Litters Due In March 2012
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to Bilbo Baggins's topic in Breeders Community
So good with shelties that we don't have the problems with identifying them, all have different markings. My old girl, Skye, now 14, and Gr Gr Gr Grandma was allowed to sniff the pups today. She promptly decided they needed a good wash. Skye has a new lease of life which is great. :D -

Litters Due In March 2012
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to Bilbo Baggins's topic in Breeders Community
So it appears that this litter will be registered with Dogs QLD as having been born on 29 Feb, they then laughingly told me that they won't have a birthday for four years. Wonder what a judge will say if I keep them as a puppy until 2014. buddy1, sorry can't help you re velcro or ribbons, ours all have different markings which we can identify them from. Congratulation and look forward to your news soon. :) -

Stolzseinrotts, SINCERE apologies I should have congratulated you earlier on your litter. Technically we shouldn't be in this thread :D Our litter was due 02 Mar but Bree whelped 29 Feb. I checked with BB and she had no objection to us continuing to post in this thread. :) -
Need Help With Calcium And Heating Information
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to Ptolomy's topic in Breeders Community
Have already replied to your question re Calcium in the March litters due thread. :) If in doubt ask your vet. ;) We had a litter born in June 2010 and used an ultraviolet heat lamp. It was enough to keep the whelping box warm without over-cooking Mum. -

The bitch is on the left, with a reasonable white collar, the one I think you are referring to is a dog, he has a small white spot on the back of his neck. :) -

The amount of Calcium Sandoz to give is on the bottle and depends on the type of diet your dog is on e.g. all dry, dry mixed with canned, canned only etc. x twice daily. With our latest litter we gave Bree calcium sandoz the day she whelped and after that we added a teaspoon of Glucodin powder (avail. from supermarkets) to her water. Hope Bella is on the improve. -

Litters Due In March 2012

So pleased to hear Bella is settling. :) I have moved the pups and Bree into our living room. They are stacking on the weight. The whelping room is a self contained grannyflat at the other end of our house and it's a long walk out there when we have rain lashing in on our verandah. I have not generally moved puppies in before 2 weeks. Bree has a playpen around her and will have to get used to the others being around. It's not as if it is her first litter so she should settle quite quickly. -

Fordogs, have not had this happen before. I hope Bella settled with them overnight.? Perhaps she has a slight infection and you could call the vets today for some advice. :) -

Good to hear that Bella and her brood are doing well :) Fordogs at what stage do you start weaning?. We try them on premium beef mince at about 3.5 weeks and at four start them on mushy puppy food with mince. We also start taking them outside at four weeks, generally about 5 mins. per day and increase daily from then. -

Great news, fordogs. Sorry for your loss. Hope Bella has settled well with her puppies, certainly worth the three year wait. Looking forward to photos when you are able to. -
Thanks, Katanda. Unfortunately I have yet to come across a Black and Tan sheltie. NOW that would put the cat amongst the pigeons if one were in the ring here, LOL. ;)

Jed, your reply is very much appreciated :) The bis are slowly becoming more accepted here in Australia, whilst they are popular in the US/Canada and Europe. MDM and others the dog on the left om my signature is Bree, the mother of the pups, and on the right her brother, Odin. Odin was the first bi- black to gain a title here in QLD and the only the 4th in Australia. With the bis, we have the bi-blacks being the black and whites, and then the bi-blues, which are blue merles without the tan. There are no bi-blues in the ring in Australia at the moment. Hopefully that will not be the case soon. :D ;)
-
Thanks, all. Will post photos when they are older. :)

Bi-blacks are not the easiest to breed as the bi-factored gene is recessive. My interest first started out with, Hesa Panda Bear, who is now 11 1/4 years old. :D I mated Panda's sister to, at that time in NZ a Dutch import-who carried the gene, and from there we seem to have gone from strength to strength. To have one or two bi-blacks in a litter is an achievement in itself, but four, in the one litter, all of whom have survived is for me stunning!!. :) :D

Thanks, Loraine. You have been such a staunch supporter of us. :) We have with this litter, tried to correct a fault in our lines which is that ours tend to go oversize as far as the standard is concerned. The dog we chose, we are hoping, will correct this fault. I had a gut feeling he was bi-factored and the "gamble" has paid off. Am hoping that we have achieved our aim.

For those who cannot post in the Breeders section and who have previously shown an interest in our litters. Bree, my 3 year old bi-black bitch has just had her 2nd litter yesterday. We were pleased that in her first litter she had a bi-black dog and bitch, but in this litter she has exceeded all our expectations and given birth to not one or two, but FOUR bi blacks. We are absolutely stunned, and I believe the owner of the stud dog even more so. He is a tri who I thought may carry the bi-factored gene. We have one bitch and three dogs. All doing well. Weights 10-15oz. In the photo the bitch is on the left.
