

Not very responsible of the breeder Yeah get her to the vet and you will feel better knowing what it is I agree with Rexy, piccies please!!!! What breed is she?
-
What has the breeder said about it? You really should contact them, and take a visit the vet if you are worried, for peace of mind
-
It will only take her a week to get big enough to step over the baby gate But that is a good idea, she might not react the same to a gate as she does a closed door
-
I'm not sure, my two give up after a while but OMG HOW CUTE IS SHE? ETA Not a very helpful post I just posted - sorry!! If nothing else it can be a bump!
-
When I taught Molly drop, I lured her with food from a sit, and as her front would go down her bum would come up So I just put pressure on her bum to push her down til she got the idea If he isn't nervous, then I would gently grab his front legs, it helps if you are an octopus though, so you can keep both legs down and hold a treat and a lead too! lol
-
Awww they are cute!!! Yeah puppy kongs are good for pups, just don't use them anymore if there are bits missing (goes for any rubber toys really, they are fine while they are still whole) I get heaps of toys from the $2 shop as mine chew anything, expensive or cheap! lol squeaky and rope ones they love With playing rough, as long as they are not being too aggressive with each other it should be fine, a loud clap, should make them look for long enough to distract them, or often I will call one of their names like I want to play and it normally stops them
-
They will sleep alot, as they are babies You should try to change their food gradually, as it might make them sick or at least runny poos I don't have a problem with raw for a ppup, my pup was weaned onto raw mince and veg, he never had puppy food Just make sure that you watch them with the chicken necks so they don't choke It's a good idea to bash them with a hammer first for young pups We didn't give Eddie necks til he was about 3 months I think, but he is a pig Can we have some pictures???
-
My staffords don't eat any kibble (they would but I don't give it to them) I give them raw mince veggie mix (beef mince with small amount of processed raw veggies mixed through it), chicken necks or frames and tinned sardines in oil, and small amounts of various offal I used to have different days for each type of food, but now give them a little of everything in their bowl, they love it

I have been having trouble teaching this one, as i taught spin and everytime the treat went behind them they would spin from a drop! OH decided that he would prove me wrong and teach it to them so he tried last night and I held the clicker He couldn't get them to do it so he had to physically roll them over the first few times with one arm on either side of the length of their body and flip!!!! While he was flipping I clicked for him 3 or 4 times and they had the idea, and we could lure as per the insructions Yay!!!! It took time but we got there
-
The crying can be normal - he is a baby, and is probably freaking out at being away from his litter mates Try putting a tshirt that you have worn in with him We wrapped up a windup clock (that ticks) in my husbands tshirt for Eddie when he was a bub Supposed to make them feel a bit more comfortable, don't know if it was because of that but Eddie had no real troubles With the poo, I would take him to the vet tomorrow morning, get them to check him out in general, not a bad idea for anyone getting a pup, even if they are healthy, you will be seeing the vet a few more times for vaccs and desexing anyway so good to make yourself familiar with them Better to take him and it be nothing, than leave him and risk the worst IMO Pics please?????!!!!!!!! And what is the little guys name?

Psycho Maniacs When I Get Home
shoemonster replied to shoemonster's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
lol Yeah when it was just Eddie, it was so easy, ignore him for 5 minutes and he was calm and ready to sit for a pat Now with the 2, if you ignore them, they just turn to each other I did have some success last night, I put Molly on her lead Eddie is pretty good, it's her that initiates everything, it was slightly less chaotic, much more tolerable, no flying leaps of the top of the couch, no knocking over vases (on top of cabinets mind you - not easily accessable!!!) -
