The next bill to pass In Vic Is the stricter penalties for owners, so they know It's a people problem, It would just be common sense for them to get some sort of campaign going as well to actually help prevent It all from happening In the first place. And yes I often wonder do those letters actually get read I'm sure some even do read threads such as these on forums, but are they actually listening may be the biggest problem I feel. As you said Tap they end up doing what they want anyways. We could sure use more animal loving people In Parliament In the right areas

I'd also like to see some responsible pet ownership type adds run on tv during prime time, why can't the government throw money Into these types of things rather than spending money on a killing spree. Have there ever been such adds? Surely this would be one of the many steps In the right direction addressing the situation. Also a national wide type Org set up which can be the bigger voice for all dog owners, Including lawyers on board who are willing to dedicate some of their expertise and time In fighting these kinds of legislation

I thought about general but I honestly think It would get lost there, and no body seems to go Into the BSL section either these days anymore Here Is a Letter Template that can be of use, It's geared towards the States but It can be changed/added to, to suit here (TO:..insert name here) (address) (city, state, zip) (FROM:..Your name) (Your address) (your city, state, zip) Dear (insert name here): To be useful, legislation must be effective, enforcible, economical, and reasonably fair. Recently, a bill (CITE BILL NUMBER HERE) has been placed before (RELEVANT BODY ie., city council, etc,)that would fail all of these tests. This legislation is motivated by fear and lack of relevant knowledge. . The media and the inexperienced would have you believe that these breeds are vicious and should be prohibited. However, these very breeds as a whole have proven their stability and good canine citizenry by becoming 'Search & Rescue dogs, Therapy dogs working inside hospitals, professional Herding dogs and family companions for years. Our Country was not founded on the restriction and punishment of the masses based on the actions of a few....when has this changed? A five year study published in the Cincinnati Law Review in 1982, vol. 53, pg 1077, which specifically considered both Rottweilers and "pit bulls", concluded in part that: ..statistics did not support the assertion that any one breed was dangerous, ..when legislation is focused on the type of dog it fails, because it is ... unenforceable, confusing, and costly. .. focusing legislation on dogs that are "vicious" distracts attention from the real problem, which is irresponsible owners. In light of this and other studies, we urge you to take the following actions: 1. Reject the current legislation, which is contrary to fact and distracts from the real issue, that of responsible ownership. 2. Actively pursue legislation that would render owners liable for the actions of their pets, such as a good non-breed specific dangerous dog law. We suggest that the appropriate policy should be "blame the owner, not the dog." Owners can and should take responsibility for their pets. Bottom line: the legislation proposed will not only be unfair for responsible citizens but it addresses the wrong problem. Voting for this proposal as it stands only harms the law abiding responsible dog owner. YOUR NAME

I thought It may be a good Idea to start a thread, on what we can all do to try and help this situation. I honestly think this Is now bigger than just a Pit Bull problem and getting to a very bad point for all, and every dog loving owner needs to step In. I just don't know where to start, so maybe collective thoughts on how we can all chip in. Maybe we can post things such as templates for writing letters, e-mail contacts to who Is best to contact, or any other useful things that can be done etc. I don't know just thinking aloud here and very very scared at what Is happening as I'm sure many others are as well Please contribute whatever you can as I know not everyone Is great at putting letters together for starters I hope It's ok to post It here as this Is where It's all happening but will move It elsewhere If you think It may be better Thanks NB: Please If you don't have any positive thoughts to add on this post, don't comment. Much appreciated

Federal Government Agrees To National Ban On Dangerous Dogs
RottnBullies replied to cybergenesis's topic in In The News
Canberra's closer. I'm pretty confident the ACT won't get on this bandwagon. I don't know anymore, they are pushing for It to be national, how will they cope If being pushed I'm beginning to think they will surrender, I really hope not but this has now made me lose that hope that It wouldn't -

It could very well end up like It did previously In Italy, where so many breeds were on the BSL list Off course they eventually removed them all when they realized It didn't work! -

Pit Bulls Dumped And Found Wondering Streets
RottnBullies replied to skyesblue's topic in In The News
Hey, with a few exceptions, greyhound owners have been forced to walk their dogs with a muzzle for years (and they know the dangers of letting them off leash). You don't hear them complaining ... I don't think you actually thought about what you posted there, but there Is no comparison... at all -

Off course they're pit x, what with their new standard to Identify them now, what else can they be Shame on you Victoria, look what you have done! Putting the onus back onto the dogs owners Is all they had to Implement, Instead of witch hunting and slaughtering countless of Innocent dogs! And ffs! when are they going to get It right, by classifying a dog doing no wrong In It's own back yard based only on looks being declared a DD, what Is the point of RB when It isn't being used! Using these terms willy nilly shows just how much they have no fn Idea what they're doing! And to all those people locking out their dogs, may they all rot In hell! R.I.P poor dogs ETA -
Council Shocked As Dog Owners Offer Pit Bulls For Death
RottnBullies replied to silentchild's topic in In The News
If that be the case, which I still doubt, why not take them to your own vet and have the dog pts by your own vet? Why drop them off at a strange council pound where they would be frightened and confused and killed In the arms of strangers! I'm sorry but you owe the dog that much Sorry I'm very upset by It all, so I'm not being rude just deeply sad and angry I love the way Vic, tags RB's and DD dogs as the same a RB Is just that a restricted breed It's not a dangerous dog! -
Council Shocked As Dog Owners Offer Pit Bulls For Death
RottnBullies replied to silentchild's topic in In The News
What's the bet all these dogs did no wrong, but owners too scared now because of all the media hype that's going on This Is beyond sad It's downright tragic!, and to be honest If these people were so ready to condemn their dogs to death, they shouldn't even own a dog full stop! -
so agree. So how do we do It, It certainly would make a big Impact And It will certainly put the media as a whole to the test
-
I don't have a link but It's readable by clicking on the pic
-
Honestly you'd think they'd get It by now, It's not the dogs It's the owners....how hard Is It to see this, school children would have worked It out by now!

Poll On Yahoo - Should Rottweilers Be Outlawed In Australia
RottnBullies replied to TrinaJ's topic in In The News
PossumCorner have you seen this article? I posted It In another thread, seems some do take notice to polls Moreton Bay Regional Council has ordered a rethink into their stance on dangerous dogs following a campaign started by the Redcliffe and Bayside Herald. Cr Sutherland called for a review into American pit bull ownership after it was revealed they were the only council in southeast Queensland that has not banned the breed. ``In accordance with Queensland Government legislation, we have some of the most stringent requirements on restricted dogs and their owners, anywhere in the country,`` Cr Sutherland said. ``While we have implemented the strict conditions outlined in the state legislation, our community needs to be satisfied we have got the balance right. I have directed council officers to review the restriction regime in place to make sure we deliver the best outcomes for the community.'' In an online poll run by the Redcliffe & Bayside Herald over the last two weeks, the community has voted overwhelmingly in favour of banning dangerous dog breeds. We asked, "Should fighting-dog breeds be banned?" Of more than 1500 votes, almost 75% have said "Yes". Cr Sutherland said council officers would now be seeking advice from experts in the field including the RSPCA. The review will look at the law in other council jurisdictions and whether council should toughen its restrictions and will be presented to council in coming weeks. Our Biting Back campaign was launched on August 17 in response to an increasing number of dog attacks in the Moreton Bay region. Cr Sutherland had previously refused to ban the breed until they "proved to be problematic", and said the council feared banning the breed would drive it 'underground'. This report is part of the Redcliffe & Bayside Herald's Biting Back campaign, which launched on August 17 in response to an increasing number of dog attacks in the Moreton Bay region. Nobody should feel unsafe on the streets because of irresponsible pet owners . We highlight the issue, provide advice on handling unrestrained animals, and remind pet owners of their responsibilities. For more reports from the Biting Back campaign, follow the Related Coverage -

Wonderful so you're going to report a dog, which Is probably any breed as anything and everything Is looking like a Pit Bull today! for no other reason other than It was playing oh sorry mauling were your words! and Contained In It's OWN back yard! You have no idea how this dog was raised and yet you're making some pretty serious accusations -
That poor white dog looked utterly terrified. Be at peace, little one. Yes Sheridan, I felt so sorry for the white dog with the eye patches. Very very sad. x 3 It breaks my heart for every dog that walks through that cemetery
