48+hrs is that all? with new leathers sometimes it might take a week or more. Remember that they stink and it might be overpowering your scent. How is the rest of it coming along? And is he doing the full set of articles? I love teaching scent work and am currently training for UDX judges scent discrem... just got to find more people to help, specially those who smoke which is something that I have trouble with (no one close to me smokes)

Air them well.. leave them in all weather to air. Then play a small game of fetch.

OK, I'm going to be the dumb one here and ask what is probably an obvious answer but what does "lead out" mean? I can figure everything else out! And the SIT STAY and DOWN STAY are done as a group exercise! I bet that's interesting sometimes! At sometime during your heel work, the judge will command you to lead into a figure 8 where the steward and the judge will be standing like two posts (or if there is two steward, the judge doesn't have to be a "post") during the figure 8, you will get at least one halt.. then he will say forward and you continue going around in the fig.8 he will then say LEAD OUT where you will walk out of the figure 8 and continue on the test until the judges says halt, exercise finished and you are allowed to praise your dog. And yes the group exercise can be interesting and scary if the dog next to yours breaks...... lots of things can happen during stays so make sure that you proof your dog with lots of distractions and is happy.. Make sure that he gets a big reward away from the ring for a job well done

2009 Training/title Wish List
kallistar replied to Ptolomy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I know that I'd don't post often, but I thought that I'd add mine in too. For me it is simple... In 2009 I'm requesting from Trinket... In the heelwork, Just stick by my side no matter what I do. please do SFE all the time and not just when you feel like it. Please, wait in the one spot or come when called and not make me think that you are deaf and blind all at the same time (no offence to anyone who is) and last but not least make sure that you do all the required parts R.O.F and when you return with your dumb bell, do not spit it at me if you think that the judge is slow telling to take it... (you should see her look at me and I know when she shakes her head 3 times the spit going to happen) cause remember this I will get you to pick it up anyway... And last but not least to be consistant with your yearly pass rate towards your C.D title. And then I might stop calling you BubbleHead. We will also celebrate with a big pig out cause you will have acheive your title at the age of 9years Tux... To gain a pass in UDX... but more importantly to be enjoying your work, be happy, healthy As for me not to fall over or wobble in the ring. As for my others,,, Shamie to do the odd Veterans Class in Conformation and the oldies to enjoy life  -
Thought that I'd get in early DogDude and wish you good luck down for Portland's trials this weekend this weekend coming. Cheers

Well done to Ptolomy for all your wins of late. Stay on cloud nine, you deserve it. Congrats to prodigybxr on gaining your CDX title. And congrats to everyone else who has done well of late. Cheers

Well, since a few had mentioned this thread, I thought that I would go and find it. Now DogDude can testify that I was at Warrigal's trial with both Tux and Trinket. I was really happy with what we did in the am trial with Trinket, apart from her blowing her best exercise which is the recall. How dare she just sit there and pretend that she doesn't know how to come. And as for Tux, lets just say Heel, what does that mean Mum? ... oh you mean when the judges says right about turn, that I do it right there and then and not wait for you to even start to turn.... oops as I nearly trip you over. Dumbell my fave in Open, lets pretend that it is a footy and I have boof it around a couple of times. Yes we failed getting a pass card, but we still got third place. cheers

Ohh......will probably be in the same ring in Open! Will see you there. Lets hope the weather holds out. At least there will be no mud, although that side of the ground can get slushy. Thanks for the good luck too guys......may need it if it rains! Oscar is a bit of woose when its wet. And the rain can stay away while we are both in the ring, you for Oscar's sake and me cause I don't have windscreen wipers on my glasses LOL. Hi, It was good to meet you yesterday DogDude. Cheers -

Hi DogDude, Yeap I have entered both Open and UD with my boy. And novice with my CKCS. No, no daisies, Trinket can't find her dumbell in Daisies. And change of position she moves half a body length..to right in front of depending on her mood. So if you see me, say hi.... Cheers -

I have with both my boy and cav, but will have to remember to set my clock to Date light saving time as it starts on Sunday so that I don't sleep in. What class have you entered DD? -
Thank you DogDude.. It was a very cold windy day on Thursday at the Royal. Even though we bombed in UD, I am very proud of getting a pass in Open. And I know that BC was very happy with her pass as it gave her boy his novice title.. Well done BC and Coopper

I'm here, I'm here Kinta had her first Obedience trial today, and we almost considered staying in bed due to the inclement weather!!! The rain was not kind and wouldn't stay away (except when we were out of the ring!) I am pleased to announce that she gained her first pass in CCD - with a lovely score of 92, particularly considering the conditions :D. And for icing on the cake - it was topped off with a first place ;). Lots of passes today - I believe Goldieboy (?!) has a BIIIIIG pass to tell! I was also very pleased with Mr Leo's stint in the ring... he scored really well.... until he forgot what stand meant and that drop on a DOR means drop, not come to me *sigh*! Congratulations to you and Kinta on your first pass in CCD. What a lovely score too. Leo must of taken some lessons off Tux for DOR, cause that is what he did at Croydon's trial... I missed out on being there today due to having the flu... Not a happy camper

How To Teach Some Sort Of Road Sense?
kallistar replied to pennyw74's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Cavaliers haven't got good road sense, so the only thing to do when you are out is to keep her on a lead regardless of where you are visiting. Home is different as you know all the spots that she can escape from. Better to be safe than sorry. I have a cavalier and am speaking from experience.... she doesn't like to toilet on lead, but her safety is more important to me than her feelings. -
Croydon & District Obedience Dog Club
kallistar replied to leopuppy04's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi LP.. Yes I should be there on Sunday as long as I remember to pack a dog... and the right equipment ( I can't remember what class I entered Tux in) as I am staying at a friends house and have to work out how to get there from Brighton as well as how long the trip would take. Well done on the entry numbers. C U there Kallistar -
While I am keen to get started training, at the moment I have something else to contend with. Plus I have to learn how to control the voice box a bit better so that I don't sqeak or shout my commands nerves ........................... This is only one example of what happened that day. One of the oldest sayings in obedience is that you have to have a sense of humour as you never know what is around the corner.

I love it how you have Tux answering you when you are asked "Are you ready"! he is such an exuberant, happy worker!!! Hows UDX coming ;) UDX??? Hey we have only just gained our OC. title. UDX is a great class to judge though, as I have judged it at a members comp that wasn't taken too seriously as all the dogs that was in it was just learning. It is just as well I couldn't lose any points for laughing at some of the stuff that one of the competitors did to encourage her dog to go to the prescribed area ( sendaway/recall exercise). I told the lady to go out and show her dog where it was, she walks out and did a beautiful run out to the box and about turn with a wiggle of the bum to sit down exactly how her dog does her sits. Her dog still didn't go out to the prescribed area.

Please tell us about some Kallistar ?? Yeah - make me feel better about having a uh... disobedient Aussie ;) Like trying leaving the ring in the middle of a figure 8...... handler that is. Spirit leaving the trial ring to go and get her treats in between exercises. Tux being told by judge to pipe down, he sat for two seconds and thought for a minute and then said WOOF WOOF WOOF ( No I won't) had the handler and judge in stitches and then continued on woofing out to the mat. Same dog answering judges for me when asked, are you ready before I even have a chance to say YES. the list goes on....

Leo is just showing what a clever boy he is... Never mind Leo, your Mum still loves you even if she offers to sell you on ebay. I have way too many tales to tell about stuff ups that both dogs and I have done in the ring over the years.

They don't have a special club rooms.. Look at the website though as they have an intro into Tracking weekend in April. From what I have heard in the past, a weekend well worth going to
