  1. Not along ago I read about a young dog who died from having a ball lodged down his throat, he was only a young boy It just broke my heart seeing his pic It happened so quickly and vets could do nothing to save him Haven't tried the orbee balls will look It up, like the Idea of It being on a string too, no more slobbery hands! Thanks The staffy ball? I think It Is, looks like It'll be pretty tough and longer lasting but It's too big and I know she'd lose Interest real quick, was told there Is a smaller version but I can't seem to find It
  2. Thanks guys, It was pretty scary and I remember reading about a few dogs having problems with them so I was weary but the size of It I guess put me In a sense of false security that It wouldn't happen. OsoSwift that's freaky getting lodged down his throat ....the ball she's using atm Is a solid rubber one, hasn't lasted very long at all, so am on the hunt for a more robust one So any more suggestions would be most welcome
  3. I know this has been mentioned before, but after my experience I thought It's worth another mention. I've been a faithful kong user with my dogs for many years, but a couple of weeks ago It all changed when It got stuck In one of my girls mouth and she couldn't get It out and neither could I I've always used the extra large blk ones and just became to complacent I guess. She had chewed that top section off which then made It a little smaller and It had never been a problem before but Instead of grabbing onto It sideways she grabbed It lengthwise and that's when It got stuck between top and bottom fangs, I just couldn't pull It out and It was starting to distress her, Immediately the horror was running through my mind that she was a gonna and that I really needed to haul her over to the vets, I don't know how I did It but after what seemed like an eternity I did manage to unwedge It, she was fine but my fingers weren't too good for a while but who cares It was out. It immediately went to the bin and It still gives me shivers thinking about It, but I'll never use one again, much to her horror as she loves her kong, but I ain't going through that again ever! Here she Is now content with a tatty ball, and I think she's forgotten about her beloved Kong
  4. +1 Make that +2 But we knew this all along! Hopefully he'll make a full recovery, and probably lucky he didn't suffer with a heart attack from It. I think 1/2 L Is a fair amount for an elderly to lose, my dad Is roughly that age and I Imagine he wouldn't fair too well with that kind of blood loss ETA: Coz I was one track minded at first post
  5. Much like where yours has been! Welcome back do4dogz... It's been a while
  6. Absolutely, just just coz It says faux fur doesn't mean anything, to be safe I don't buy anything with any fur what so ever I think It's just horrendous to keep doing this when so other many other materials are now available, any one would think humans still live In the dark ages and they need to continue this practice as being a necessity of life
  7. I have ;) ......It's being shared a lot by all, Lol couldn't stop laughing and If It busts just one myth for one person, It's done Its job!
  8. Taking the piss out of such a topic Is In really bad form............but what can I say or expect from some folks here on Dol
  9. If you can't tell the difference from a happy dog to one who's being aggressive, then you've got some serious problems imo He ended up having surgery for a deep stab wound so understandable In owners choice of words describing It I'm sorry but the cyclist sounds like a fn fruit loop And his excuse In stabbing the owner too was??? If we want to be picky then maybe rider shouldn't have ventured Into a dog friendly area, If he was concerned about dogs running up to him, I guess It works both ways don't It!
  10. How did It go to from dog ran up to another walker to dog rushed at another walker Aren't they 2 different things especially In the eyes of the law? Or Is a dog running towards someone automatically considered Rushing?
  11. I agree, there's just no excuse for the overkill, It's just getting beyond a joke what a dog and his owner have to put up with these days
  12. Lovely pics! Well done on all your efforts with your 2 boys, personally I don't think It's a matter of It can't be done, but more that It Is hard to achieve and keep the peace going without lots of hard work. I really also think It depends a lot on the Individual dogs themselves. I ran 2 male Dobes 1 entire 1 de sexed together without any problems their entire lives, I even used to be able to give all 3 of them a female as well a large marrow bone each and they would sit there all day chomping without any problems... did It for years. My current pack on the other hand Is shameful compared to them Keep up the good work with them, look forward to updated pics
  13. Sorry OT.....but this really broke my heart. What hope Is there when the law protects criminals, even though this one paid with his life but he also destroyed another family In the process
  14. They are banned/restricted because Australia Is a land of sheep, and they followed suit with the British
  15. I never said you called all big dog owners idiots, just that all sizes and breeds of dogs can have idiot owners. We need to concentrate on the problem and instead of banning breeds which just makes them more attractive to the people who want tough, illegal dogs deal with the owners. Make it compulsory to do obedience courses, make it so instead of registration, dog owners have to go through a course and get a license. Regulate owners not dogs. And then if your dog attacks a human or another animal unprovoked you get charged and your license suspended until further notice. We need to be hard with the people who allow their dogs to do these things. Sorry, but I disagree. You are asking ALL dog owners to pay the price for those who are irresponsible and instead of BSL,we end up with all dogs ownership being restricted. and the "black market" extending to all dogs. Education in dog ownership and responsibilities is badly needed now. This is partly because dog and their care are already marginalised here in Aus. Peoples experiences with dogs is limited.Further restrictions on ownership would only be a self perpetuating cycle. The current laws should be enough if they were enforced properly. If thats not working, why would more legislation work. So can you tell me why RB owners are the only ones who have to pay the price for Irresponsible owners? bare In mind Irresponsible owners come attached with many 'other' dog breeds not affected by BSL Another case of I really don't care about RB owners as I don't own one and It doesn't concern me!
  16. Diane Jessup actually has over 60 working titles (inc SchH and ring sports), has trained working guard and police dogs, and is an expert witness on behalf of police k9 units. I've enjoyed your latest incarnation the most, entertaining at times, but don't push your luck. The story behind this thread illustrates why we ought to take dogs seriously. I speak on social aggression Aidan2 and someone saying what I say is wrong dropping Diane Jessup name. I don't knowing her standing on the social aggression but I know the Dr Helmut Raiser standing and work on his principal for many years and have attending many of his seminar and training schooling. If the Diane Jessup has different value on the social aggression good luck to her, I go with how Raiser teaches working drive and denonstrate on the field for your eyes to see ok? There is plenty of theory on the dog and plenty of experts oppose each view what is right and wrong toss a coin maybe, but what I writing is on my opinion from the leash in my hand, is not rewriting of someone idea I am thinking sounds good to me. I working on aggression most of my life and reading some work from aggression experts and thinking I am knowing 20 dogs this method not working for the psycho on this dogs, so if this expert I may disagree is my right for opinion yes? Joe Having a different opinion on how one trains their dogs Is one thing, but belittling another fellow trainer on a public forum Is another, one whom I might add has a hell of a lot more experience In the APBT than you ever will... You've certainly lost my respect and I won't be reading any more from you And lastly........ this here Is absolute rubbish! I don't know which anti BSL people you're talking about, but that Is clearly not the sentiments here! Lo Pan Is right:
  17. I never said you called all big dog owners idiots, just that all sizes and breeds of dogs can have idiot owners. We need to concentrate on the problem and instead of banning breeds which just makes them more attractive to the people who want tough, illegal dogs deal with the owners. Make is compulsory to do obedience courses, make it so instead of registration, dog owners have to go through a course and get a license. Regulate owners not dogs. 4 Pitbulls Maul Us Woman To Death is the title of this thread. Pitbulls have the capacity to kill one of my little ones in a second. If 4 little dogs came charging at me, I would be able to defend myself, I've got feet, I can kick and punch them. My dogs do not pose a threat, nor are they intimidating in the slightest, unless you've got a phobia, why should I have to go to obedience so people should be aloud to walk around with intimidating dogs that from my experience have almost killed one of mine? Ahhh ok I see so it is ok for little dogs to be running around hassling people off lead because we can just kick them away??? I doubt the owners would be happy when their little off lead dog ran up to my on lead dog and got bitten. People are allowed to walk around with "intimidating" dogs now. Pitbull's are only 1 of many "intimidating" breeds out there. twist what i'm saying why don't you, i'm out of here, can't be bothered once people start twisting my words!!!!! Best thing you've said all day! I for one will not be bothered by your attitude or anyone else In here for that matter, It gets tiring having to defend your breed constantly from people such as the likes of yourself who Intentions are questionable! And for JoeK I'm not wearing rose coloured glasses, and neither are all the responsible bull breed owners out there. Responsible owners know exactly what their dogs are capable of, and they do their darn hardest not to set them up for failure unlike the rest of them who keep bringing these breeds Into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. You are targeting the wrong end of the leash Any large powerful breeds In a pack situation such as In this case, with owners who don't give a damn could have yielded the same results, as has already happened before. It only takes one to start them all off Into an attacking frenzy This Is not a ( Pit Bull breed) Isolated only problem
  18. I guess If you keep telling yourself this It seems to make It more acceptable!, I don't think this Is a good argument for the In favor group So what is your alternative for the dogs that have no homes, do we drop them all at your place? Are one of this that think this is cruel in any way? I keep asking people who claim it causes suffering but none of them can answer me about the suffering part. I'll spell it out again. If a dog is going to be PTS anyway then I cannot see what is wrong with using the body. They are not being PTS especially for the vets. Of course I hate the idea that they have no homes in the first place, but since they are being PTS then make the best of it. What is your alternative to the thousands of dogs being PTS daily? If you want to blame someone then dish it out to the owners who put the dogs in there in the first place. I do not have an answer to the alternative of what happens to dogs with no homes, but that doesn't mean I have to like the alternative that Is being used now The fact that Is kept being mentioned that "They were going to die anyway" just doesn't sit right with me. Oh and off course I do blame the owners that put them there In the first place, but It really isn't much consolation to those poor dogs now Is It and that be whatever their fate Is once they're In the pound All I can say Is I look forward to new and better methods that will no doubt come In time....
  19. The APBT was bred for lots of things, and not just to fight In pits like almost everyone wants to slam them down with at every opportunity What Is your point, this Is not about the dogs breed It's about Irresponsible owners, who continue to let their dogs down and the dogs ultimately paying the price and In this case a human as well.
  20. I guess If you keep telling yourself this It seems to make It more acceptable!, I don't think this Is a good argument for the In favor group
  21. Ex Vet Nursing [ No Qualifications, on the job training] Ex Pet Sitter Ex Rescue [ Will still help when I can ] Slave to 4 Very Demanding Mutz........ Current Some obedience and schutzhund training with current/previous dogs
  22. You can keep them, I think you may need them more I never said balance and education Is a crime. This Is a topic I'm not getting too Involved In, I don't like this practice, but In some way or form It's needed till something else can replace It I guess So what Is my point, my point Is I HATE THAT PHRASE! pretty simple really, maybe people can use something else to get your point/ statement across
  23. It's not any better......But I'm not taking sides here, I'm just over hearing that phrase! If people with strong compasions cause problems then It's only logical that people with no compasion do too! It was a pointless statement to make In the first place
