Early Drive Building Question
shoemonster replied to corvus's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I was thinking the same thing, or just that Corvus really really wants to find a way to get everyone to agree that Steve's drive training is "bad" -
Early Drive Building Question
shoemonster replied to corvus's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
When you are doing drive exercises 3+ times a day and the dog is putting in maximum effort you dont want them exerting energy somewhere else as well, or you wont get maximum results, so as much as its about you becoming their world (which you are anyway as you control the walks) its about preserving energy as well so they can give it their all Its hardly depriving them when they are spending so much time training with you, in such a highly rewarding way -

I got a new gym ball today for me (very pregnant) but Im already thinking about doing the balance stuff like the dane lady, and building up core strength etc with the dogs for their flyball etc :p

I've heard many times on DOL people say that pet owners should be licensed too, which I dont disagree with, but the same reaction would happen, all the responsible owners would feel like they were being unfairly treated, everyone would complain that it is revenue raising and forget that there was a reason for it to happen in the first place, oh and the people who are going to abuse animals wouldnt bother to get the license anyway

Does anyone have any other ideas as to how a council can try to reduce the amount of BYB out there?

How Many People Here Use Berwick Odc's Facilities?
shoemonster replied to Paulp's topic in General Dog Discussion
Noisy staffords.....where?????!!!! -
Ah ok, I guess then if the papers are still in the breeders name, you might have had to show your membership The way the VCA go with processing papers lately, they take 3 months to get them back to you!
-
Would Companion Dog Club (which is a form of VCA membership) membership plus VCA registered papers be enough for Frankston council? CDC is only $25 a year, and as far as the requirement goes you need to show them the membership at the time of registering the dog, not further along the track, so you would only need the first years membership As another posted said also her vet wrote a letter saying the dog would be desexed at 6 months and they also accepted that This law may not be perfect (working dogs and breeds not yet recognised at ANKC), but it shows that they are trying to do something about byb and cross breeding. It had obviously been in planning for a while before it was passed?

Jess live die, you are talking about an experience with a completely different breed

If you look at the advice that has been given, the people who have done it are the breeders who kennel the dogs, not people who want 2 pet dogs, especially one for a child (who might be extremely responsible but accidents can and do happen every day, doors dont latch, etc) They are not telling you how you can make it work, because it more than likely wont work, Is there no way you could get a dog and a bitch, I know you say you are very attached to the pups, but surely it would be easier to bond to a new pup before you get it, than to deal with the many many potential disasters that could come from this combination

This is from years ago But given a bit more room its more fun to push it around a bit instead of just killing it (pics aren't too good sorry) She does the same with the Aussie Dog staffy ball, cos she cant pick it up, pushes it around with her nose/head, and can get it out of most situations she puts it in, only needed rescueing occasionally
-
True, very true!
-
Paul I can see you posting, you have no trouble with Ebon swapping do you?
-
If its the same as Ed its not what the tug is, its the getting them to understand the swapping of ball to tug/reward

preggers brain you did post! Orbees hurt too when they fly through and grab them!
-
Oh I love watching them problem solve like that, and to see how determined they can be in doing so
-
Oh lol that looks like fun! When we were away one of mine was playing with the fitballs with our friends kids, she would push it around using her head to guide it, and then try to bounce it off the top of her head :D
