Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia
Owned by Shelties replied to mita's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
He hasn't been pts yet but it will be this week coming. It's so hard to make that final decision but looking at him it's like he's telling us this is what he wants. He was such a happy go lucky boy and to see him like this it's sooo sad. I know it hurts us now and I know it's killing mum to have to take him down to the vet but I'm going to suggest that the vet come to home so pepsi will have us all with him -

Hi, well it's a sad day today for us we have made the decision to have our little man pts (Pepsi) he hasn't recovered from this last attack from this bloody disease, he's not really wanting to eat, walk, play etc he's sooooo it's really tearing us up inside to make the decision but he will be cremated and his ashes taken back home to mum and dad. Pepsi would have been 11yrs young this year -

Not looking good for our Pepsi he's been not well lately, his blood count has gone back done and he's really lethagic. Vet has told us maybe with the change in his diet might have something to do with it?? but also apparently when this disease htis the second time around it doesn't look good  We are facing that decision do we pts now or wait for a little while longer to see if he picks up? It's so sad he's such a lovely boy and we would miss him dearly when the time comes we have already decided that he will be cremated so he can come with us where ever we may go  I will keep updates please send some good prayers this way for our Pepsi -

It's been awhile since my last update Pepsi is home now and is doing really well his blood count is up to 30 which vet said is good. He's had to come of his daily heartworm vet said he should come of all tablets that he doesn't really need . He has to have blood tests done every 14 day for a few months to keep any eye on his count and make sure it don't fall. Anyways just thought I'd update hope any body else who's pooch has this problem gets medical attention right away and hope all goes well were just hoping that it won't come back for the 3rd time -

Our Pepsi has come home now he's had to stay inside and kept quiet for the first week and we have noticed that every day since beingon meds he's soo much brighter and happier in himself. The colour of his gums is slowly coming back even though he's still walking like and old man we are so glad he's gedtting better. He's of to the vets tomorrow for another blood count so will update tomorrow. Thankyou everybody for your thoughts. His sleeping buddy Jade has been missing him so much that when he goes out for wee's she runs straight up to him gives him kisses, they look so happy together it's really sweet as they are really inseperable.. -

Hi Pepsi's update vet says he's doing O.K his blood is 21 so couple less than yesterday but better than what he went in with (14), he has eaten dinner and has been to toilet. Mum asked about medication and vet said yes he will go onto meds for the rest of his life fingers crossed it's a long one and this thing doesn't come back. Vet couldn't explain y they never gave him meds back in 2001 as we wondering if he was on the meds back then if we would be going thru this with him now?? will update tomorrow they are taking blood again in the morning I don't finish work till around 7.30pm so will update then. Thankyou ALL so much for your prayers and wishes.. -

Hi just had call from vet his blood count has come up to 23 from 14 he has eaten dinner and is on a fluid drip, they will take more blood tomorrow morning and afternoon. Mum has asked them y he wasn't on medication for this when he first had it in 2001 vet didn't explain y they didn't do it. I will be making sure along with mum that he doesn't leave unless he's on medication. Prayers are going his way tonight for a safe and uneventful night. -

Our shetland sheepdog has just been rushed to the vet with the same thing. He had this back in 2001 and after many blood transfusions he has been great until this morning. Dad went to let all dogs out and Pepsi just stood up the back of the yard looking like no body was home so mum had a feeling that the disease has come back and yep she was right. His blood count back in 2001 was 18 blood count this morning was 14 the vets doesn't hold much hope we have got bloods coming down from werribee.. Please we could really use some prayers right now. -
Benshiva, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I know where your coming from.. take comfort in knowing "Comet" is pain free now

My Dog Just Had A Fit Or Seizure
Owned by Shelties replied to SueM's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi varicool, That video made me feel Ill sorry you have to go thru that I really hope Harvey is O.K? my angel annie had epilepsy but her seizures were very different to Harvey's. Fingers crossed the meds work for you. I have since had my Angel Annie pts due to her having a stroke after having brain surgery to hopefully fix her having seizures, I really think if it weren't for the stroke she'd be here today and "S" free. Annie was on a highish dose and I didn't like the puppy she became (doopy,Lethargic etc) Good luck you will find a wealth of knowledge on. My prayers are with you and harvey.. -

How Much Does Your Dog Eat?
Owned by Shelties replied to Kirty's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
my 10yr old sheltie gets 1- 2 chicken wings plus 1/2 cup dry biscuits per day and one chicken carcus per week (she's a fatty) my 6yr old sheltie gets 1-2 chicken wings plus hand full biscuits and one chicken carcus per week (he's a little fatty) my 11 month old sheltie get 3 chicken wings 1 cup biscuits and one carcus per week. I do vary between chicken wings or necks but the 10 yr old seem to just swallow so I rarely give necks. They also have marrow bones (weekly) and a baked super coat bone to go to bed with each night. When my partner feeds them he gives them each two slice of V.I.P Lamb and Chicken plus hand full of biscuits, then they bark at me when I get home as if to say they haven't been fed hahaha.. the also love carrot so they get carrot couple times a week. -
