Which club are you? Not Berwick? Cos we're gonna add 2 more ball chompers soon! lol I don't understand how they can destroy them so quick when all they are doing is running with them in their mouth! -

Reducing Treats For Training

Ok, I will start that stuff, he's quite a calm dog in relation to gettign in the car and getting out, he will wait til I ask him to get out is most situations Once he's on the ground and sees the offlead area it's time for maniac Ed, so I will definitely go for the heeling after getting out of the car, etc, and then his reward will be being let off in the area I also got my orbee last night so will be using that as a motivator too, which will be great I can see Molly being very responsive to a dirty sock, though the only smelly ones are OH's and I don't touch them if I can help it! She will go nuts for anything she thinks she's not allowed to have! -
Teaching A Dog To Catch Treats?

This is not me training them to, this is me laughing my head off cos I wanted to capture how bloody unco they were at the start Now they will catch 9 times out of 10 after I used the "if you don't catch it, you don't get it" method Oh and then after they would catch it I would treat again, so that even if I missed rescuing a dropped treat there was still more of a reward for catching them -
Great start though! Only a few more bum bruisers and he'll get there! :D Good to hear about the brusing and bites

I think they must be, I really need to wear my glasses when we are doing it There's no other way they'd go through them so fast otherwise I think I'm gonna start at berwick when they come back from the break, I have started little bits of retrieves and turns and stuff that Kerry told me about to get them a little ready -
I want one! Thats cute!

lol yeah I don't know what happened to things with pockets! I do know before I got my dogs I wouldn't be caught dead in a vest with pockets though Hmm, Eddie, no way!!!! Why does everyone want my baby? I try to give Molly away but no one wants her Joke, poor Molls already has a complex! -

Yeah I do lots of doodling at home, I think I will doodle my turns with a throw of treat, as thats when the treat out of my hand isn't even motivation enough Yeah! I need a vest, I want a stafford club one so it has a stafford on it! I will have to get a different one for the moment though, they should be easy to find I guess being summer -
What type of tennis balls do flyballers use? My dogs will destroy a tennis ball in 2 throws, they don't even play with them, just pure fetching I need to find super dooper tennis balls I have seen solid tennis balls too, anyone know where these are available? Do flyballers use these maybe? If Eddie did flyball the ball would fall apart on the first run lol

OMG! How good would flyball on water be? lol Ed would be an absolute star! I've started teaching him to retrieve the ball, prep for flyball, but it's only been the last few months he's really gotten into balls (and did he ever get into them! 3 months ago you threw a ball he just looked at you, wasn't til he met a ball obsessed dog he realised how fun it is!), so it will be heaps of fun to do it now I think he might just be good at it!

I used to use smoked chicken and I shared it with Ed bloss, I'm glad this has helped you too as I was embarrassed first posting it! Leo, thanks Some of the vids are a bit older but the tennis ball was last night You are right with the lagging on turns, I will start throwing on turns to get him round quicker, thats a good idea, I had been trying to treat from my hand but it isn't enough motivation for him, throwing will get him running though! Great idea And I love the idea of using the food or ball to keep focus but not rewarding with it and revving him up before treating, that will be so helpful to get him off the bribes, as he will learn that it doesn't matter if I have them or not he will be rewarded from somewhere else, thankyou! I've stopped using the bag alot of the time, I need to get some more tops with pockets I think as my hoodie jumpers are great with the pcokets but its too hot (and i find pants pockets akward to get in and out of) I'm all motivated now! -
At one of my clubs they run the higher classes earlier, and its great, as while beginners are waiting they can watch the "good dogs" lol I think that every now and then the people running the club should come into a class and see whats going on, as alot of instrcutors can be outright rude to people I understand its hard to get volunteers at some clubs, but instructors like that are doing much more damage than good to the club I also love the instructors having their own dog in class to do demos, etc

Started using the tennis ball with Eddie out doing some heeling today I learnt a few things, the main one being if I'm using the tennis ball dont throw it as far as I do in this vid as he gets too revved up! Short throws work better -

Yeah so true, just like that article on motivation/reward Hey Stella I put a video in the video section of Ed heeling for the tennis ball, its a bit small, but he is getting the picture Have also been working on control before the ball is thrown, ie he has to sit, and I have been gradually moving back away from him to get him to realise that people need space if they are gona throw it -

Its so much easier to train the dog than to train yourself isn;t it? No wonder he confuses me, I must confuse the hell out of him! -
Ed's priorities in life are 1. Swimming 2. Tennis balls 3. Food 1 & 2 can be alternated but always stay at the top!

An instrcutor who I really admire told me to slow them down you call out to them to sit when they are a few metres away, it makes themn hesistate and they slow to sit before they knock you over
