  1. Sorry treatment was Vitamin B3 in the form of Niacinamide and Tetracyclin. Have relevant information on D.L.E. and treatment as advised by Dr Christine Rees, Dermatologist, Texas A and M University if you need it.
  2. Hi Staffyx Panda developed D.L.E. (sometimes known as Collie Nose) in 2003 and it is now totally under control, with no sign of it for the last two years. Luckily it was only on his nose. Vets first had him on prednisone which I baulked at, as at the time he was only 2 1/2. We tried a multitude of remedies inlcuding Vitamin E, and eventually used Aristocort (spelling may be aristocourt) a cortisone cream for humans. A dog with DLE needs to be kept away from the sun's U/V rays as they aggravate it. I was quite worried moving to QLD from NZ, but we haven't had a problem here at all. Please feel free to pm me for further info.
  3. See you actually have a skye not a Westie Westies are prone to skin complaints, and sometimes it is actually the diet which is causing the problem. What do you feed your dog?.
  4. We use sentinel spectrum for worms and fleas as it does all the worms, including heartworm, this is in tablet form, and given monthly. We then use Advantix for ticks, a spot on treatment, which we give once a fortnight. PS we purchase both from www.pricelesspets.com.au
  5. We feed Nutro Natural Choice as the base of their diets, we also give chicken wings and sardines.
  6. You may be interested to know that when I worked at a clinic over the summer last year I caught one of the nurses bathing FOUR dogs in the same water.
  7. I have some asculap, again not cheap, but very nice to work with.
  8. Whichever you choose to feed you need to weigh up the balance between what it costs you per day for each product to feed your dog, and then have a good hard look at the ingredients list looking not only for chemical preservatives, but the type of grain used and other additives, and then make a choice from there. e.g Nutrience contains corn as a filler and also has preservatives
  9. Nutro have a mini kibble available in Adult Maintenance and Lamb and Rice, mini being for dogs which prefer a small bite. It is available from 4 Paws and More Pet Supplies in Keilor Park, am sure they would send you some samples if you cant get to them.
  10. Sorry to hear about Tobie. Breeds such as shelties, border collies and rough collies are know to have an Ivermectin sensitivity and it is not recommended that these dogs have a heartworm injection.
  11. The question was would you buy based on the first four ingredients, of which product B listed cereals and bran as its first ingredients, as a consumer I would want to know what those cererals were before making a decision. Cereals may include maize, wheat, rice, barley, sorghum, millets, rye and buckwheat. If I cannot establish which of cereals are included, and given that product B lists cereals and bran as its first ingredient, then I would purchase product A, and pay top $$$$$ providing the criteria in my first post can be answered: and conform to AAFCO profiles." Are they both in fact AAFCO tested or are they just formulated to meet AAFCO requirements. There is a vast difference between "tested" and "formulated". If either of the two comes with AAFCO testing then this would be a factor in choice. We choose what we feed our dogs based on performance, which as you may know is the balance between taste vs palability vs usable nutrition vs excellent ingredients vs digestibility. Do either of these products meet this performance level?. We also feed based on the fact that the product we use comes with a specific skin and coat improvement guarantee. Do either of these two products carry that guarantee?.
  12. It was said that Food B contained cereals and bran, but we have yet to be given an answer as to what type of cereals have been used. :p
  13. Inspector Rex we too lost Simba, the little lion, who just didnt make it at about 1.00am on 31.10.06, so I know that they will find and take care of each other and will always be there for their litter brothers and sisters.
  14. Dont want to hijack the thread but we feed Nutro and no smelly farts, nice firm stools and not too many considering we have 4.
  15. Thanks, my oh has just buried him in the garden. I called him Simba, as he was my little lion who fought so hard. I know that me previous Shelties, Sandy and Breeze will look after him. He is the first puupy which I have lost
  16. One of our puppies didnt make it last night, he was an hour in the birth canal, and no matter what we did mother nature took over. He was one of 6. R.I.P. Simba
  17. Terrorbull do you have Kaos on Adult Performance?, it has a higher protien and fat ratio and is for dogs who have trouble maintaining their weight.
  18. A few questions would need to be asked before deciding: You have stated that "Both have added vitamins and minerals which make them complete dog foods" Do added vitamins and minerals in fact make a food complete and balanced?. "and conform to AAFCO profiles." Are they both in fact AAFCO tested or are they just formulated to meet AAFCO requirements. There is a vast difference between "tested" and "formulated". If either of the two comes with AAFCO testing then this would be a factor in choice. What are the cereals used by product "B"? They are listed in product A, but not B I would want to know this first. I wouldnt be too concerned about the protein or fat content of "A" as opposed to B as have little doubt that this is only one of their products and that some of the others in fact have a higher %. Once the above questions have been asked I would make a decision on either paying top $$$$, or less.
  19. I dont think that Nutro is any more expensive than other "super" premium foods. You pay for what you get and in this case it is quality ingredients
  20. Perhaps have a look at Nutro Large Breed Adult Maintenance.
