"dogs been throwing up for a few days now" are you kidding....and you didn't take it to the vet - you are a very lucky person that those dogs were okay... because i don't know if you have realised it yet but 3 days of vomitting doesn't mean healthy dog... it means sick dog

heheh oh hmmm have to remember "scurf" hahah aloveen conditioner smells unreal and does give a good shine to the coat but if i use it too often on my staffies or if i use too much it actually has caused a bit of dandruff.. on my black staffy i don't use it at all because it gives him dandruff regardless, i think it might be because of the coconut oil in it?? NOTE - the shampoo is unreal and on dogs with long hair the conditioner is too So if u are using it to help the dandruff it will probably be no good. But the people who make aloveen - Dermcare - have a big range of products so maybe you can check out their website - www.dermcare.com.au Good luck
-
I feel left out - i don't know what "scurf" is????? If it is just dirt and smell etc - aloveen have a leave in conditioner that smells lovely.. but if you are talkign dandriff then don't use it cause it will add to the problem..

roz how old is she? could it be late onset epilepsy? thyroid problems can cause seizures aswell or lead poisoning? gee i hope she pulls through !
-
.... and you know that you are missed greatly by the staffy clan aswell, Annie. Especially by your epi pal who i know will benefit one day from your courageous help in unlocking the mystery of epilepsy. Run free Annie and be sure to watch over my fatso for me :D

Start slowly so he doesn't get scared. Start my just moving his basket close to you - and then you can pat him and interact with him while he is still in the safety of his blanky. Then sit next to his basket and take him out and play with him on the floor or in your lap on the floor. try using a treat or something that might make him come out of his basket a bit more willingly..... make sure you make all those interactions enjoyable and safe for him Also if he is cold i would suggest a little jumper for him. also - lots of dogs don't like to be carried around the house - if you want to pick pup up i suggest you do it whilst you are still.. either sitting on the lounge or floor till he gets used to it all. They are so cute that you just can't help but cuddle them can you hehehheeh but if you start slowly he will eventually come to the party because if he is a typical staffy he soon will want to be with you every place you go Good luck !!! and send photos soon heheh

Puppy Having A Diahrroea From...
Staffy-Lover replied to Jacquel83's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
when i first got my russian blue cat i changed its diet as i knew no better - $1500 later the vet told me that babies pups and cats can become seriously ill from a rapid change in food. I suggest you go back to mixing the old food and the new food and slowly changing it over. and a vet visit definately... -
Hi Roz, Just for future reference... There is an emergency out of hour vet at Baulkham Hills NSW. I know it is not near you but i think if you called with an emergency question they would be fine with answering it for you.
-
my staffy girl used to get car sick when she was younger, but not any more.. so yep puppy can grow out of it..
-
i wouldn't use it as it has way too high salt and fat levels... try eating a handful yourself and feel the heartburn  if you are only going to use a little bit it may be okay, but if you have a choice i would try something else. You can always make homemade treats.
-
porridge in the morning with puppy milk - if he won't eat it, try mixing some doggy biscuits in with it or warming it up meat (your choice), sweet potato (boiled and mashed) but not every night try mixing it with brocolli and other greens), and a good biscuit (can try one for active dogs as they have more calories, or try a puppy one that is atleast high in calcium etc) - for dinner Don't overfeed as this just causes poop without the dog being able to digest the nutrition from the food and overloads the kidneys etc. And little snacks of healthy treats here and there.

Desperately Need Advice!
Staffy-Lover replied to Bosshog_Boo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
let us know how it all goes - i have my fingers crossed for you. PS - if it turns out to be epilepsy there are a few people on dol (including me) who have epi dogs who are here for your emotional support - as you know it can be very draining and you sometimes just need someone who understands what you are going through to lend an ear. My fingers and toes are crossed for you and there are lots of staffy wishes coming your way! -
Desperately Need Advice!

Seizures happen for a gazillion different reasons and all of them require vet care. My boy was only 23 months of age when he started seizuring. He has been diagnosed with epilepsy and it has been a constant fight ever since. He does not have a trigger for his epilepsy it is a type that is genetic. He currently has severe seizures every two weeks and has been on medication since last september. We are still mixing and matching to see what works best for him. Would i PTS - NO, not unless i thought he was in pain. It is very hard to deal with seeing him fit, but the next day he is better, it is only one day per fortnight that he is not himself - the rest of the time he is a naughty little lovable rat bag. He is otherwise an extremely healthy fit dog. BUT - there are soooo many different things that could be wrong with your dog so you really really do need to have a vet look at him, OR you very well could be in danger of loosing your dog to the seizure. Very important - when the dog fits, it is highly important to keep its body temperature down. We wrap cold wet towels around my boy after his seizure and we wipe him down with them during his seizure . If your dog is having 10 in 24 hours then it is in great danger of frying its internal organs so make sure you keep the dog cool. Make cold water with ice blocks in it available for the dog when it is better - use ice cream to help cool him down - BUT do not use freezing cold water as this might set the dog in shock !! If your dog fits for longer than 4 or 5 minutes without a stop then you seriously need to get it to a VET RIGHT AWAY. !! The rule generally is if the dog fits more than once in the hour then you also need to get it to the vet. I hope to goodness that your dog is better, keep a close eye on the dog and keep it cool. -
wombat - try replacing the veges with more green leafy veges as the ones you feed her are loaded with carbs. Also try a biscuit that is high in fibre try brocolli, spinache, cabbage (swede sometimes cause i know they love it). Be careful with hypothyroidism because untreated it can cause more problems then you care to imagine. Good luck i hope all goes well

Crikey - vet visits are expensive in Melbourne. Mine has gone up from $22 to $30 but i dont' think i will be complaining now i heard how much you guys pay. my boy has epilepsy and i have him at the vet constantly - I'd go broke at that cost ALSO - if the animal is following up visit on anything already seen the vet visit is FREE. eg.. if a dog has surgery, any follow up due to that surgery is free only the medications or tests cost but the visit doesn't i think i better give my vet a box of chocolates for easter petal79 - staffies are prone to skin probs - the best thing i have ever used is a product bought from a pet supply store - it is made by aristopet and it is a tea tree oil antiseptic ointment. it comes in a white tube or tub with green on it. it cures nearly any staffy itch and is a great investment for the cupboard. Also there is a creme called NEOCORT that you can get from your vet - it is a must have in the medicine cabinet if you own a staffy !
-
Yeah a vet visit costs $22.... Peace of Mind that puppy feels well - Priceless PS - if it is not mange and it is something else the Phisohex shampoo cool only make it worse because it is a very strong application. Hope all is well

Why Doesn't Our Staffy Eat Dry Food?
Staffy-Lover replied to Indy Girl's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Buy some plain natural yoghurt and dollop a spoonful on the biscuits and mix it all in. -
Sorry to hear the disappointing news. But Ollie has proven himself such a fighter that he could very well fight, even without chemo, for a long long time. With a mum that gives him every love and care I believe you will see many more bouncy days yet. Lots of staffy smooches are coming Ollie's way from my house and I hope that he is back eating you out of house and home soon. Best Best wishes
-
Lots of staffy smooches from our way to Ollie... hoping that the chicken kebabs hit the spot.. I really hope he brightens up soon
-
I really hope Ollie is feeling better StaffyLuv. My boy has epilepsy and when he has a bad turn he has to go to the Dr's and I always tell them that i want to take him home because i will watch him allnight, where as at the vet they do shifts.... my vet is usually okay with this, unless he really wants to monitor my boy himself. Perhaps you can ask your vet why he does not want Ollie going home, because it might be for a good reason... if not then i would insist Lots of Staffy smooches are on their way to Ollie from my house.

This might be a great business for a lovely doler who has the space to HOME CARE animals when their owners are away AND who are willing to follow barf and other needs.
-
oh kayel i hope this darling is feeling better today - it is miserable when you have the fluey symptoms if you are worried about water and he is eating.... add water to his food. hope to hear a happy update soon
-
oh i thought so. you lucky person, i looooovvvveeeee ned. I have walked him before and he has been fine with others. and he was great with the two dogs next door to him aswell. am thinking that maybe it has to do with being protective of you or something because he wasn't dog aggressive when at SR. I really look forward to hearing updates on this gorgeous guy and PHOTOS please

petal39 is this Ned from staffy rescue? It looks like the same doggy. If so i would give staffy rescue a call as they will be able to let you know how he is with other dogs.
