  1. This is a hard one as you do not want to kill her confidence. But a few things come to mind to ask you. Is a mat that you send her to? Do you use an exciting voice to encourage her to go out? Are you too close/far away from the pile? Have you used the tie down method (sp?) to see if that helps? And what have you done to help her understand the exercise? I would start all over again, but use only a hand signal if it my voice that was making her too excited..... Standing in close so that there is no speed build up but where you can build up the confidence is good. Baby steps backwards till you get to the 5mtres. Others will have some ideas too.. Yeah I'm struggling with what to do to fix it without killing the exercise! I taught it using the dogscouts method and it's really just an excitement thing as once she grabs the first article and realises that it's not right she spits it out and starts using her nose to find the right one. I don't use a hand signal as she's super reactive to my body movements and I use a very very very calm voice command to send her to the articles. They are not on a mat, I work her on the ground. I like the suggestion about shortening the distance to the articles, I'll give it a try tonight and see if it makes any difference. She very rarely brings the wrong article back but I'm trying to eliminate all the random things we lose points for! 2 points off for grabbing the wrong article because she's excited is bugging me! This is not the only thing we're tidying up, she's completely over the top for alot of a trial and I'm trying to keep the excitement but get it under a bit more control so we stop losing copious amounts of points! What happens if you only have three articles out on the ground? Does she still snatch the first one that she comes across? Have you done them in the dark? Have you tried what Caffy has suggested? Did you try shortening the distance and what happened? Please let us know what is happening

  3. I spread toys all over the ring last week and did a UDX round. I have also started sending to the cones from not straight in front. Cider is in open and is yet to get a pass, but I will start her on seekback using 2 one that smells like me and a decoy from the word go. This week I have introduced her to stand on a verbal and a signal - lets just say....we have a long way to go with that. I have also started throwing the leathers out and then giving her direction and she loves this game and is taking a very straight line. and I wil do some more about teaching her to sit on a mat for cones. Good idea to get them started early VBG
  4. That's right. A pass is a pass and any pass with someone elses dog that I have only been training for 5 weeks now is great. Mum is a happy camper. Well word gets around about that doesn't it!! I haven't found a toy for her yet. She hasn't asked for one yet anyway!!! lol And so it should. You did a wonderful job with Shelby and I am glad that I was there to see your effort, even though you was a bit green behind the hide. So has Shelby got her thousand dollar toy yet? And did she get steak for her dinner last night?
  5. That is good that your training is going well and of course fingers will be crossed for Bedazzled. Xena ..Fingers crossed that this cough and squeaky voice leaves me before I go to Albury for the weekend trial. So what sort of things are you doing to proof UDX? And if you asked by someone who was thinking of doing UDX, what exercise would you suggest that they start teaching their dog and what method? And why?
  6. So now that I have killed this thread once again, I thought that I would try to erect it again I was pleased with Tux yesterday in the Am trial as we only missed the PIM.. my voice gave out again (( and he doesn't understand Si. The pm trial was a distaster for us. So now we are back to the drawing board. Did anyone else trial over the weekend?
  7. Fingers are crossed for you no matter when you trial next.
  8. Sorry that the Cloth fairy that I sent to you didn't arrive.. maybe she had a coughing fit just like me ROFLOL. Seriously though buggar for both the scent exercises but at least you got some exercises ok.. Fingers are crossed for the next trial that you do
  9. Any results? Did the cloth fairies shine you Xema98
  10. I will send another cloth fairy for you too Xena98 that way you will have two fairy's working for you Good luck for tomorrow's trial
  11. buggar for you Ptolomy.. We got 27/30 SB with Decoy 29/40 PIM as we copped a sub for a missed down. Well the clothe fairy shone brightly for me :)30/30 Sendaway recall 30/30.. And the take up position wasn't in line with the cone, so I was very pleased that he did them as he turns right handed into the prescribed area Stupid handler flicked a down position in the DC and that was end of that. MR he was on auto pilot ( very happy boy) and went and got the wrong one. and of course 10 for the GE. In all I am happy as he worked with alot of enthusiaum (Sp?) and enjoyed his time in the ring. I agree with you both there. Oh well another two weeks before we trial again.

  13. Oh ok I forgot that the Nationals was on in Brissy.. Good luck for today Thanks and yes I too hope that the clothes fairy will look after me. If that is the only thing that we do right today I will be very pleased. Head is very stuffy this morning. But I promised someone that I would be there today..
  14. Yes Ness it is suppose to be a straight sendaway but if the cones are set on an angle (across the ring on a diangle sp? head is fuzzy with cold so can't spell at all this morning) it looks different to the dog and handler. The prescribed area can be anywhere that the judges choose to put. In UD the prescribed area is always in the same spot, with the only difference with the distances that it is set out..... min to max distance.
  15. Hey what are you doing in Qld? Sticky beak aren't I ? Bummer for you and Scooter, but good luck for tomorrow. As for the marker I know what you mean as I have had that happen to me too. I try to teach Tux to go to the prescribed area on all sorts of angles. But today at training he decided that I didn't mean it and stopped short of the cones. His best exercise was the clothes and now it is broken The only exercises that we did well in training was the SB with decoy, PIM and DC, all the rest is broken. If I do go tomorrow, I will have every thing crossed that we get the clothes ok. The rest I can do without any major help.
  16. Who is trialing over this weekend in UDX? I know that I am, but I have a broken dog. So it will be an interesting trial tomorrow. Who knows the old saying bad dress rehearsal, great opening preformance might come true.
  17. Well done Brookie and you YAY only one more to go for his title and then on to Gr Obed Ch
  18. buggar.... but glad that he hung in there for you :)Glad that the rest went well :). Did you do the MR? and how did you go with it?
  19. Ness, they better not stop texting you with the results, how else can we get them to come out of the woodwork?
  20. Any news??? Ness has dobbed you in Bedazzled come on out with it.. My seek back with decoy fell apart today . Didn't do anything else (please don't let me kill this thread again)
  21. Good luck ladies. There is no Obed trials in Vic this weekend, so I will be thinking of you all competeting on the weekend. Did some more light training with Tux today with just the send away and DC which both was brillant.
  22. Not me Are you? Had an excellent session with Tux on Monday. Today just did the SB with decoy. Changed to wood and after the first snatch and grab, did another one and it was perfect..
  23. Yee Har - can you hear the Champaign Corks popping in WA??? The boys have obviously been busy chatting about it/texting and they both came out and put in terrific rounds. I am a happy little vegemite. 2 down 1 to go...... CONGRATULATIONS to you both.. I am so happy for you
  24. I can't wait to hear.. And I do know of a few Gr Ch (O) that are around.. which is just awesome. Last weekend my friend got a UDX pass, but it wasn't enough for the Gr Ch(O)pass
  25. Is anyone trialing in UDX this weekend? If so good luck. Also has anyone done UDX indoors on concrete flooring and what did you think about it especially with the SB with decoy? And what other problems did you run into?
