Pitbull Terriers Won't Be Banned From The Suburbs Of Moreton Bay R
RottnBullies replied to GeckoTree's topic in In The News
Just seen It now Lets hope It's not being decided from a people vote and that they do seek advice from the experts Moreton Bay Regional Council has ordered a rethink into their stance on dangerous dogs following a campaign started by the Redcliffe and Bayside Herald. Cr Sutherland called for a review into American pit bull ownership after it was revealed they were the only council in southeast Queensland that has not banned the breed. ``In accordance with Queensland Government legislation, we have some of the most stringent requirements on restricted dogs and their owners, anywhere in the country,`` Cr Sutherland said. ``While we have implemented the strict conditions outlined in the state legislation, our community needs to be satisfied we have got the balance right. I have directed council officers to review the restriction regime in place to make sure we deliver the best outcomes for the community.'' In an online poll run by the Redcliffe & Bayside Herald over the last two weeks, the community has voted overwhelmingly in favour of banning dangerous dog breeds. We asked, "Should fighting-dog breeds be banned?" Of more than 1500 votes, almost 75% have said "Yes". Cr Sutherland said council officers would now be seeking advice from experts in the field including the RSPCA. The review will look at the law in other council jurisdictions and whether council should toughen its restrictions and will be presented to council in coming weeks. Our Biting Back campaign was launched on August 17 in response to an increasing number of dog attacks in the Moreton Bay region. Cr Sutherland had previously refused to ban the breed until they "proved to be problematic", and said the council feared banning the breed would drive it 'underground'. This report is part of the Redcliffe & Bayside Herald's Biting Back campaign, which launched on August 17 in response to an increasing number of dog attacks in the Moreton Bay region. Nobody should feel unsafe on the streets because of irresponsible pet owners . We highlight the issue, provide advice on handling unrestrained animals, and remind pet owners of their responsibilities. For more reports from the Biting Back campaign, follow the Related Coverage -

Well from one 'bleating' dog owner to another "bleating" dog owner ;) .....no point in "bleating" on and on about it here is there MelsieWelzie. I'm off to write my thoughts on the matter to the Premier himself. Not that he would take any notice of any dog owner, but its worth a try. Just to clarify there have been no fatalities In Australia by an APBT

Isn't there case law on this? From Qld? Here are the amendments resulting from the QLD case, I dare say If they choose to run with the AST Is An APBT It can be fought and won Amendments to the AMCDA Amendments made to the AMCDA clarify that the AMCDA's policy intent is to restrict only those dog breeds expressly prohibited from importation by the Commonwealth - relevantly, APBTs but not Amstaffs. The definition of 'restricted dog' at section 63 of the AMCDA has been clarified with the insertion of new section 63(3), which provides that a 'breed' of a dog does not include a crossbreed of a breed. New section 63A has been introduced, which comprehensively sets out what constitutes evidence that a dog is of a particular breed (including a pedigree certificate from the Australian National Kennel Council, or a certificate from a veterinary surgeon). The new section also specifically clarifies that: • if a dog is of the breed Amstaff, it is not of the breed APBT, and • the breed APBT does not include a dog of the breed Amstaff. The amendments apply as if they had been in force from 6 April 2010, in order to ensure that there is no gap between the Supreme Court's decision and the amendments.

I've just been reading of people are In tears as they fear their pet Staffies will be put down. Have they any Idea what all this Is actually doing to people....... It's going to be a long emotional and heartbreaking month
-
Depends on what they're going to be coming up with for their visual Id. I would think anything remotely bully looking will be a concern
-
And there could be a flip side to that as well, In where people who have pit types based on looks alone but are actually not, will be registering their dogs as such just to save their lives therefore having to abide by restrictions Very very tragic for many how ever we look at It I think
-
I believe there are no markers yet for the APBT

Link CAMPBELLTOWN and Wollondilly councils are offering owners of pitbull terriers and American pitbulls the chance to surrender their pets in an amnesty until September 30. The Campbelltown amnesty, announced last week, is in response to the death of a Melbourne girl who was attacked by a pitbull on August 17. Campbelltown Council has 160 pitbulls registered but council planning and environment director Jeff Lawrence said there may be more they did not know about. Mr Lawrence said any animals handed in under the amnesty would be euthanased. The amnesty follows an incident in early April when a Claymore man suffered lacerations to his groin after a man allegedly set a pitbull on him after a dispute. Campbelltown Mayor Paul Lake said the amnesty was designed to stop a tragedy similar to the one in Melbourne happening here. Pitbulls are considered to be dangerous dogs under the Companion Animal Act and owners must comply with strict ownership rules. "Pitbull owners must comply with strict requirements, or else face serious penalties or even imprisonment," Cr Lake said. "The amnesty gives pitbull owners an opportunity to surrender their dog to council free of charge, and with no questions asked." According to legislation, pitbulls and American pit bulls must not be sold, acquired or bred. The dogs must be desexed, kept in a certified enclosure, wear a distinctive collar, be in the sole charge of a person over 18, be controlled and wear a muzzle in public and owners must have a dangerous dog sign at their properties. Wollondilly Council compliance team leader David Savage said the council would also hold an amnesty for pitbulls and American pitbulls until the end of September. "There are currently 12 pitbull-cross-type dogs registered in Wollondilly shire," Mr Savage said. But Camden Council will not be joining in with an amnesty, council environment and health manager Geoff Green said. Mr Green said there were only four restricted breed dogs registered in the Camden area. It's already spreading

Even so, how many will have the funds to fight It I fear many will just be giving them up, I honestly feel so sick thinking about It
-
But everyone knows what went down In QLD, surely they can see that It will be fought on the same grounds Unless they're planning somehow for It not to be contested In any way? Can they do that?
-
Yes It was thrown out In court, why would they be attempting It again ?
-
if she is registered my understanding is that she can't be seized. If they decide she is a PB (she doesn't look like one, which seems to be the test!) then she may need to wear a muzzle outside your property, and be on leash only. You have no idea what they are using to Identify a cross breed, In their eyes It may look to them as a Pit X I'm sure It's been proven before when a dog resembled a Pit Type was actually not, but only because parentage of this dog was known. How many will know the true parentage of their crosses to defend themselves
-
So now they can Identify what Is the make up of a cross breed! i would like to see what these guidelines are, heck I think the rest of the world would too!
-
Same thing happened with my Rotti girl, no milk though that I noticed, and people kept asking If she'd had a litter, I felt horrible as she was just a pup as well

How Many Pit Bulls Are There In Australia?
RottnBullies replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
Your post made no sense, but there Is no such thing as lock jaw There are no more dual registered dogs being allowed to be newly registered, as of I think a year or 2 now
