Increasing My Dog's Appetite
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to Chaddy's Mummy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
You may consider trying a product such as Nutro Natural Choice, Adult Performance, as it is for highly active working dogs and those which have problems maintaining weight, it has both a higher fat and protein content. -

Personally would not consider either supercoat or any other supermarket foods, they do not have the best of ingredients for a puppy

Gomez TN: can understand your feelings behind the pet food recalls but we cannot condone Nutro when their dried foods were not affected. We first tried Science Diet and Eukanuba but our dogs wouldn't touch either. We then looked for a food which didnt contain chemical preservatives, added colourants, animal-by products, corn, wheat or maize and Nutro was one of the only products which fitted that criteria. Nutro is the only food which we are aware of with a specific skin and coat improvement guarantee, AND having five dogs, albeit, smallish, stool content was also a consideration. We understand that the products which you mentioned which are avail in the US are possibly not avail here due to AQIS import restrictions which are very stringent. Some of those products are avail in NZ, as indeed is Nutro's holistic range, but not here. 1959: Nutro have a Lamb and Rice mini kibble Falling_dawn Nutro is avail here: http://www.fourpaws.com.au/shop/

Gomez T.N, Nutro's Lamb and Rice Large Breed Adult is North America's No 1 Pet Store Dog Food, that in itself speaks volumes for the quality and popularity of the product.

Best Biscuits For Gsd Puppy?
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to Hoochie Mama's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
GSD Lover To start with look at the first few ingredients of the dry kibbles. e.g. one of the Hills Science Diet's formulas: Ground Whole Grain Corn, Chicken By-Product Meal, Corn Gluten Meal. against one of Nutro Natural Choice formulas: Chicken Meal, Ground Rice, Corn Gluten Meal. We avoid ingredients such as corn, wheat and maize. Many dogs simply cant tolerate corn and many are allergic to wheat, as humans can be celiacs, so can dogs. We then also avoid chemical preservatives and added colourants. Hope this helps. -
Not sure about the adult formulas being suitable for puppies The dry kibbles have been formulated for varying life stages and sizes, we have shelties and certainly would not consider feeding a large breed formula to either our puppies or our adults.

Tasty Royal Canin

Here is a link to Nutro suppliers is Australia, its not exhaustive and does not include online suppliers: http://www.nutro.co.nz/ -
The bones fed raw are not brittle as when cooked, we feed raw chicken wings.
-
Lowchenlove, bones should be fed raw, if they are cooked then they can easily splinter.

We feed both Nutro and Ziwipeak to our dogs, we have never had them refuse either. -
We use Advantix and with the five small/medium dogs one ampoule for dogs over 25 kg will treat them all. In the summer we use it fortnightly, and in the winter every month.

Central Coast (nsw) People - Nutro?
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to benny123's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
This may help? http://www.nutro.co.nz/nsw.htm And there are on line suppliers as well not mentioned in these listings. -
Thanks all, Cara was the baby that I bottle fed, so she held a very special place in our hearts. She was by far the cheekiest in the litter, and a real thinker. She would sit back and watch the others rough and tumble and then race in and get her own back. Kristie, she and Barks will have a great time together.

How Many Dog Groomers Are On Here?
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to 4 Paws's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I had a business in AKL for a number of years, and learnt clipping from the previous owner and also a friend who had been a groomer for over 50 years, Pat taught me a lot. Also did an internet based course which was very helpful. -
Possibly the temperament of your dog?. Panda has had a Damara fall on him, he was winded briefly, but has not lost his confidence, if anything he has more respect for the sheep. Cassie (8 months) doesnt have near the confidence of Panda (age could be a factor) so in training we have let Panda into the yard with her and will continue to do so until she is more confident. She did pass her HIC on the w/e.

We have just received some devastating news Our little Cara got into the horse paddock where she lived and was trodden on by one of the horses. She died instantly and didn't suffer. She was the baby of the litter RIP My baby girl

Have a good read of the ingredients list and the guaranteed analysis on the labels of both dry and tinned products. The first ingredient listed is important: e.g. Hill's Large Breed Puppy has Ground Whole Grain Corn as its first ingredient, whereas Nutro's is Chicken Meal. Ingredients to avoid are corn and wheat, animal by-products, added colourants and chemical preservatives. Ziwipeak make a canned range and their ingredients contain none of the above.

Kristie PLEASE dont blame yourself, it was an accident, and perhaps it was one to learn from. Barker had a wonderful loving time that he was with you, remember that. Thinking of your family

6 Month Large Breed Pup. Adult Or Puppy Food?
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to joelle's topic in Puppy Chat
You have a mixed breed so its harder to advise the correct food as you are not certain as to which breed your pup will throw to. As a general guide Large Breed Puppy is recommended for breeds that will achieve an adult weight of over 22kgs. If that is the case with your puupy, which it appears to be, then you should feed this formula. If your pup is going to be a Large Breed rather than a Giant Breed then it is generally recommended that you feed LB until they are 12-15 months, whereas a Giant would be 15-18 months. Giants are Great Danes, Newfies, Saints, Mastiffs etc These formulas are specifically designed so that these breeds dont grow too quickly thus putting on more stress on their joints. Umm dont think your vet has advised you correctly.
