Thats me! our 2 are in the bathroom connected to our bedroom, on top of the bath, its out of the way, and still close enough so that we know if there is a problem
-
Yeah or take one out in the car without the other one, etc, just to get them used to the idea of not always being with each other 24/7 When they are older, sometimes take one to training, or out somewhere without the other, so they also interact with other people and dogs without each other too My 2 are so silly, they play with each other when there are other dogs around as they just seem to love eachothers company! Its like the other dogs are fun for a bit but they always go back to each other!

Seperating now is a great idea, I had 2 8 month olds (Ed we had from 8 weeks and we got Molly at 8 months, they are 1 day apart in age) and we never thought to seperate them, so we had a tough time later when we needed to and Molly stressed for him. They are fine now though

How To Train A Dog To Catch Food?

Yeah I used rice crackers to teach my guys, they work well as they are fairly light and they are also easy to grab if the dog misses! -
Problem In Trial Ring On The Day Only
shoemonster replied to Arya's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Have you set up a ring at your club with people she doesnt know being judge and steward? Maybe try to replicate a trial as close as you possibly can (judge, steward, no talking, etc) and see what happens, then you will know for sure if it is her or maybe some subtle vibe you are giving off. If you know its not a real trial you technically be different in your mind, and it might only be subtle, but if she switches off you will know it is something about the ring, or people or environment of a trial Hope that makes sense -
How To Train A Dog To Catch Food?
shoemonster replied to SALTWOOD's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
To get her to catch you need to make sure she cant get the ones she misses You will need to be quick and grab the bits that reach the ground before she gets them so she learns the only way she gets it is if she catches it -

Nah CD! They are very clever!!!! Well done both of you! -
Tonight, 2.7km, (to the fish and chip shop to get dinner and back ) Half of which was all grass, and half was us on the footpath/road, with the dogs on grass except for driveways

Thanks guys, she has lots and lots of ratty friends at the bridge now Freckles, I'm sorry about your boy

Cool, some great advice, thanks everyone I'm gonna bike rather than run as my knees just dont like the impact of running. Stella maybe I could ride and you jog? Or would it be too fast? I've been riding so that I am on hard surface and the dogs are on the grass, I think I already wrote that earlier though grotty, hmm a stafford is enough for me for the moment! My 2 are nearly 2 years old now so they will be an ok age by the time we are ready

I got this from http://vetmedicine.about.com/od/diseasesco...TP_dogfacts.htm Is it correct, and where do I take the heart rate from? wrist, neck?
-
Cool, will aim for the 25 min then, the dogs aren't fussed, they could go for heaps longer (but I wont push too hard) We live near the train tracks and there is a huge wide grassy area about 2km long that runs from one station to the next, so I could train up and down that. We take them for walks along there and they aren't bothered by the trains at all so they won't freak them

Maz died today, she was such a cute girly She had a great life, and I really wasn't expecting her to go when Basil is so old, he is like the invinsible man Maz leaves behind Basil and Boop, Bas is now 3 years and 3 months and Boop is 2 years and 9 months, so they are both going well for oldies Here is the gorgeous Maz when she was young and beautiful More recently she was blind but still running around happy and snuggling with her 2 buddies

Oh cool Stella I'm aiming for the sky (trial this year) but likely to reach the tree tops (trial next year) so we probably can do it together myszka, I can probably do more than that, but I was being lazy and didnt know how much I should do with the dogs to start with either, my legs dont hurt today so I know I can do more at a time, and prob twice a day, just got to get out of bed! If I'm building up myself slowly, why would it matter if the dogs are coming along too? I only ask as it seems weird to get myself fit, then have to hold back to build up the dogs, to me it makes more sense to do it all together?
-
The first post felt like you were making fun of me. I know it will be hard, but everyone has to start somewhere.
-
myszka, I already said I will need the most training, I have a past of bad knee problems, and I have screws in my knee so it's a big thing for me to even be aiming at doing this in the first place
-
SnT would love to meet for training Dagboy! I feel like that, the dogs are so much fitter than me! We did 1.5km last night, and the dogs were just trotting along at 10km/h (with my new speedo! hehe) and I was thinking OMG I can't be bothered, come on legs I am so unfit! OH has been coming with us and he just laughs at me as he does 10+km every day anyway. He takes Molly with him, so I'm trying to convince him to get her title when I get Ed's (attempt to get Ed's! lol)
-
I was wondering about that too
-
I bought a speedo for my bike tonight! And we have been riding on the road, close to the gutter so the dogs have the nature strip to run on mostly, I dont want to hurt their pads Oh I hope there are some more later in winter that we can do, I am so excited What heart rate should they have? Or is it more a case of their heart rate not jumping too high from their resting rate? And what temp should they be at?
-
Thanks Alanglen I saw the people doing the trial last weekend, we were there doing lure racing, and it got me motivated I have just realised though, on the 7th July my 2 won't be 2 yet They turn 2 on the 10th (Molly) and 11th (Eddie) July, bugger bugger bugger Will have to wait for next year Guess its a sign as the 5 weeks isnt long enough by the sounds of it Oh that makes sense about not doing the 20km all the time then as well, thanks
-
Oh no, the only one left I can do this year is the 7th July That gives me a month to train up I dont know if thats enough time
-
Oops SnT I didnt even think to search :0 There is some good stuff in here Ooooh 5 weeks, good for you! How exciting, I'm sure you will do great! Pax, thanks Has anyone heard of a reason why you would only train the dog up to 10-15km? It seems odd
-
Also does anyone know what speed you must stay at? I am getting a speedo for my bike this week
-
After seeing my 2 and how fit they look at lure racing I decided to get the bike out and do some running with them I am really interested in doing the Endurance trial, and want to train them and myself up for it Any ideas, tips, any other people want to join in on my journey to get into ET Have heard you arent supposed to train the dogs for the full 20km, but would love to know why? Currently the block we ride is 1km, I plan to run them a few nights a week with some rest days in between (days when they have training etc already) How quickly should I build up duration? A week at one duration, then add to it? Longer? Depends on how they are going? Thanks
