  1. ahhh that's the one I was looking for but didn't come up in my Google search ( which I totally suck at , always get everything but what I'm looking for )
  2. I used to use vetnpetdirect but have noticed that not only do they don't want to recognise my existing account with them , their websites safety rating is now listed as red ( unsafe) so I'm looking for a new online pet supply store mainly for Frontline Plus and Heartgard Plus , any suggestions ? It's easier for me to buy online
  3. It should have a slight yoghurt smell , the white bikkies. My dog ( ACD) loves it and has been on it for about 3 months now , her coat is much thicker and softer but do watch the quantity , I 1/2 what it says on the pack and give 1 cup blended rice/veg with it.
  4. Oks Thank you , I'm going to get one and do a new level of training , my ACD thinks she knows it all now and is being a bit mmmm ...a typical teenage girl
  5. Just saw some for sale and wondered if they actually work ? My girl is reasonably good at recall until she's on a scent , she knows I'm calling her and it's a case of "Yeah just a minute" So I thought a change or additional training to a recall of "come" mind jolt her a bit , but do these whistles work ok with dogs ? Any special ways of using them , or how not to use them etc ?
  6. No I've never noticed that , she's mainly stiff after excersise and then resting . great ideas guys , a vet check is first on the list then a few things as suggested added to her diet , luckily she's not overweight although being a typical girl she only has to look at food and put it on but we watch her diet carefully , she she's got a big bum when she sits :D
  7. My red ACD , 3 years old is showing signs of stiffness in her hind legs/bum area when she gets up from her bed , mainly at the end of the day. She's not working but active in running/play and walking everyday. I give her 2 Fish oil capsules at night in her dinner , and were going to get her a bed that is off the ground ( currently has a king feather doona folded in 4 so nice and warm and soft) Is it normal for a dog this age to shows signs of stiffness ? and is there anything else we can do to help prevent it getting worse ? She sleeps indoors and it's not cold up here .
  8. Not exactly Pet stuff but you can always make your Pet a Quilt :D Lots of free patterns , quilt , patchwork bags house items etc http://mexicocityquiltguild.googlepages.com/
  9. Ohh major sigh of relief was playing ball with her in the backyard when she stopped and looked at the leg and I though uuuhhooh what's done now , when I looked she'd just pulled the 1/2 nail of and no blood nothing , amazing ! It's short dewclaw now , no idea how that all happened but so glad I didn't have to anything  I'm still going to get some Styptic powder though , for when I'm braver next time
  10. Ok , no chance of a groomer or pet store ( living in the sticks has it's drawbacks) But I can tape it up , was wondering how to keep the bandage on , so electrical tape sounds good I'll see if I can get hold of the vet in the morning , she's so going to not love me , poor girl the only time I have rung her on the mobile is on her off days
  11. Ohh yuk and bummer , always happens on a weekend doesn't it Her Dew Claw is broken in half , it's not hanging just bent but I'm afraid it could get torn off , I can't cut it where its bend as it looks to me that where the break is , is where the vein runs. if the worst happens and it does come off , what can I do ? No vet till Tuesday ( Public Holiday here M) although there maybe a 24 hour one in Cairns , have to sort that out yet she'll have someone here to watch her 24/24 hour , till I can get her into the Vet , I'm just worried should something happen until then
  12. There not my dogs and I believe the vet has all but given up to try and find out whats causing it , I've passed the info on to my friend , she's trying the metho and is double checking the cats but they seem ok , one dog is fine now , so maybe it is working , I told her to double check the dogs food including use by date and or if she made any changes etc
  13. Friend has dogs that have had an ear infection that won't clear , vet can't work it out and dermatologist hasn't any ideas either , seeing it's spreading to the other dogs it must be some form of germ but what ? Any ideas ? Would cleaning the ears with Apple cider vinegar on cotton pads help ? Doesn't seem to be a diet related problem either , they are in country Vic , fairly dry hot area .
  14. My dog , ACD , has been trained in hand signals and whistle signals , however they were initially combined with words , I just gradually withdrew the word command and gave the signal . I wonder if you could train the dog in both ? You give the command while the owner gives the hand signal , so that the dog learns both , then withdraw the verbal commands ? Just a thought as it wasn't hard to train my dog like that , if you've seen how drovers train their dogs , I think it's mainly by whistle command , maybe someone here might know more on that .
  15. I don't agree with the 15 kg weight range , my dog an red ACD is 22kg at 16 months she was 21 kg and slightly overweight according to the vet she isn't overweight now but has a lot of muscle and is a very active dog . She is taller then the recommended height , come to think of it some of the websites that state the height/weight etc seem way off . Just make sure she doesn't have a flabby front chest ( sure sign of excess weight) has hips and when her coat is wet you an see where her ribs would be ( unless she has a really thick coat) My ACD only has to look at food and gain weight ;) , we constantly watch her diet and it annoys me too that when you read the feeding instructions on dry/canned food that they must be giving measurements for elephants
  16. I have used Woolmix for 20 odd years on both cats and dogs , no problems and rarely a flea ( I have never used any flea repellents on my cats )
  17. I just realised I said "tabs" , but they are the chewables types I use . My dog has always been on the Heartgard chewables , would it be a problem to change to another type/brand of tablets rather then chewables ? She's a 3 yr old ACD .
  18. I can get some Heartgard Tabs for my dog 20kg , but I noticed that the 23-45kg pack would be much more economical if I halved the dose , is that a good idea? Does anyone here do that ?
  19. There are plenty of good articles that will help train your puppies , I used the method in the article and started using a clicker from the day my pup ACD came home. You must be consistant , start training yourself that this is a dog and not a toy and be firm , plenty of time for play and reward but set boundaries immediately. Our ACD was the first dog we spend time on training and the more you do the more she laps it up , she knows her position , knows the boundaries and is a joy to own. Read the article as the advice given really does work . http://www.clickertraining.com/node/725
  20. So sorry to hear of your sad news , run free together gorgeous dogs :D
  21. It's not the feet in the water that gets me , it's the walking away with a gob full of water so it slobbers from the kitchen to the lounge that bothers me
  22. Ohhh yum crunchies My old cat (rip) used to eat them , he'd walk around with one in his mouth , poor things legs sticking out and trilling away making the cat's head vibrate ;)
  23. Forgive me if I'm wrong and if so maybe someone can tell me why BUT I thought Tomatoes , Capsicum and the Cabbage type family of vegies are not good for dogs ? I've always been told not to give my dog tomatoes or brocoli/cauliflower/cabage . My dog also needs to loose about 2 kg so I'm following this thread to get ideas etc
  24. Just my 2cents Advantix should be used with strict guidelines if you own cats , it's poisonous to them. Dog and Cat should not be in contact with each other for at least 24 hours after application on dog ( info from vet )
