With Ed it was definately a nerve thing not a drive thing, as he has very high drive now that his confidence has been built up, so I know exactly how you feel I also found somewhere public that was deserted (to get out of the back yard), so I didnt feel self consious, and that really helped too ETA we also used one of steves french linen tugs and he liked that way better than any rope, or nylon tug, much easier to bite on, but I like the rag (if thats what it is) that staranais uses too

The turning your back isn't about him having an audience, it's about walking off and the game being over unless he brings the ball back

Yeah thats the hard part! Lots of videos sent to Steve did it for me lol! Actually, maybe that could help you, if you can video yourself doing it (if you arent already) you might pick up on the different things you do when it works and doesnt work Video yourself with the intention of showing us (to put pressure on yourself) in the back yard and see if the tug still goes well, then you will know if its purely the location or if its your nerves!

It doesnt have to be food, it just has to be something he wants more than the ball he has, I've recently been working on trading a tennis ball for a frisbee with my dog, it was the only thing out of a lot of things we tried that worked for him The other thing you could do is if he prances with it walk off and the game ends if he doesnt bring it back to you Also personally I wouldnt have a second dog there while you are teaching him

Kavik, I was the same, I would get embarrased in public if Ed didnt want to tug, and therefore my own energy was lacking, I started TID with a prey toy, but with the camera, and the pressure I put on myself to get it right, it turned him off tugging and he seemed quite anxious alot of the time, so I did the course with food instead Now my confidence and Ed's has grown heaps and he will tug reliably in alot of places, he's like a different dog, and I'm definately a different person

I remember that, and since then I have on occasion used a single lead that way when my dogs were being a pain (like walking down the street with cafes, and they just want to sniff everyone) Just looped around their chest and held quite close to their backs - my OH cant do it with only one lead as he is too tall, but it worked for me I couldnt believe that it actually worked, but it did

Ive got the staffy ball and the tucker ball, and Molly is obsessed with both She also goes so hard her nose and muzzle bleed so we limit the staffy ball and have to sand it down all the time, she doesnt damage herself as much with the tucker ball cos its smaller

In Vic your number has to be stamped "Pass to ring" before you can compete on the day, from memory they didnt stamp Mollys so she had to get swabbed, she is desexed. The boys are stamped Pass to ring already when you get your number

Our 2 last Easter, they normally look happier but it had been raining so they were sulking! Their run line goes from under the annexe, out about 10m so they can go out there to the toilet etc. At night they are crated inside the caravan, they wouldnt deal with sleeping outside! When we go camping we have no power except for the invertors in the cars, a drop toilet and the only water is from the river Isiss dogs at camp In the river where they are happiest!

I know what my dogs would choose to do for fun if I put a flyball ring next to a dog park lol, I would rather my dogs be comfortbale but not interact closely with other dogs, due to past bad experiences and also the dog sport (and I do not believe they are deprived in any way)

Whenever we go camping our dogs are rarely offlead, we use a run line and they are perfectly happy, they can have limited freedom and they are completely safe I would have moved away from the people with the other dogs, though its really rude that they set up so close

Go toilet, and if they are stuffing around quick quick to hurry them up, I also use quick quick when crossing the road or anywhere else I want them to hurry up

Corvus do you mean having the drive reward off your body so the dog can be released to it, rather than you giving it to them from your hand?
