Have you tried using the search feature in these forums?, by doing so you will come across the ingredients list for satin balls You will probably find that it is the hamburger/chicken mince.

ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to laffi's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
As Vickie has said keep a close eye on her, did you get the head out as well?. -
Contact Plushpuppy, explain that you would prefer to purchase from a retail outlet and can they please give you your nearest supplier
-
Petshops, especially the larger ones, may stock it, look out your yellow pages and give them a call If you are not too far from a State Canine Club show grounds there are usually mobile grooming supply vans at the showgrounds esp if there are big events on e.g. the Spring Fair in Sydney this w/e.

Filtabac is both a sunscreen and anti-bacterial cream for animals. However they can lick it off unless wearing an Elizabethan collar. Covering the entire run may be the way to go.

My understanding of the franchised operators, e.g. Aussie Pooch Mobile is that they bath the dog and that's it. I had my own business and always gave the dogs an all over brush BEFORE bathing. If the dog had any tangles, matts then they would be dealt to.

Gather that you have sent Dr Dodds a full history of what has been happening in regards to Benson? She is obviously an expert and has pointed out that Goldies are particularly susceptible to the autoimmune form of thyroid disease, which gather the T4 doesnt necessarily pick up?. Am sure your friend would understand you want to get to the bottom of what is happening to Benson, its being going on too long. A little OT but going back over Panda's notes. He was seen by a Dermatologist on 28/11/07 who diagnosed Follicular Dysplasia. The symptoms he had were in fact indicative of a Thyroid problem. He was not tested at this time. He eventually saw a Cardiologist at the end of June who recommended T4 and this was the cause of Panda's problems, he is a very different dog to what he was 7 months previously. 7 months of wondering what was happening to my boy could have been avoided had he had the correct tests done in the first instance.

Purchase a spray on conditioner from the supermarket which has a UV content and dilute with water. If the nose is a problem, filtabac.

Unfortunately the previous thread has been deleted and it would appear that I too have deleted my info Panda was on Nicotinamide and one other drug beginning with 'T", am going back 5 years here. Speak to you vet about the Aristocort cream. We have had no signs for four years. Must say we were worried about him coming to QLD from N.Z. due to the UV but it hasnt been a problem.

Panda has had discoid lupus, here is a link to a previous thread. Unfortunately I cannot open the link in that particular thread which I posted which contains some informative information which I received from a Vet at Texas A&M Uni. Perhaps you can pm Troy and ask if he can retrieve it for you. Panda was on prednisone for a short while but as he was a young dog at the time he had it the vet he was under took him off it at my request. What did eventually work was Aristocort, a human cortosteriod cream. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...l=Discoid+Lupus

By your descritpion it would appear that your dog has thrown to the poodle coat esp around its face? Suggest you take it to a groomer, have a chat to them about styles etc, it may be that it needs a poodle clip around the face which is best done by using clippers and a fine blade. My Mum has a poodle and she is done every 6 weeks.

Cant put my hands on Panda's file atm, b***** filing system. First noticed Panda's skin colour had gone a reddish brown and his coat was sparse, esp around the rear end late Nov. Thought it may have been jaundice. Must admit didnt do much about it to start with, had a lot going on with my cat who was not well (had him pts in Jan) and had had an accident myself where I fractured six veterbrae, and a new puppy, a lot to cope with. My regular Vet was not at the initial consult, the vet who was has since left (we wont go any further on that subject). Panda saw a dermatologist at QVS mid Dec who diagnosed a pblm with hair follicles, he did not do a thyroid test All that money wasted on a wrong diagnosis for the sake of a blood test. All that happened with Panda in the following six months could have been avoided had he had his T4's checked. At one point really thought he was on his way out. What a different dog he is today At no time had he been on either prednisone or cortisone. He was having a weekly bath in Malaseb but now only when his coat loses its shine. F.T.P.O. pm if you would like to chat by email, at least we are on the same side of the country

dogsbesotted and fifi, we took Panda to a SPECIALIST in early Dec due to the coat problems, he didnt bother to do a thyroid test , he then saw a cardiologist in Jun because of heart pblms, it was he who suggested doing a thyroid test.
-
Great news It took six months to find out that Panda was hypothyroid so can appreciate what you have been through He lost 2 kg, his heart rate is great, and cant believe his coat, its back to being thick and glossy, rather than sticky and smelly.

Perhaps lizandel, we are talking two different problems here, ear mites, against dermodectic mange as I was told emphatically by my vet that dermodectic mange is not contagious, I would hope she is right in her diagnosis as the last thing we need are a total of 6 adults and two six week old pups infected.
-
One of mine (14 months) has dermodectic mange (mites), which has caused hair loss around her eys and muzzle. It is not contagious. You can only see the mites under a microscope and they live in the hair follicles. Treatment advised by my vet is Advoctae once a fortnight for three treatments, then once a month for three months. Also a bath in Malaseb to help with general itching all over. Weekly if needed depending on amount she is scratchig. We have not had this problem before and have 5 other adults here ranging in age from 5-11y.o.

Question On Herding Titles
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to RachelleBuck's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
The Herding Instinct Certificate is the first "level", and no you dont receive a Certificate for this (believe it used to be called the HIT). The next step is the Herding Test, and from this level on you can apply to the State Canine Control Bodies for a certificate at which time you can add to their names. e.g. Hesa Panda Bear HT, PT etc etc -

What Should I Feed My Sheltie?
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to 7point6's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Phew that's one heck of a diet We have up until recently always fed Nutro, but its no longer avail in Aus We have tried Orijen but it gives a couple of them sloppy poohs and wind. They are currently being fed Ziwipeak. They get a biscuit at night, and weekly a tin of sardines. We get our biscuits from http://www.polapaws.com.au/ecommerce.php?e...rds=&page=1 We have two month old puppies and have a 7.5kg bag of Nutro here so will wean them onto that to start with. You are welcome to join us in the sheltie thread, with piccies of course. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=82604 -
Zed seems to be improving Panda's heart rate is much better, he is now on 1 tablet am and 1/2 pm, will have his bloods checked next week. Have you tried Malaseb for the itchies?.
