  1. Good to hear he is getting better but what was the diagnosis?.
  2. I cant help you there but you will find someone and I hope you enjoy your new home, and AUS. Suggest you modify your post to something like VET RECOMMENDATION REQUIRED, PERTH WEMBLY DOWNS VICINITY
  3. Mrs D I am sorry if I put you into a spot of confusion, where I immediately came from, Land of the Long White Cloud, we only ever did the two vaccinations, whilst here it appears to be three. Hope that you have managed to figure it out now. Always with a puppy better safe than sorry, by all means introduce to other puppies or dogs, preferably at your home, when you know the dogs have been vaccinated.
  4. First is normally done at 6 weeks, second at 12 weeks and then it is between 10-14 days after the last shot before you can take them out in public. However there are puppy "schools", which hold socialisation "classes" for youngsters.
  5. Mel774 Sorry I havent been following the threads!!. I am not a sales rep, just someone who has been using Nutro Natural Choice for some years with great results. Please pm me if you would like a better chart of the information. Downsizing is not easy.
  6. I am not a sales representative for any company, just someone who has used Nutro Natural Choice for the last 7 years with great results, it is a product that I have a great amount of respect for so if you need any information please pm me.
  7. Its the drying which counts with the long coated breeds. My mind has gone blank and its too cold and dark outside to go down to the shed where all my supplies are, but there springs to mind two products which I use one called shedlite and the other outrageous which help, cant think who puts them out. If you groom your collie regularly then dont use the undercoat rake on her, go for, and they are expensive, a Mason and Pearson brush. If you dont know of them then ask at your hairdresser, they are actually human hair brushes!! Use the undercoat rake on the Malamute coat, but also use a conditioner such as Aloveen. Pm if you want some more help.
  8. I know you are looking towards a poodle, but have you considered a rescue greyhound?.
  9. You need to establish why your puppy is barking, it would appear that if you are leaving home early and not returning for some-time that it is probably boredom. Here are some reasons why dogs bark. You dont want to get into the situation where a neighbour complains to the Council. If your house overlooks theirs then you may have to look at leaving him in an area where he cannot see into their property. Kennel position, size and condition Boredom, anxiety Neighbouring children teasing the dog through the fence A change in family, environment or lifestyle of owners Hunger, discomfort Attention seeking Lack of exercise Fleas or troublesome flies Loneliness Are you able to get up a little earlier in the mornings and excercise your pup. Try and nip this in the bud before it gets to be a problem. One way of trying to stop the barking is the use of an aboistop collar. This is a collar which has citronella oil in it and when they bark it gives them a whiff of oil. Some vet. clinics have them avail. for trial.
  10. It will dry if you use enough powder, just keep at it.
  11. You also asked about him crying at night, he is settling in and missing his litter mates and Mum, get an alarm clock or radio and pop it by his bed.
  12. Two things which are apparent: The brisket bone with the meat AND fat when he is not used to it will upset his tummy, he could react either by throwing up or having squitty poohs. A puppy should NOT go into public places until about 10 days after his 2nd vaccination.
  13. If you are going to do it yourself, I think you mentioned that your OH has a Malamute?, then you will need a really good comb, such as an undercoat rake, mist the coat before and during combing so that it doesn't split the hair. As Dru has suggested a good dryer which you may be able to pick up second hand on ebay-Liberty make a lot here -will help force out loose hair and it will come up well. When using the dryer I put on some Aloveen conditioner which can be left in the coat. www.specialfriendsdogcare.com.au
  14. Unfortunately as you have said changing food quickly can lead to pooh problems, 8 times per day is certainly too much. Use carpet power which you can get from the supermarket, or woolwash.
  15. princessbella, what did you think of the Grimenator shampoo?. I have used it quite a bit on smelly dogs and it has always worked well. Making sure the dog is completely dry after washing is very improtant, as is washing out the shampoo, so good to hear you found a good groomer. keep those ears and feet short!!
  16. Try contacting peachie, a member of these forums, she is in Sydney, and I believe has a mobile service. She posted not so long ago in Health and Grooming about a rough collie which had been neglected.
  17. Generally speaking yes 11 months is too old, whether or not she is a pet, shelties look so much better with their ears tipped so in principle I would keep the weights on.
  18. Did the breeder give you a puppy diet sheet?. What are you feeding her?. I feed Nutro a superior commercial dry food, puppy formula, and on the back of the packet it gives you the correct amount in grams to feed according to the weight of the dog. By all means leave water out for her at night, but generally not food.
  19. I had never had problems with them before but one of mine got one on his back about two weeks ago and within 48 hours (over a weekend) they had spread. Three patches on his back, one on a rear leg, one on a front leg and one on an ear. Ended up having a course of antibiotics and cortisone. The vet recommended washing them with vetadine (iodine based) and then applying sorbolene. The actual "infected spots" were not palm sized, more like 50c pieces.
  20. Not too far away from you! I have been using Advantix for a year now, and with four shelties and a birman cat, all long hair, I havent seen a flea on them at all (not that I use advantix for the cat). I have bought from a vet clinic here before I got onto the net, and have bought from vetproductsdirect and pricelesspets and not had problem, so perhaps a packet problem?. As a matter of interest have bathed three dogs today all in Beerwah and all complained of flea problems, seems it is an enviornment problem with them as all have been treating them.
  21. Fortnightly is OK, a lot depends on the type of shampoo which you are using, most require that you rinse out, and make sure she is thoroughly dried off, as damp patches will cause her to smell. You can use a hair dryer on her.
  22. lillysmum hope all OK with her, and Rappie nice to see you back.
  23. Turboterror dont suppose you know of somewhere near Brisbane that does this?. Would love to go with my shelties.
  24. I feed Nutro and here is a comparison chart with some other superior quality dried foods. Maize is the same as corn. This is their base diet but they also get sardines in oil once a week on top of it, chicken wings, carrots, etc. Through my business I carry quite a large range of shampoos. One which many dont think about using which is good is vetadine, an iodine based shampoo for non specific skin conditions, which you can leave in the coat and which has a conditioner in it. It leaves a nice shiny coat. Avail on line through vetproductsdirect or from a saddlery shop. attachmentid=38836
  25. Not desexing a male dog can lead to prostate problems and eventually cancer, the op itself is relatively straight forward. You should explain to your family that it is better to neuter him rather than he be subjected to the possibility of cancer, WHICH IS MORE CRUEL?. I have a neutered dog and he is as happy as anything, in no way has it affected his so called manhood. We have leash free areas here as well, which include dog parks as you have in Singapore, are you 100% sure you can watch him like a hawk at the dog park.
