Looking through "Owner's Guide to Dog Health", by Lowell Ackerman: Looks very similar to Interdigital pyoderma due to sterile pyogranuloma, photographs here supplied in the book, as suggested by Miranda. Anti-inflammatories rather than anti-biotics are recommended. Seems as though a trip to emergency vet may be in order.

Great post Erny. We certainly tried other methods to de-sensitise. "Fortunately it requires the complaint of more than one neighbour for the Council to take formal action". Not in our case in NZ, I was living on a cross lease at the time and he was the only complainant. Briefly I submitted 22 pages of documentation to the Council about the behaviour of my dogs, including a letter from my other neighbour who at the time worked nights. If she had been disturbed by my dogs whilst trying to sleep during the day she would have been furious to say the least.. This Twerp had no evidence whatsoever, no tapes, no nothing  Had a councillor visit to see the set up at home (she was a dog owner), and the last thing she said to me as she left the property after having a chat, for an hour, was "There are many a***holes in this world and he is one of them (complainant). Dont worry everything will be fine. She turned out to be the BIGGEST A***HOLE of all time as was the "judge" in a court room appearance at the Council Chambers, where I lost my case despite the documentary evidence which had obviously not been read or taken into account. Hence my dogs were de-barked. For those that think it is cruel, dont get me wrong I cried and cried and cried for days before the operation but when it is a matter of de-bark or have the dogs put down, despite the fact that this twerp was the only complainant then you also would have them de-barked.

What a wonderful "innings", you will cherish those memories of her for ever. Mindi enjoy chasing the seagulls over the  there will be many a dog to join in the chase

Forgot to mention that in our case we were faced with the optioon of either having them de-barked or having them impounded and put down, in those cirsumstances am sure you would be taking the same option. Unfortunately our breed do tend to be noisy little blighters, as Wylie and Nadia have both said de-barked dogs still run around barking madly its just that the noise level is decreased by about 80%
-
We had our four de-barked in NZ due to neighbour complaints. It involves a small nick in the vocal cords to stop the build up of pressure. In some instances the op isnt successful the first time and a vet will normally do it for free the second time. I have NOT heard of the vocal cords being cut, or shaved. I dont know about it sounding like a chainsaw, it depends on the breed and the vet's skill, ours sound like they have laryngitis. Whilst it may have been illgeal in QLD, correct me if I am wrong, I understood that that had now changed?. Have a breeder friend near me who has always had hers de-barked and have met others as well, so there are vets in QLD who do do the operation. Panting more has nothing what soever to do with the operation.

Flycow, in all fairness, when some here have posted about "rubbish" foods they have more than likely been speaking about the likes of supercoat, which if you would care to use the search feature here and go back over a period of time, or indeed just read over this post again, you will find that several posters have had a problem with supercoat. None here have specifically degenerated other products like Nutrience, Royal Canin or Innova, we have all merely pointed out the ingredients and the guaranteed analysis which is an important factor in the choice of any food. For anyone wanting to choose what is best for their dogs look at the ingredients list, look at the guranateed analysis, purchase a smaller quantity, say a 7.5kg bag and see how your dog does on it. If you dont like the commercial dry foods then there are many other options including BARF. -

Nutro doesnt contain any wheat, you can check this by either looking on the back of the packet at the ingredients list or on their website. -

The super premiums as mentioned by Flycow may have a money back guarantee but NONE APART from Nutro Natural Choice (to give the product its correct name) have a specific skin and coat improvement guranatee as well. -

As Sags has said the Nutro she is currently getting in has an expiry date of 2008, as does ours, so there would be plenty of leeway there. -

Pandii You feed according to the weight of the dog. I remember someone in NZ with a Basset/Lab cross, he weighed approx 23 kg and a 15kg bag would last him 4 months -

Pandii, the only stockist of Nutro in Victoria is 4 Paws and More as mentioned in my post. When looking at the cost of a commercial dry food you will find that the super premiums are more expensive, but you will find that you are feeding quality and not rubbish and the actual quantity you feed will be a lot less as advised by HH. -

We have been feeding ours Nutro for over six years and they all do well on it: This is from someone who has recently switched her dogs on to Nutro and I think speaks for its self: I first tried a sample of Nutro Choice Performance that I had won at a Sheep Herding Trial. I win a lot of samples and try them all looking for something outstanding. This was the first sample I have tried where I can honestly say that “...I saw a definite change…” My young Belgian Shepherd had dropped all her coat just before the Brisbane Royal. I placed her on the Nutro Choice and within 3 weeks, she had a full coat that was shiny and full. She looked great. I now feed all my dogs, including a 9yr old German Shepherd on the Nutro performance, and they are noticeably healthier and happier, even their stools have decreased and I am feeding them less. Nutro Choice would have to be one of the best foods I have ever tried, and I will keep on using it. My dogs compete in Show, Obedience, Herding and Tracking, and must look and perform their best at all times. Nutro Choice Performance enables me to do this. PS available from 4 Paws and More in Keilor Park Melbourne -

You will find a lot of helpful advice here. Its always pays to read the ingredients list of any foods and it will help you to understand better that many of the cheaper brands are full of "rubbish". -

It could be any number of things, but certainly as lillysmum has suggested you may need to try a better quality food. There are several super premium commercial dried foods, one that may help is Nutro's Chicken and Rice, which is formulated for dogs with a sensitive stomach :D -
What Do You Feed Your Dog And Why?
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to squirt80's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
With a super premium brand like Nutro Natural Choice, it may be expensive for the initial outlay, but in the long run you are feeding a lot less as you are feeding quality as opposed to quantity. -
Have come across many a fussy eater be they puppies or adults and one of the commercial dried products which seems to "do the trick" is Nutro Natural Choice. Correct feeding amounts for any commercial food is given on the packet, and the amount you feed should be adjusted to according to the extras they get be they chicken necks, wet food, etc. Chewing on sticks and things be it washing, slippers etc is just part of being a loveable mischevious puppy

What Do You Feed Your Dog And Why?
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to squirt80's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We feed Nutro Natural Choice, a super premium brand of dry food, together with chicken wings and sardines once a week. Whatever commercial food you decide to feed have a good look at the ingredients list and the guaranteed analysis. Many have chemical preservatives, added colourants, by-products and corn. Nutro do not have the above.
