Hi Bridgie, I was using sump oil and cement on Lucy's ears whilst she was teething i have now gone to using glycerine and powder I have found this is working far better than the sump oil. I do agree shelties do look far better with their ears tipped. Lucy is now nearly 7 months old and I still apply glycerine and powder to her ears at least once a week. Good luck and let us know how you get on

Puggles, I would be very interested in hearing th results of the trial? I too had an epileptic whom I had PTS in Jan 06 due to complications from brain surgery that was ment to help fix her epilepsy. Would be very interested if you could keep us updated Cheerrs Trace -
I agree we have had some really tiny shelties fully grown 11 inches. I also know of some that have been bred small like this have produced some dogs that have all made it to perfect size and some have gone big. I'm crossing fingers that my Lucy will make it to size and not go over she's 5 months and 13 inches.. but if she doesnt it make it for confirmation well then it's of to obedience and agility for her

The standard for Shelties are : Males 14 1/2 inches at withers and Female : 14inches to 14 1/2 Anything above 2.5cm is highly undesirable. Hope this is of some help. Some puppies look really good and then they will go thru a growth spurt. Do you know what size the parents are?

Personally I would be taking your dog to the vet straight away it may be easter but think of your poor baby. If this was your child you'd be straight down the hospital right???? For the health of your doggy and peace of mind for yourself please don't let this go on till tuesday or may very well be planning a funeral instead -
Daily Heartworming Tablets
Owned by Shelties replied to Owned by Shelties's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am still using the daily heartworming tablets from safeway.. I know that the vets try to get you sucked in and scared so you will make more money for them. But as we have never had any problems yet fingers crossed I will continue to use. Thanx for all your replies -

Owned by Shelties replied to sheltiesrule's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi SR if it's a really really hot day I wash and towel dry my dogs and let the sun do the rest.. I do usually dry them with the blow dryer and Hair dryer for Lucy for days 24 degrees and under, this is only to makesure that the coat is fully dry so no hot spots can form.. makesure you dry really well behind ears and under his arm pits... Good Luck PS Any more updated pictures??? would love to see -
Daily Heartworming Tablets

I have been using these brands for years now and so has mum... never had any problems maybe the vet was trying to scare me by telling me about the animals that they had recently come into the vet and supposedly being poisioned from these brands. I know that vets try and sway you to buy their products I'm not that dumb I was just concerned about what she told me and did wonder if it was a load of bull. I guess if nobodyy else is having problems it should be ok? -
Hi while at the vets yesterday with my lucy vet advised me not to use daily heartworming tablets that you get from shop eg: Friskies or Excelpet she says that it is slowly poisioning dogs?????? She also told me not to use same brands in Flea treatment as they have not been tsted on animals? does anybody else know about this? I don't want to put my shelties on monthly heartworm but getting the daily ones from the vet works out expensive.. Please any advice thankyou in advance

Bathing My Sheltie
Owned by Shelties replied to sheltiesrule's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi SR I bath my 3 shelties any where between 3-5 weeks, had to bath Lucy today due to her having an allergy reactin to fleas.. special soap Tell tale signs for me are if they start to smell really doggy then they'll have a good bath.... -
Hi sheltiesrule, I just measured Lucy and she's 13 1/2 inches which is about the norman.. Kasper may have a growth spurt and grow a couple more inches. How did you go with his eyelashes? Females usually finish growing before males so no need to worry just yet. It would be more of a concern if you are going to show Kasper

I have to agree with cowanbree I am not a breeder but have owned shelties all my life so I think I know what is best for them. I would rather pluck them out myself, knowing if I paid the money for the operation the eyelashes can and will come back... So i would suggest if you can see them do it yourself if you dont feel comfortable just take your dog to the vet and they will do it for you.
-
Hi Sheltiesrule if you would like me to come and do this for u I will? there is no guarrentee that the eyelash won't come back I do know of a couple of shelties that have had operation and eyelashes have come back. I would personally tend to this now rather than leave it.
-
Hi If you like I can come and do this for you?I come up your way for work just pm and let me know... I have had to pluck eye lashes heaps of times they are very fine but if left they can cause more problems best to get on this straight away. Good luck
