  1. Glad that the wood worked better for you for the SB with decoy.
  2. Know that feeling well. The way that this exercise is done here is that you send your dog to the cones, judge orders forward and at the 15meter mark either tells you to call your dog or about turn and call. Only when the dog is with you, you then do the tiny bit of heel work with the right or left turn and halt. When I started UDX it was still at the 15 meter mark. He was getting really good at it, then I had to teach him to look for them at the 12 meter and boy did that confuse the issue. I have a resonable success with them as long as I don't move my arm or hand as I cannot for the life of me make it stay in a straight line to send him out.
  3. The reason that I am thinking of changing it is because I am a sook in winter and the metal is cold The other reason is because Tux every so often does the snatch and grab which is great for UD but not UDX . I think that the wood holds the scent longer ???? Sorry to hear of your problems too Xena98 and Ptolomy. It is hard to know what to do at times. How I taught it was like the SD in UD and gradually moved them further apart. In training now, I go back to having them close together so he has to find both of them (and so I know for sure which one is the wrong one as I never accept a wrong article where ever possible) If he picks up the wrong article, I point back out, he then goes and find the correct article and brings it in and we have a big party. Hope that this makes sense.
  4. Well done Nik on gaining your CCD title.. And also to LP on your lovely Open round score in the pm trial. Congrats to everyone who did really well in their chosen sports over this weekend
  5. Well no brag for my UDX title.. we didn't do the down in motion. And that was all we did wrong in the morning trial.. And we aren't going even mention the pm trial as it was far worse. Ok.. now a training question for UDX, What are you using for your seek back with decoy and why? And how did you teach it? I am using metal at the moment but am thinking of changing to wood.
  6. It is an interesting problem as I can use my voice in training (no stress) and we do the sit in motion fine but when trialing I get a very dry mouth and the word doesn't come out properly. All my other commands are signal only.. So please keep your fingers crossed that tomorrow I don't choke on the verbal sit in motion command.
  7. Sorry I just read my question again... and thanks for your answer Bedazzledx2. He does the sit in motion verbally great until I choke on the word and he gets confused (sp?) so how would you do a sit in motion hand signal?
  8. Boy do I know that feeling PIM I do silent signals and verbals for the position and the towels I dont give alot of scent as soon as she turns her head that is it But how did you teach the PIM? For the PIM I use signals for all but the Sit in Motion which is the only position that I use my voice for. However I am choking on my Sit command when we compete which is not fun. And when I was teaching him, it was done with voice and signal and we was doing this as a fun thing before the UDX class was ever thought about. So all as I did was reteach it with me going pass him on his right side and not around the back of him like we was doing. So how would you teach a sit in motion signal/command?
  9. Totally agree with you on this one Bedazzledx2. Ptolomy, I will brag about the UDX title when Tux and I get it. On a training note, how did you teach your dogs PIM and do you use verbal or signal? How would you teach a sit signal for the PIM?
  10. Thanks Ptolomy. I have never overscented him with the cloth that I have offered him. He turns his head away if I do. So far the shapes that we have had to work in the trial ring are, straight line,Triangle, square, circle, a T, and a C. I try to do all sorts of patterns with it when I am training too. So far if one is placed in the middle he has found it Also the frustrating thing about UDX is that just when everything is going right it breaks down again I have to get just one more pass and I will be over the moon as it will be his title hopefully before the year is out. And when I do Can I brag about it?
  11. question for you all doing UDX, Has any of you had the wind swirling around the clothes and carry the scent of the judges clothes on to the next one to it? And how have you trained your dog to understand that it has got the "wrong clothe" to getting the right one? Also do you train with your clothes in the same pattern all the time eg a straight line, square, circle ect? Hopefully I won't kill this thread this time
  12. Gees people thought the world was coming to an end the night I passed, or that I had won lotto - I was one very happy camper..........and its all been downhill ever since I guess if you add Lara's 1 pass and Scoota's 1 pass - next pass will be my title ;) Boy do I know that feeling. For Tux and I, two down one to go...
  13. White leathers for the MR doesn't always help. Tux thought that a whitish leaf was the leather as it was in the line that he was taking, so he went to get it unfortunaly the wind made it move and then he just didn't remember what he was suppose to be getting.
  14. Yes UDX is more frustrating than UD, but I love the challenge of it too. I can't tell you how many times I was close to a pass only to blow it by one little thing. So I know what you are going through Bedazzledx2 and Ptolomy.
  15. I am so pleased that Albury KC got Sue over as I have stated in a previous post I've always wanted to see her. She is fantastic. Learnt heaps too and my only wish is that it was for a week not just a weekend. Lovely to meet you too m-j and TSD
  16. Not long now, counting down the hours till we get to Albury.. One question though, can we do any videos? And I am sure that Sue needs to visit Melbourne for a couple of months, just so that we get to learn heaps more from her.
  17. My dogs are crate trained The Cav seeks out any crate to sleep in.. The two older aussies do seek out the crates to snooze in on their own accord. I even caught Tux going into the Cav's PP40 crate due to Trinket being in his. The Goldie is the only one who does not seek out her crate, but is happy to be in there once requested to do so. The youngest aussie is learning the ropes and is learning that Crates are ok
  18. I'm going Am so looking forward to learning alot from SH as I have waited for so long for her to be close enough for me to attend her workshops
  19. Bacchus Marsh trains on a Tuesday night for obedience and Thursday night for Agility... I just can't remember the starting times. Also as mentioned Werribee is very good too.
  20. For the texture to change that much you can only guess how much the product had to change for it to be so noticeable. Not only does it contain so much linseed that it coats the poo in such a way it looks to have been rolled in linseed the smell has also changed. I do not trust VIP pet foods and could not continue to buy Dr B's Barf. My dogs did not like the new Dr B's Barf and they were itchy - putting that down to the excess amount of linseed because they never had a problem with it before. I was a distributor of Dr B's Barf for several years and this decision was not taken lightly but was necessary. Not only were my dogs not happy with the change but customers who had been purchasing it from me for many yrs were also not enjoying it either. I told some how to make it themselves when supplies were difficult and to feed holistic dry food - or wait. Those who waited have been much happier with the change over to Big Dog and so are we. Just a question for you guys down here in Vic Where do you get the Big Dog patties from. I live in the western Sub of Melb and would like to try some. Thanks Call Big Dog Pet Foods - http://www.bigdogpetfoods.com/ and they will put you on to your local distributor. thank you
