i agree it is not about taste it is about nutrition and making sure puppy has a balanced diet. I would try: good quality puppy biscuit (unless u have decided on raw diet completely) a raw egg a few times a week veges pulped up in the blender atleast once a day (only a half table spoon) meat (this is where you can vary so that pup gets a good variety and good nutrition) fish product once or twice a week (salmon is good) plain yoghurt in with the night meal (only a half table spoon) feed pup in small amounts a few times a day until he is a bit bigger then drop it down to morning and night. introduce chicken wings once pup is bigger ! a good quality treat for training (not too much salt) and i would thoroughly recommend a baby kong toy - inside freeze mince, veges and yoghurt this is good for babies brain as it tries to work out how to get the food out.... it is also good for the jaws !

any natural or greek yoghurt will be fine the flavoured ones only for a treat as they have too much sugar. -

My Dog Has A Red Rash On Her Underside
Staffy-Lover replied to BlueDomino's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I just saw the second lot of photos and it definately looks like a contact rash... even his paws are pink. definately ask for ilicourt at the vet and get the tea tree cream i suggested. this is exactly what my staffy girl gets all the time... so keep a tube of both in the fridge -

My Dog Has A Red Rash On Her Underside
Staffy-Lover replied to BlueDomino's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
hi, staffy's and the like tend to get alot of contact rashes from grasses, heat and you name it.... they are prone to it. when my dog gets this similar rash i use two things... firstly... and u should always have a tub in your cupboard..... from the petstore you can buy Aristopet Tea Tree Oil Antiseptic ointment (in a tub 250g for about $18). Apply this daily and it tends to clear up the rash. (white tub.. green and yellow and white label) secondly...if it is more persistent you need to go to the vet and get some Illicourt cream...it works wonders and is also pretty cheap. You need to check your yard for any spikey weeds,,, any wandering dew which is a vine like grass that has leaves shaped sort of like love hearts,,, any other long seedy grass. Even if you are not sure...pull them out and see if it makes a difference. Bedding: you shouldn't have blankets and stuff... try a plain cotton sheet for a little while to see if it clears up Fleas: advantix or the like Shampoo: use a non allergenic one... not a perfume one.. as many staffs skin don't handle perfumed ones ----- i often just use baby soap. Food: lots of staffies are allergic to fish.. so if you are feeding fish then try and change this and see what happens.... Good Luck - Your pup is gorgeous !!!! -

Bonnie dog is pretty cheap for 20kg's it is only $30-$35 i also use it for my dogs... but you don't need the working dog... you can use the bonnie complete HOWEVER... while she is a puppy maybe you would be best to go for a special PUPPY food. I am not sure that Bonnie do one. Remember that the early years are very important for bone growth so you need to get hold of a good quality food. also you can add rice, pasta, (NOT BREAD) and grated veges like carrot, zuccini, broccoli, cabbage etc (frozen green mixed veges are also fine) Then good quality meat - not too much fat... i feed my dogs lambs mince or veal mince. a little spoon of PLAIN yoghurst every second day is good and an egg once or twice a week is also good - just raw into their food. -
Question: and it is probably gonna sound pretty dumb!! none of my dogs has ever had worms (we worm 3 mnthly)...is this usual? do most dogs get worms? am i just not seeing them when i pick the poop up?

StaffyLuv i noticed you give ollie vitamin c. Can you tell me what that does? Just wondering as i have been researching vitamins to give my epi dog to boost his system. Best wishes to all the sick puppies !

some human disinfectants and antiseptics are poison to dogs so i would be careful what you used on him. You need to get in and have a good look to see that there is no grass seed or splinter etc stuck in there. What you can try is soaking his foot in a diluted bucket of condies crystals (the purple crystals) and then dabbing his paw dry. Also there is a cream at the pet store that is in a white tub with green writing and it is a tea tree and cream antiseptic which i find works wonders on pretty much any time of cut, itch or whatever on my staffies. But if he hasn't stopped licking you might need a vet visit just to check nothing is in there. Good Luck !

i absolutely know how you feel.... the tiniest symptoms of parvo make even the most sane of us go crazy with thoughts... everyone knows the panic that this awful thing instills in people... i am guilty of the same madness I hope all is well tomorrow and we look forward to seeing Chili's 16th bday cake photos
-
imashep, if your dog is fully vaccinated against parvo then it is highly unlikely unless it is otherwise sick and has a low immune system. But it is not impossible... good thing is that if you get it quick with a bigger dog that has vaccination you have a better chance of survival. In every probability it is just a tummy upset so don't panic.. but i would be taking a little trip to the vet for peace of mind. parvo usually has a longer incubation period than just thurs to sun (3 days)...just have a check up tomorrow to be safe and feel sane again But dont panic as it is very unlikely okay !

Natural Therapies/vitimins
Staffy-Lover replied to bouncey boxers's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
for the highly strung dog: rescue remedy... many people use it for the dogs when travelling in cars, after seizures in epilepsy, anxiety etc. You just put a few drops under the tongue... it is all natural ! -
My Staffy Has Dry And Itchy Skin
Staffy-Lover replied to Tessa Bell's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Tessa Bell, To get your doggie to eat more of her dry biscuits pop a table spoon of "natural" yoghurt into her biscuits and mix it all through. This should help you out and the yoghurt is good for her insides aswell. If she has dry skin you could try Aloveen shampoo and conditioner (leave in) which has oils in it that might help you. But if pup has dandruff then don't use this one. But if the dog has an ITCH from something else then you need to one by one elimiate things. Ie.. for 2 weeks try a new dry biscuit... if no change... for 2 weeks substitute something and so on till you see a change. Also - i have found a baby soap with no perfumes is always good for staffies, especially oatmeal based ones. Good Luck ! -
