Rising Stars For 2011
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to Bilbo Baggins's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thor and Nikki (haven't any recent ones) are now six months old. -
Merry Christmas from us. Can I please add, may the weather improve
-
Miranda, we have eight here now, and though smaller dogs they get through the food We still have 2x 15kg bags of Nutro but really wanted to trail a bag of BH. We did feed a home -made diet for over 12 months together with Nutro but for some reason the last few batches ended up with our dogs getting the runs.
-
We now have a 20kg bag and will start weaning ours off Nutro, let's hope we have the same results, i.e no gas, and firm stools. I don't think their coats could be much shinier than they already are
-
We mixed some sample BH in with their Nutro for breakfast, and their dishes were empty. We will continue with the remainder of the samples and will look towards trying a 20kg bag in the NY.

Getting Oil Into Dog's Diet
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to allie181's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
What did your breeder feed your puppy.? If you have been through 5 different super premium brands, and you are still having issues, your puppy, is I'm sorry to say, spoilt rotten. We kept two puppies from our last litter, who are coming up 6 months. They were weaned onto both Nutro and a homemade diet of minced chicken frames etc. Two months ago we went solely back to Nutro (for varying reasons) and have had NO issues with them not eating. Same goes for our 6 adults. If we feel we need to supplement with oil we use human grade salmon oil and royal jelly capsules. Again we have NO problems with fussy eaters. -
We have been "die hard" feeders of Nutro for over 10 years, albeit initially the US made product. During the time when Nutro was unavailable here we fed a number of other "products" which didn't go down well, (apart from Ziwipeak). We fed a homemade diet also for a year but have now gone back to Nutro. Having followed this, and the other thread re Black Hawk holistic, we would consider changing over from Nutro, but can anyone "convince" us that Black Hawk is the better product than Nutro?. (apart from possibly the cost factor). If that is the case, then apart from samples, how do we source Black Hawk? We are approx. an hour NW of Brisbane.

You Work Full Time
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to ShesaLikeableBiBear's topic in General Dog Discussion
When I worked full time (7.30am-3.30pm) I would either road walk my dogs for a minimum of 1/2 hr, or play ball, in the mornings, so they had some excercise before I went to work. In mid/ late afternoon when I got home from work they would get a minimum of 1.5 hours either in the regional park (off leash) or on the beach (off leash). I am talking here about shelties. Where we live now (am retired) they have access to our house yard where they have plenty of room to excercise. My question is, if you have a "larger" breed working dog, how much excercise do you give it? If you are up at a reasonable hour in the morning, will you give your dog a "stretch" given the space you have?. Do you crate your dog at night, pop him/her into a smallish "area" during the day when you are at work with no excercise?. So on your "days off" on the w/e's, what is most important to you?. Go out for 9-10 hours every day and leave your dog/s in the "smallish" area, come home with possibly 3-4 hours of daylight and leave them in that "smallish" area, or give them the opportunity of a "blat" in a paddock?. -
Understandably during the week you work full time, so you don't have much opportunity to spend time with your dogs. Here in QLD 'though it's getting light by 4.30am. You are generally up by 5.00am and don't leave for work until 7.00am. Given that you have "space" to let your dog/s have a good leg stretch, what do you do? (working dogs), let them out in the mornings into a samllish area, or let them have a leg stretch? On your days off, do you spend time with them, or are you out and about, doing "your thing" and your dog/s are ignored? so much so they they whine/cry for the better part of the day?.

With the festive season bearing down on us and so many other "things" happening such as schools and Uni holidays etc we have decided to wait until March before doing anything more about the proposed book.

Base The Cost Of A Dog On Colour, Why?
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to Kristin Dwyer's topic in General Dog Discussion
We would not charge more for a bi-black sheltie. . -
We were using Plush Puppy and have recently been introduced to Isle of Dogs. We also use Vetadine on occasion as it is for non-specific skin conditions and does not have be to rinsed out.

Pigment Loss On Very End Of Nose
ShesaLikeableBiBear replied to dippa's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Welcome to DOL There could be varying reasons. You may not know that there is an excellent search feature on DOL which you can use to find previous topics on a variety of subjects. It is on the top right hand corner of the page under the advertisement for the dog National Heart Survey (which is in red). Click on search, click on advanced options, type in your subject, and in this case scroll down and click on health and grooming. One topic you could type in is Discoid Lupus which is also known as Collie nose. PS If searching for subjects on your breed, it will be Border Collie, not Australian red border or black and white border. -
We have fed Nutro since 2000, albeit initially the US product. We have had no issues at all with Nutro, and have weaned our litters on to Nutro puppy food. During the period when Nutro was not available here we tried Artemis, Orijen, and Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance Ultra, with not very good results. We also fed a homemade diet but found that the dogs had sloppy poohs. NOT good when we have 8 who are all house dogs.
