  1. ahh but you have experience on your side and I don't And Harry Potter???? If you was going to use a John Farnham number what would you use??
  2. Thanks Ness.. Yes Tux has done rear end awareness. I can spin in the middle of him while he is spinning around me. But it backfires on me sometime in the trial ring as he has been known to circle me on a finish ( very cute and I try not to laugh when he does it) So I could do a sendaway recall.. spin right/left, backing up and side step ( if he is in the mood). I would of loved to of done a waltz with him but can't find the right song. Thought of Singing in the rain, but he bites the umbrella trying to retrieve it. So you can see I am stuck.. The good thing is the ring size is 15 x 15. I have the weekend to come up with a song that we can do
  3. Sorry I must of missed your post.. CONGRATULATIONS on getting your OC title ))
  4. Hi Ness, is it possible to get a routine together in just 3 weeks and have it down pat????? What sort of things would you need to do?? Music? The entry for the Melb. Royal closes next Thursday hence why I am asking. I now know what I am going to do for HTM )) Just got to teach Tux that he can work on my right side too, all this in just three weeks due to me going away on hols next week. Another question for you all, in HTM are you allowed to take a target stick in for a routine? I did start today using my "baton" which worked ok apart from Tux mouthing and biting (he loves to retrieve stuff)
  5. thank you very much for your suggestions BC4ME I will be trying my luck with my Aussie and fingers will be crossed that we remember the small routine on the day as we both can have senior moments. I would love to have a stab at Freestyle, but I don't think that three weeks is long enough for me to get a routine down pat as of yet. thanks again.
  6. Hi everyone, Now as the topic suggests I am in need of ideas for some music for an older dog so that we can do Heelwork to music. I am thinking that a slow to medium beat would suit both my dog and myself. This is for starters as I would love to try this for the Melbourne Royal.. Can anyone suggest some songs? I must admit that I do like John Farnham and was thinikng about Burn for you Thanks
  7. YAY lovely to hear, keep up the good work. Just remember Baby steps.. How is it all going Seita?
  8. Well the UDX fairy must have a mean streak in her as she hasn't shown up for me. This morning was not good at all as I couldn't get the SB,PIM or JSD and with the cones, he flew out so fast, went through the cones and then just sat outside the back of them. He might of had a toenail in, but who knows from 25mtre away. Did the DC ok and got only one leather really nicely. We then went and played in open and he just loved it too much. Pity that this handler forgot that in open that you could use voice and signal, otherwise we would of come home with a pass. Back to the UDX drawing board we go..
  9. I thought I could smell an Aussie brain frying It will all be worth it in the end :D not fun smelling aussie brain frying.... and please do not try this.. Yesterday I decided that I would practise the MR in my front yard. All was going well until I threw the leather and it landed in the weeds. Now I went to retrieve it my self and guess who lost it in the weeds and had to get Tux to do a search for it. Lucky he found it by his nose not by direction.. Clever boy. So now we are back to the drawing board.. till Sunday that is
  10. Bedazzledx2, what has the Guru suggested to you? Would you care to share with us? I have been baiting the leather that I want him to get.. And what sort of proofing are you doing? And to clarify it was only the one leather that we missed out on, so fingers are crossed that we will get there by the end of the year )
  11. Well, I got 178nq yesterday in UDX.. missed out to getting a lovely pass due to the MR exercise I didn't get my individual scores as the sheet was whipped away due to the wind and rain. I am very happy with my boy as I working towards getting the MR back to a more consistant exercise. Not easy to do after stuffing it up big time. Xena, you will get there, they say that UD is character building, well I wonder what we could say about UDX.. Character builing Excellent? And congrats on Inka winning Open
  12. How long can he maitain a straight sit for? Can you get him to do a straight sit along side you and a wall? This will help teach muscle memory.. and you could try and get him to do this for his dinner.. Just a thought
  13. YAY lovely to hear, keep up the good work. Just remember Baby steps..
  14. And after rereading your question Wuffles, Can you please tell us what Ava does in the insight stays? Have you taught her to be calm in stays? Does she paddle her feet, ect? Why do you think that she is a sticky beak and what have you done to ease her from being clingy to you? It is only when you have a solid in sight stay that you should even try to walk around a tree or an obstacle (cars and people are good) to be out of her sight for a second. Remember to break it down into small baby steps that she can be successful every time. And when she is comfortable with a second, then progress to a longer time. Hope that this makes sense Remember the three D's (Duration, Distraction and Distance)

  16. Taught Tux not to touch the marker on the ground.. doesn't help though when there isn't any. Judge used the ring post as his marker. We also have pegs on the rope as markers too. How I taught this old dog new tricks for the down was to put the food on the ground in between his legs and then walk out to the required distance and give him the down signal and he would fold backward into the down position. That worked well until he started to self rewarding all the time I was walking away from him. I use the step and a barrier. Even tried the boot of the station wagon.
  17. Drink more wine!!!! :D Change of position I practice on a step or in front of a barrier to prevent the creep forward. lol I don't drink wine.... not even good with champers and orange juice which we had one morning at our training to celebrate birthdays. He is good on a step and in front of a barrier, but knows that they are not in the trial ring.
  18. Just dropped in to say that the UDX fairy deserted me on the weekend too. Though Sunday was better than Sat. The only thing that I brought home with me was a nasty cold Sorry to hear that there was no UDX passes in WA but great news on the Open passes and lovely scores. ) Cheers OK tell us the gorey details - what exercises did you muff? Saturday..... SB with Decoy 0 PIM 0 J.S.D passed with flying colours ( cloth fairy showed up briefly) S.R Perfect. DC great, but he crept forward. MR Went out and got the wrong one, and on the last one, got the right one but antipated the finish ( clever boy) Tux was very flat going through the ring and then on the Group Exam moved 2 feet. Sunday.. SB with Decoy 29/30 PIM 0 (he didn't hear the t in Sit as my voice choked up again) JSD 30/30 S.R 0 didn't go out to the cones.. lol he went to where they was the day before. DC 0 as I called it off half way as he had crept too far forward and after doing it twice in the one weekend I don't want it to become a habit. and MR 14/13 and GE 10/10 Got any advice?

  20. Less is more.. Is what I have been told by an old trialer who does tracking, the less that the arcticles are held the better the dogs get the right article. Tux is a good example of that. When I offer him the scented article for him to find, he turns his head away from me especially if I hold it there way too long for him. He then sneezes to clear his sinuses. Unfortunatly some stewards handle the clothes too much as Bedazzled has found out and the dogs pick that cloth up instead (( as the judges scented clothe has already slightly aired. Oh and on a training issue, How do I explain to Tux NOT TO scatter the clothes when he goes out to them as it makes harder for him to find the right one and that it is a very untidy thing to do? Also fingers crossed that the UDX fairy is with us this weekend
  21. You might need to go to a park and do all of this again, until she is using her nose right from the word go. And remember BABY Steps all the way. Even though you have moved out to the full distance again, I would still go back in close until she is doing them all with out snatch and grab at least 40 times.. ( and that is not all in one day) I'll take it on the road next week. We're stuck at home at the moment because she's in season! Please let us know what happens when you take it on the road
