Agility and obedience competitor, pet-sitter and german shepherd lover!
  1. Hi stafffyfreak, Its BS. I personally would never use any method or equipment on either of my dogs that I'm not comfortable with. If your not happy with the trainer and her methods, you don't neccessarily need to go to a class (or though if you could find another one that would be great!) there are plenty of GREAT dog training books available to get you started. I'm sure there are people here that can reccomend you a couple. BTW, its great to hear of another youngin' being interested in dog training (I'm 18 myself)! Sonia.
  2. Yes Sidoney that most definitly sounds wise, thankyou  Sonia.
  3. Hi Baileykira, Your new girl sounds very promising  Why not try giving all of those activities a try? You never know what might appeal to you both! Sonia.
  4. Hehe I have always found working on the right very difficult...I've done alot more obedience stuff than I have agility and my brain wants the dog to be on my left. My dog can work on my right just fine...its ME who can't deal with it  Sonia.
  5. Potato can also irritate, I'd lose the potato and swap it for rice
  6. Hesapandabear you have me all teary! Julie-Anne, I am so sorry to hear about your baby. I know it probably doesn't feel like it now, but you will know when it is time to say good-bye. There comes a point when life no longer seems to bring any joy to your furbaby, and keeping her with you is too much for you to bear. When this time comes, you will know it is time to let her go... I will be thinking of you and your girl. *Hugs to you both*
  7. Ah ok, thanks Barb! Hi Liz! I havn't seen you for awhile! How are you, Cleo and Bailey going? We're already reg. with the HCOC (I think its still upto date, have to check as I havn't been there for awhile ). I'm going away to a friend's shack next weekend (last weekend of partying, promise!), but I will definitly come over to HCOC weekend after! Any particular time I should drop by? Hope you and your pups are well. Will catch you soon!
  8. BTW Shekhina, good luck with Kovu and Daegan this arvo!
  9. Hey Barb, I was wondering since you do agility whether you knew if there is a new beginners agility class starting at the domain soon? I was gonna ask Debbie at Eastern Shore Dog Club today if they had one soon (at that club), but I got a call and had to run off quickly before I could ask.... I've been meaning to get my GSD into an agility class since last year, but just got too bogged down with school work and socializing...
  10. NILIF is definitly a good programme to use in order to manage behavioural problems
  11. I feed my dogs kangaroo meat quite often and they love it! The kangaroo meat that you buy in supermarkets and at the butchers comes from stock that been bred and raised for the meat market. For this reason, worms etc are controlled. However, wild kangaroos are infested with a tonne of worms, so never feed that to your dog lol. Kangaroo meat IS low in fat, but is VERY rich in protein and Iron. For this reason when dogs are fed it the first few times it can cause terrible stomach upsets. So when introducing dogs to kangaroo meat, do it slowly, over a fort-night or so. Sonia.
  12. I really want to feed my german shepherd Innova, I've heard alot that I like about it. But its not available here in Tassie So I feed her Royal Canin german shepherd formula mixed with raw meat instead. Sonia.
