Dancing With Dogs Freestyle & Heelwork To Music
kallistar replied to kallistar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Well Hasting's DWD trial is just around the corner and I am looking forward to being there. Decided to go with an Abba song for freestyle and Que Sera Sera for HTM. And Tassie, I am not going to wear that skirt for it either. Tried a new move with Tux before (more for me than him) so might add it in. Fingers are crossed that we will do well but only time will tell. Has anyone else got any news? -

We had a great weekend, just home now :) Schatzi got a 100% success rate with 4 quallies out of 4 entries. She got two Novice HTM passes, both with 1st places! Then she also got two Novice Freestyle passes with a 3rd and a 4th. That gave her, her Novice Freestyle title! Up to Intermediate with the big kids now Tora did well, no passes for her, but entering her was about building her confidence and she was definitely more confident on the second day and only missed out on a quallie by one mark - so I was happy :) All in all, a great weekend away dancing :D CONGRATS on your lovely passes and wins in HTM, great news I reackon. And even more great news with your passes in Freestyle too. So glad that Tora gained more confidence on the second day and also for her almost getting a pass too :) -
YAHOO well done to both of you :)

but keep telling the feral one that it is for her own good and then she can do more things:) Looking at maybe getting a routine happening for my girl as she is improving her leg weaves and spins every time we try them. -

Hi MrsD, so glad that you popped in here to say hi :) and that your boy Jarrah gained his Intermediate freestyle title last year And yes please keep us informed on your new routines and how they are going :) Kamal isn't coming to Vic as far as I know, I think that I got distracted when I posted that part of my previous post. Tassie is going up to Camptailwaggers to see him :) -

Ness, with your Surfin' USA routine, do you think that she could do it? Or could you modify it to suit her ability? Do you still have the CD? -

That's us A friend is going to lend me some Sandra Davies DVD's so I can practice at home. I am teaching my girl to walk on her back legs ATM. The music I would like to dance to is Abba, especially Dancing Queen, but I can't imagine big old, large, me being dressed like Abba...maybe I could just dress the dog. For Abba's Dancing Queen, What about just a sparkling top that goes just pass your bottom (like a mini skirt effect), pin it so that doesn't flick into your kids' face? Along with pinstriped pants. A headband with a flower on it And there you have your costume. Can you enlighten me on who Sandra Davies is? See told you I am new into this. What exercises are you doing to help strenghten your dog's muscles so that she can walk safely on her hind quarters? Exercises for strengthening her back legs???? Nothing in particular, just rear end awareness exercises, daily swimming & agility...should I be doing something more specific ATM I only stand her for about 3 or 4 goes & for about 1 1/2 seconds each time, once a day. I was just wondering if there is anything special that you do to help strengthen her back and legs that might help all of us who tries this move. Rear end awareness is great as is swimming :) I must admit that the last comp that I did, I forgot to warm up/cool down Tux's muscles and we paid for it as he was a bit sore the next day. But a quick rub down and he was feeling a bit better by the end of the day . -

Tassie, The lace gloves are a pain as they caught on everything, and I can't find the partner of the long black satin glove that I have. And if you come back across the waters for the November comp, you might be just lucky to see it again. So think about it ok. -

Thanks Kallistar :) Our comp is at Camp Tailwaggers, looking forward to it :) Schatzi and I have been dancing for about two years now, but have only managed to get to two comps in that time. At our first we got our F/S Starters title, then our second we got out HTM Starters title. She also has one pass in Novice F/S. I'm hoping we can do a few more comps this year, unfortunately we live about 500km in any direction away from dancing comps so it takes a lot of travel to get to one. I'm doing three routines at the upcoming comp. Schatzi is doing Novice F/S to "Don't Hold Back" by the Potbelleez, Novice HTM to "Don't Rain on My Parade" from Glee and then Tora is doing Starters F/S to "You've Got the Love" by Florence + the Machine. My music choices can be a little left of centre, but I like it that way . The last time we did "Don't Hold Back" someone said "Why did you choose that song" and my reasoning was "I wanted something with a slight Spanish feel to it - without it being an obvious music choice". Hi Schatzi's Mum, Hope that you post your results here for all of us to read about when you do compete. At the moment I am stuck as the songs I would like to do, the costumes are not what I want to do right now. Like Sounds of Music's a few of my fave things, Somewhere over the rainbow ect. Has anyone got some costume suggestions for them that doesn't involve a skirt? I will keep on looking for the next week.. but time is running out as the entries for the next comp closes soon -

Thank you CleoJ. Shandy and you would of been the star attraction in the demo's :) Can you tell us what you are teaching in your beginners class? -
Well done on your UDX results today. Yes you are so lucky to have Sue H over there to help. I have all but given up hope of ever getting our UDX title due to his health. Keep up the good work too.
-
Congrats Bedazzledx2 on Brookie's achievement for the weekend.. Alss to Rubystar for her lovely results too
-
Congrats Ptolomy and your furkids on your wonderful results:) It was a super UDX round by the two of you and it would have been nice if the occasionally clever one hadn't failed distance control for the 7th trial in a row - still I was happy with his attitude. Really nice when the judge comments on the standard of work from the two boys and the handling skills of their owners - makes me feel all proud Brookie used to be known as the open king - think he can now add UD king to that title Moo is loving Rally and yesterday Beans also worked really well, just a pity her dufus owner missed a station otherwise she would have joined the boys on 99. STrauss also got his Rally novice title. Well done to Rubystar on her Rally Titles and I was very impressed with Ruby's work in UD - you are both doing a great job. Drinking were a lot of fun, can I book you again for 2 weeks time when we can play choose which puppy stays??

Hi Schatzi's Mum, Welcome and please post. If you have any brags, ideas, questions ask away as I am sure that the lovely people here will help you. I too, have only been in this sport for a short time as I started last year at the Melbourne Royal where I gained a pass in both Freestyle and HTM started. I had started another thread last year but the title only stated HTM, looking for music ideas, but decided that the topic didn't really include everything. Hence the new thread. What music are you dancing too? And where is your comp? Kallistar (Lyn and Tux) -

I'm sorry to say you can't use for finger to imitate shooting your dog you will be DQ and immediately asked to leave the ring. It simulates the use of a weapon rule 7.3(g) page 10 of the rule book. Thanks BC4ME, it is what I thought too, tried to tell someone that it wasn't allowed and they said it was ok. Have started to retrain Tux but he is struggling with the new word and action. Lucky you going to Camp Tailwaggers to see Steve Austin. He is just awesome to listen to. I have been lucky in the past to meet him at a couple of small private functions. And also to be going back to see Kamal and meeting Tassie too.. And what is this Famous Friday night Cabaret? Hope that you do perform :) And sorry to hear that you've had surgery but glad that it went well. -

Ok, MrsD what are you up to these days with DWD? And BC4ME? Anyone else? What does everyone think if you use your finger to "shoot your dog" Is it allowed? I taught Tux to play dead using fingers to shoot him as a youngster, but now want to use it in a routine for him to lay on his side. The only trouble is he really understands the fingers and nothing else. How do you teach paw wraps (around canes)? -

Hi Tassie, Be brave and just do it. You know the old saying if you're not in it, you can't win it (but in this case you can't dance it) And the surfing routine will go really well up there as it will be warm. Make sure that you video it and share it with us. Enjoy Camptailwaggers and Kamal. And good luck for all the other sports that you and your kids are doing:) Just make sure that you practise your DWD too so that you can knock the socks off the fellow dwd's up there. Have you noticed that I am encouraging you to do your routine while you are up there?
