  1. As you youself have said, any change of diet should be made gradually, especially with a puppy We would NEVER consider changing the diet quickly, on adults let alone puppies. We fed Nutro for many years and when it was first pulled from the Australian market here we were in a quandry with what to feed. We tried Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance, Orijen and Artemis with mixed reactions from the dogs, and have gone back to Nutro's Lamb and Rice formula now that it is made here. We also feed Ziwipeak. The dry food forms the basis of their diets.
  2. Panda and Skye both had dandruffy skin on Artemis, so we bought a bag of Lamb and Rice, skin has started clearing. We are also feeding Ziwipeak. Cassie has been going through the I can't eat dry stage, but she wolfed down the Nutro Jazz, Jemma and Maddie also eat the Nutro with no fuss.
  3. RIP, Tali. Your Mum has written you a lovely tribute.
  4. When we feed leftovers we take out onions, mushrooms etc.
  5. We fed Nutro (original formula from the US) for nearly 8 years. Since Nutro was "pulled" from the Australian market we have tried Ziwipeak; Origen; Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance and Artemis. They are now on Artemis and Ziwipeak and we are very pleased with the results. The dry food forms the basis of their diets.
  6. borzoimum, I think you will find rubystar is in Aust. WA here stands for Western Australia. (he/she is in Perth the capital of WA) WA in the US stands for Washington State.
  7. Will contact the General Manager of the Co. who used to import Nutro into NZ and AUS, if they still do, and see if he can shed any light.
  8. Thanks, Sags Would be interested to know ingredients in other formulas. It is a crying shame that the product here is being called Nutro, with the same packaging, as personally I feel that with some of the ingredients being included such as corn/corn protein and wheat that it certainly will not have the reputation that the US product has for exclusion of these which was one of the bigger selling points for Nutro.
  9. casowner, would be interested in any information which you may be able to post about Nutro. labsrule, agree with you there, cannot fathom why they would deviate from the original "recipe". If the product is not the same as that imported then it would one would think "stand to reason" that some customers such as ourselves would not be interested in feeding in the future.
  10. Here is the guaranteed analysis from the US product. The US product lists Rice Bran as #3 and Whole Brown Rice as #4, whereas Dried Beet Pulp is #20. You will see that the Australian made product has a slightly higher Crude Protein and Fat content and although the Aus. product states Glucosamine and Chondroitin it does not give the %. There is salt in the US product and although it does not mention the % it is listed in their ingredients as #17. The US product contained no animal by products either, so that is nothing new. One of the big selling points with the US product is that it contained no corn, be it protein or otherwise, nor any wheat. As mentioned previously we fed Nutro for nearly 8 years and were very happy with the results, we are at this stage loath to try the product here. casowner, you appear to know more about this new product? perhaps you have inside information? Crude Protein (minimum) 21.00% Crude Fat (minimum) 12.00% Crude Fiber (maximum) 5.00% Moisture (maximum) 10.00% Linoleic Acid (minimum) 3.50% Zinc (minimum) 250 mg/kg Vitamin E (minimum) 150 IU/kg Ascorbic Acid (minimum)** 35 mg/kg Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA) (minimum)** 0.30% Glucosamine Hydrochloride (minimum)** 125 mg/kg Chondroitin Sulfate (minimum)** 100 mg/kg
  11. This is the ingredients list from Nutro's Lamb and Rice formula, made in the US and which is the original product which was avail here until AQIS pulled the plug. Will be interesting to see what the ingredients are for the other products. Lamb, Ground Rice, Rice Flour, Rice Bran, Whole Brown Rice, Lamb Meal, Potato Protein, Poultry Fat (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Rice Protein Concentrate, Natural Flavors, Pea Protein, Soybean Oil (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Sunflower Oil (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Potassium Choloride, Monocalcium Phosphate, L-Lysine, Salt, Choline Chloride, Egg Product, Dried Beet Pulp, Dried Kelp, Taurine, Vitamin E Supplement, Zinc Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate,(source of Vitamin C), Copper Proteinate, Biotin, Niacin Supplement, Garlic Flavor, Potassium Iodide, Manganous Oxide,Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement (source of Vitamin B2), Thiamine Mononitrate (source of Vitamin B1), Pyridozxine Hydrochloride (source of Vitamin B6), Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (source of Vitamin K activity), Folic Acid, Vitamin D3 Supplement.
  12. The rules changed last year, and my addled brain can't remember as we havent been training since Nov 2007, you can either do HIC and HT in the one day, or HT and PT, your instructor should know In HIC the judge needs to see that the dog has the natural ability. HT requires a controlled pause or stop at the start, two changes of direction, a stop and a "call to handler" at the end. For the two changes of direction think about a figure of eight. HIC minimum is 9mx9m (max 30mx30m) and HT 30x30m, although many HIC arenas are more likely 15x15m. Ask yourself if both you and your dog can confidently move sheep in an arena of 30mx30m, and execute the required changes of direction. Practice though makes perfect
  13. MMM packaging is the same BUT ingredients? Sags, if and when you get a chance, can you please send details of what you know? We fed Nutro for nearly eight years and were very happy with the US product but this could be a completely new ballgame We have been feeding Artemis since the beginning of the month and are very happy having tried Orijen and Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance which didn't agree with ours. We keep Ziwipeak as a backup
  14. There is NO interference from other dogs as only one dog is allowed to run at any one time, (unless as with ours they are all family). Ours all did well and loved the "chase" we havent been since we moved to our "acerage" as we now run a herding facility. Taken from QLD Lure Coursing website here is what the dogs are judged on. Enthuasiasm: Lively, single-minded, showing great eagerness and determination in regard to the Lure. Follow: Chasing the Lure with the intent of taking it while maintaining a path of reasonably close proximity to the lure's course. Speed: Rapidity in moving, credit goes to the dog that levels out low, stretching and really drives. Agility: The ability to move quickly and easily, nimbleness in negotiating terrain.... turning without going wide or cutting and breaking stride, co-ordination of movement. Endurance: Lasting quality, stamina of physical and mental concentration.
  15. Each to his own, Terrorbull, but one can't entirely blame the manufacturers of Nutro for a problem which came about because of AQIS restrictions
  16. Terrorbull, you were probably caught in the betwitx and between when Nutro were having problems with irradiation of food by AQIS. We have been feeding Ziwipeak since Nutro pulled the plug here last year, we are more than happy with the results but its costing us an arm and a leg to feed 8 dogs. We have tried Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance Ultra and not happy with sloppy poohs (our are all house dogs). We are currently trialling Artemis and so far so good since Tues. Would be interested in trying Nutro as we fed the US formula for nearly 8 years
  17. Suggest you also speak to the gardener about Rhoeo (commonly called Moses in A Cradle/Moses in a Basket) Use this link and scroll down to find pictures of Rhoeo. http://www.aspleynursery.com.au/plant%20description.htm

  20. Jed, re Ledum, use this link and click on Heal With Ease, not sure if they sell Ledum on its own, but worth enquiring? http://www.workingsheepdogshow.com/
  21. The CCCQ COE states: "... I shall not sell or otherwise transfer from my care any puppy under eight weeks of age, thus allowing for vaccination to be given at six weeks of age and the necessary fourteen days to take effect..." "...I shal not export any puppy under (12) weeks of age..." Between 4-8 weeks is when puppies are taught by their Mum, litter mates, and other dogs at the "kennel" some socialisation skills. Domestically the age for flying should be 10 weeks.
  22. Sunlight soap has been around for donkeys years Avail from supermarkets.
