A Sheepdog's Dream
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to Vickie's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Congratulations, something which we all aspire to. Have a shower, have a sit down, pour a glass of something and relish in your and your dogs' achievements. -
Nick&Erica, Ziwpeak is a NZ product in cans which is avail here but they dont make a puppy food. We use a desertspoon daily of the canned for ours and they LOVE it, it also comes in Dialy Cuisine which is like a beef jerky and also treats. Zieiwpeak is based on venison or lamb.
-
Nick&Erica Your breeder would be a retail person only, the importer is based in NZ, they dont have a warehouse here themselves but use a large transport company in Brisbane. Sorry but it is impossible to get either the cans or the holistic range here in Australia.
-
Nick&Erika and Nacster Please note that Nutro canned food is NOT available in Australia, wish it were as we used to feed canned Lamb and Rice puppy to our pups in NZ. Nacster the Lamb and Rice puppy kibble is only a tad bigger than the puppy mini.

Our vet gave us the OK to commence walking and socialising our puppy after her 12 weeks vaccination.

As with Gretel, pricelesspets have the best deals. We use sentinel spectrum as it covers all wormes, which includes heartworm.

What Do You Look For In A Label
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to sandgrubber's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
ML not sure where Choice sourced their info. from. AAFCO actually invites companies to undergo their testing and many simply will not sit the examinations have they then something to hide? -
What Do You Look For In A Label

There is a huge difference between conforming/formulated to AAFCO standards and actually being AAFCO TESTED there are precious few companies which can actually lay claim to having sat the stringent AAFCO tests, and would doubt that many of those listed above have passed these tests. -
You will find that the likes of Hills, Royal Canin etc are also imported from the US, albeit directly to Australia, considering that Nutro does come in via NZ it is not any more expensive than the other super premiums, with the exception that if it is not in WA then you will be looking at paying a freight cost.
-
Nacster, do you have your puppy on Puppy Mini?, they are a much smaller kibble and have been through this with Jemma, now 4, at times she simply will not touch the bigger kibble so we get her Adult maintenance mini, we too have had Jemma back to the vet for "teeth" problems (which didnt exist) at aged 2

Nutro is not available in WA, but is in South Australia. You CANNOT order Nutro off their website, but you will find a list of suppliers, not that it is 100% up to date. Nutro is imported into NZ from the US by Imports for Pets and then shipped to an Australian warehouse which is in Brisbane.

Toby71, did your breeder give you a puppy diet chart?. Stay away from canned dog food and dog rolls as they are really not the best diet for a puppy and contain a lot of "muck". If you do a search in the health section under BARF you will find many a thread there. Otherwise a commercially prepared dried dog food. There is a large range to choose from starting with the supermarket foods, which again contain a lot of "muck" to the super premium foods. Personally we feed Nutro Natural Choice puppy food to our 16 week old puppy, we also feed her sardines, carrots and chicken wings and she also gets a little Ziwipeak. Whatever you decide to feed your puppy have a good and thorough look at the ingredients list and the guaranteed analysis. We avoid things like animal by-products, chemical preservatives, added colourants, wheat and corn.

Our puppy was wormed at 2, 4, 6, 8 and 12 weeks (we bred her). She is now on Sentinel Spectrum monthly as it covers heartworm and all other worms. Diet has nothing to do with worming and 4-6 weeks is not common practice either. If you are not treating for heartworm, which you should be as you are in QLD, then adult dogs are normally wormed every three months.

Best Food For Rottweiler Puppy
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to SkylineGTR's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Toohey, dont know why your girl would be having fart problems with Nutro, unless you are feeding something else, none of ours have fart problems, and given that we have 5 of them all of whom are house dogs and all of whom sleep on the bed no doubt if we did have those sorts of problems we would be the ones who would have to evacuate in a hurry -
Best Food For Rottweiler Puppy

Whatever you decide to feed your puppy have a careful look at the ingredients list and the guaranteed anaylsis as it is important to know what you are feeding. We have been feeding Nutro Natural Choice for over 6 years and are very pleased with the condition our dogs are in. Soft shiny coats, no skin problems, energy levels are high, less stool content (we have 5) and nicely formed stools. :p Nutro has no chmeical preservatives, no corn, no by-products and no added colourants. -
Ziwipeak dont have fillers, chemical preservatives or added colourants have a look at http://www.ziwipeak.com/ it is available from http://www.naturalpetfoodsaustralia.com/

"best" Brand Of Dog Food For Your Pet?
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to happystarz's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Nutro is avail in some but not all parts of QLD, and NSW, at one outlet in Victoria and now in South Australia. Dont set too much by their website as dont think it is up to date e.g. the supplier in S.A. is not mentioned, neither are the online suppliers such as http://www.naturalpetfoodsaustralia.com/ -
Sorry just saw this thread. Cavmad, you are not alone with your Cav puppies, ours too (and the adults) hate getting their feet wet.

Thalion, this is one of the banner ads on this site. http://naturalpetfoodsaustralia.com/ PS Belgavin, have a look at the ingredients list for Science Diet, not IMHO the best

There are many who simply wont feed supercoat, if you do a search you will find many a topic, here is one: http://forums.dogzonline.com.au/index.php?...=85780&st=0. We have been feeding Nutro Natural Choice for a number of years. Whichever product you decide on have a good and thorough read of the ingredients list and the guaranteed analysis, look for chemical preservatives, animal-by products, corn and added colourants which you should try and avoid.

Phew Spikespuppy, I can hardly see to reply. RIP Blondie and enjoy your showing, dressage and games. This brings back some memories of my boy, Araleigh Cavallero a.k.a Prince, who I lost at 28, after 17 years of sheer love, pleasure and enjoyment.

As Miranda has said supermarket foods are not the best quality to be feeding a puppy. We feed Nutro a commercially prepared super premium food, to all our dogs including our 13 weeks old puppy who has shown no signs of the trots. As also mentioned, the super premium are more expensive, but in the long run (excue the pun) you are not feeding near the quantity of the others and far better quality. When looking for a food please check very carefully both the ingredients list and the guaranteed analysis, what we look for is no chemical preservatives, no added colurants, no animal by products and no corn, maize or wheat.

Sardines in oil rather than spring water, the oil is great for them
