Mother Locks Herself And Five Children In Dog's Cage
Jodi replied to Chris the Rebel Wolf's topic in In The News
Was thinking the exact same thing. -
To be clear, the person surrendering the dogs is not a friend of mine. I have been contacted through a friend of a friend as I have been privately rescuing for some years now. (Used to spend a lot of time here until things went a bit pear shaped with a dog I agreed to help somebody with--the somebody wasn't honest and it really frazzled me) Aaaaanyway, I can't be sure that she hasn't put contacting the breeders in either the too hard basket or the I am too ashamed basket, and will be clearing any re-homing that is done through me with them first. I have not been forwarded the info as yet, and will definitely be contacting the people you have all mentioned. Your help is appreciated.

Apparently, the breeder wants nothing to do with it. I am waiting on the breeders details so that I can contact and confirm this for myself and then I will take the next step. I just didn't know if it would be likely that the breeder would be so blase. Thanks again.

That was my thought too Mita, thanks

I'm not sure where to put this question, so I will start here. I have been contacted by an owner who is moving interstate for work and will be traveling and can't take her 2 cavs with her. She was wanting to surrender them, but when I found out they were purchased from a registered breeder, (I can't recall if they are papered off the top of my head) I advised her to contact the breeder regarding her situation. Apparently the breeder isn't interested. I am yet to find out who the breeder is and if this infact how the scenario is. Can anyone advise me if this is likely that the breeder would just wipe their hands clean of 2 of their dogs? (obviously provided they are a registered breeder). Thanks.

My dogs hate going for a walk in this weather. All 3 of them hate getting their feet wet. It's quite pathetic really. Ollie, (staffy x) actually cries. LOL! Good on you for braving the weather, it was so bad today!

My rotti x is 8 years 9 months and she just seems to have turned into an old lady over night. Her hips are starting to go, no obvious sign of pain (yet), her eyes have gone all gunky, she dislocated her jaw last night (and relocated it herself, it was hideous), she has a bald patch on her back and her ears are all dry on the inside. Her front teeth have started to wear away and break too. She is happy within herself and eats and drinks and still manages little walks. She just looks like a poor decrepid old dog! LOL. We are going for a vet check up Monday arvo, but I was wondering, how old is old? I know rotti's don't have a huge life span, does the cross (not that we know what with she was a poundy) make much of a diff usually? She has been a really healthy dog all her life, I know the hip thing was bound to happen, but I'm not ready for my baby to be an old lady.

My Rotti x, Tia (8yrs) turned from looking out the window and smacked the side of her face into the coffee table. She apparently yelped (I wasn't here at the time, my OH did all the panicking) and her bottom jaw was pushed to the left. OH wasn't sure what he should do but didn't really get to think about it cos Tia nudged it back into place herself. I can only assume it was dislocated, as I didn't see it. OH said it was very obviously dislocated and he heard it click but he can't remember if it was when she hit her face or put her face back together (!) I have felt all around her mouth and jaw and she doesn't seem to be in pain. (I haven't tried opening or closing her mouth though--but she ate some soft food--I mushed up some dog loaf and while she didn't gulp it down she lapped it up ok and is drinking water ok). Obviously I will have to go to the vet but this all happened after hours and because she isn't in any obvious pain, I haven't called in. Any experience with something like this? My poor girl, I think she is losing her eyesight, her hips have started giving way and now this.....

I was just reading up on this. I haven't tried it but came here just now to find out the same thing. I have been using front line and it doesn't work anymore... :D My poor doggy is itchy. Off to search for other ways to get rid of fleas, they are driving me nuts (and her no doubt).

Only one of my dogs will eat it. It stinks to high heaven, the pug, (who eats everything for those that don't know pugs) won't even put her nose near it. The staf will eat it but that is no suprise really. He'd eat crap if you served it to him. I think it is icky and smelly. 2 out of 3 dogs feel the same. But having said that, lots of dogs eat it. It doesn't follow with our doggy diet here anyway so it's not a biggy that mine don't like it. (I got it the other week when I was trying to entice a foster to have a feed. She hated it too.)

When I get home I will be lucky if Ollie even bothers to raise his head and aknowledge me! He's otherwise a pretty calm fella. If I am home all day, all he does is lay on his bed and sleep. He may move and sleep at my feet if I am on the computer. My girl Tia on the other hand is the one we have to do this exercise with! Thanks for your advice.

This is the first thing I tried with him as I use the water spray bottle on my Pug when she barks at flies flying out the front (just kidding-she barks when people walk past but once she starts barking she doesn't seem to stop.) But He is truly petrified of water. I don't mean a bit scared, I mean positively terrified. The upside to this is I only have to hold the water bottle and he freezes in his tracks, but I don't really want him being that scared of me!

yep! This is what I have done the last 2 times I went out. He seems to be fine. Thanks.

i do generally put things away or high in the kitchen. As I said, some of those things were my fault for leaving them out. But stealing my stuff off the kitchen bench is mad! Thank you.
-
Yes excellent suggestion. I have had them checked about 2 months ago. Might be worth another check. Thanks.

He doesn't do it when I am home. he is punishing me for going out. :D He is rarely left unsupervised. 9 hours scattered a week is the most no one is home. I have to leave him in the house, the yard isn't an option at this stage. Not when no one is home, it would stress me out! Thanks.

Uh,no, he puts his front paws up and climbs on the bench. He's a staffy afterall. I admit when I am in the wrong with leaving stuff laying about such as my thongs etc. Ollie has been here for a few months and I have always kept my bread etc on the bench with no worries. If I have left stuff on the bench (say a plate from dinner and go and chuck some washing on,) he will eat that which I can understand. But a loaf of bread? :D

I got one at a garage sale, I made the other 2. My lounge entry is big so I used the side railing piece of a cot. The other one was another piece of a cot, cut to size and hinged to the wall. I got so sick of putting the gates up and down that I made them little doors. :D

Ollie, who was surrendered for "eating everything", is a pain in the butt. I am having issues rehoming him because he is a complete and utter brat. Just over one year old, his original owners weren't kidding when they said he eats everything. But it has taken several months for this behaviour to really show. I mean he chewed all his toys and just about everything in the backyard. With the inclusion of the cubby house, the dog kennel, the decking, trees, plants and anything else that may have been out there. What he has done so far, I can cope with. He's a puppy. What I came home to on Monday was bad. Thursday made me want to cry! The dogs have their own area of the house, a room off the kitchen, all tiled with their own door out to the decking and yard. When I go to work, I leave the door closed because we live on a very busy road with an easily accessible side gate and I freak at the thought of someone letting them out. So Monday I come home (I worked for 3 hours only) to my thongs chewed, a plastic bottle, a plastic plate and he had eaten a whole packet of english muffins off the bench including most of the plastic. He is a shocker for climbing on the bench. Plastic stuff not a biggy and the thongs were my fault, I didn't put them away. But the muffins? ARGH! Thursday was worse.Took my son swimming and came home after an hour and a half and Ollie had a massive pile of stuff on his bed all chewed up. Dishes from off the sink, rubbish from the bin (my fault forgot to take it out with me) a loaf of bread from the bench, a tub of margarine (forgot to put away!), one of the kids special stuffed teddies from a higher shelf in the kitchen, a newspaper, my work shoe (still no idea how he got that, it was in another room) my son's paints off the easel, a bucket of chalk off the easel (which all sits in the kitchen) and plenty more stuff. Ok,so obviously, he's bored. But short of taking him to swimming with me, I don't know what I can do. Locking him is not an option when I'm not home. He is walked an hour an a half a day as well as a 25 minute run in the doggy park. We also do basic obedience training for 10- 15 minutes a day. I wondered if rescue remedy might be an idea. The last two times that I had to go out and no one was home I crated him. He seems quite ok with that (I thought he would scream-he's a sook). What can I do to help him stop being naughty? I worry that if I rehome him like this, even though his new owners would have to be aware of his issues that they wouldn't be patient with him.

Ok,so I'm dumb, but you give them the carcass as is?With all those little rib bones and everything?I know I sound dumb, but I haven't be brave enough to venture from wings and necks as far as chooks are concerned.
-
I sound dumb,I realise this, ;) but do you just give the dog the whole chicken carcass?I have never been able to find specific information on this and the idea of giving them to the dogs like that(whole) freaks me out! Is it safe?
