shoemonster replied to Purpley's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Well as Isiss will agree today I realised that though I may hold my dogs back, they are people who are holding theirs back much much more! I guess its good to see it in perspective sometimes Had a really good day today and am feeling really positive too -

Do You Think You Hold Your Dog Back?
shoemonster replied to Purpley's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Makes lots of sense to me I am with you, I know I hold them back, and I am thrilled for you that you've found a comfy place and Bronsy is doing SO well, I am very proud of you! Edited to add, I think alot of confidence comes with experience, and I've said before that I have never trained a dog before, and everyone has to start somewhere, and even though we may not be doing things perfectly at least we're not giving up -
I'm so sorry Whenever we lost one of our babies I used to think that their life is only short to us, to them its a full life He is with his brother now, and with my lot too, they'll keep him company

Just posting for a friend whose 3 year old male stafford has just been diagnosed with this The info the vet gave was all from a pet food company, and recommends their brand of food only, and also says this is common is staffords Just wondering if anyone had experience with it, and what was used to fix it, and prevent future problems? Any info would be much appreciated Thanks

Abit OT, but if the club you might go back to wont let you use a chain, will they let you use a martingale with the chain bit on it? He will probably still relate this type of collar to working

Looking good!!!! When you gonna trial that dog?!!! He's so enthusiastic, such a good boy -
My guidelines say 2% of their adult body weight when they are adults, but as puppies it can be anywhere up to 10% depending on their needs and how much they are growing Judge it by how they are looking each week, if they chunk up, reduce it back the next week, and if they get skinny add a bit more, as pups you will be continuously changing the amount they are eating until they reach a stable weight at adult age Better to have a lean puppy than a fat one I would also say get rid of the dry and probably add more bone & meat Raw Meaty Bones 35% Meat 45% Offal 5% Veggie 10% Treats 5%

I really like martingales for training and walking Hands free leash might be an idea for when you are walking with kids, but he might get a bit tangled if he prances too much! If you want to try it without buying one just loop your lead handle through your belt As you've already said, training really is the only real answer though!

Overweight Dogs Doing Dogs Sports
shoemonster replied to Cosmolo's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I think its worse when the people know their dog is overweight and they do it anyway as "the dog loves it" It's hard cos instructors really need to tell the people if they think the dog is OW, as they will probably be the first to get blamed when the dog starts having problems "you didnt tell me my dog shouldn't be doing it, etc" -
Shar Pei / Obedience Trialling?
shoemonster replied to Miss Squish's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
There is a shar pei that trials in Vic at the moment, I think it's either ccd or cd but could have passed up to higher since I saw it
