She certainly is...any ideas traditionally how bad spindle cell tumors can be? I'm just glad that the wait is over and that the results aren't entirely bad....my other half was in tears when i was telling her and i must admit i was abit teary as well...not out of sadness but relief and happiness more than anything else. It is something that we will have to closely monitor though and i want to talk to the Vet about follow up and management etc

Hey Everybody, well i received the Pathology results last night...as i was in Albany for work i couldnt post the details on here...It was good news, and not so good news but it wasn't entirely bad news...copnfused yet? Tasha's leg lump was fine....it was a hormonal growth. Her vaginal mass was a malignant spindle cell tumour. That's the not so good news...the news which is better is that the vet, the pathologist and the oncologist are satisfied that the tumour was fully removed at ressection and there were no tumor cells in the 'stalk' of the tumor. The tumour was also graded as low. The Oncologist felt that there would be no benefit, based on the pathology results, in spaying her at this stage but it is something that i want to do either way...so even though the result wasn't the best one the fact that it is a low grade tumour and the fact that the Vet, Pathologist and Oncologist are confident that it has been removed fully without metastacising is extremely encouraging, all parties said that there is no need for further treatment although the pathologist did feel it would be of beneift spaying her.... I have a follow up with the vet on Tuesday where we are going to discuss a few things....i'm set on her getting spayed and i want to see if there are any other ways i.e. x-ray/lymph node test, to ensure that there is no tumor cells present....

Thanks Rusky, it is appreciated all of the support that you guys have thrown my way....I must admit Tasha is certainly a lot happier after having that tumour removed cant blame her really after having something that size removed from somewhere where tumours shouldnt be growing!

Sorry Silverblue, again i didnt mean it as a personal attack against you please don't think i meant it that way....honestly i didnt...i agree spaying is definitely something that should be considered for the long term health of your pet. Look at me! i'm the prime example of an owner who didnt spay his dog and now i'm the one that is going through the guilt, uncertainty etc of not having done that....again i apologise i didnt mean it as an attack against you..i just meant that caslero may be looking for a little support as i know that is what i needed, and still need, when what happened to my girl happened...again i apologise

Showdog, from your experience what % of lumps would you say pose a risk? is it a high proportion? I put up the post about the protruding vaginal mass and yes! i agree i should have spayed my girl and she will be getting spayed ASAP....the benefit of hindsight

Silverblue, i don't want to be mean but i am sure Caslero is feeling pretty uncertain about things at the moment and may even be feeling guilty that they havent castrated their dog earlier. I'm going through a similar situation with my Malamute at the moment (as can be read in the post "Protruding vaginal mass"...yes, i should have had her spayed a long time ago but i didnt, now i feel upset, guilty, and every other emotion under the sun while i sit here waiting for the pathology results. Hindsight is a beautiful thing.....i must say this experience has certainly opened my eyes to a few things namely desexing your pet as a puppy if you have no intention of breeding with them....having said all that nothing now can change the situation that Caslero is in....a little compassion, rather than beating them up, doesnt hurt....as i said i don't want to come across like i am telling you off but the emotions you go through when this uncertainty hits cannot easily be explained and a little support does wonders.... Caslero, i'm really sorry to hear of the situation you're in at the moment. I hope everything turns out for the best. I'm in a similar situation with my girl at the moment although her experience was a little more traumatic than a lump under the skin (although i did get a lump removed from her front leg for pathology testing just to be sure)....it's hard i know and i know exactly how you must be feeling at the moment. In relation to the lump my girl had a lump on her front leg. I noticed it a few months ago, it was hard, about pea sized maybe a slight bit bigger. I asked the vet to remove it when he had her under for the tumour. The vet told me that as a dog gets older they can form lumps through hormonal changes it is perfectly normal and common...don't be too concerned at this stage. Monitor it and if it get's worse don't hesitate to take whatever remedial action is necessary. You know about it so you can monitor it....if it concerns you then solve the problem now and get him fixed and the lump checked out...all i can say is hang in there. The support that i have received from this forum has been amazing and i am sure you will receive the same All the best

They didnt....apparently the head pathologist is up north fishing...but the vet did say anywhere between 5 - 7 days but it could be as quick as 2 so who knows...she's certainly back to her old self though which is great

Hey everybody, hope we're all well..... This waiting for lab results sucks! Tasha is going really well and is back to her old self. Thankfully she pays no attention to the stitches but i still keep the elizabethan collar on her when we're asleep and when i cant watch her...she certainly has her appetite back...

What would be the fun in that Busted ;) Oh pppplllleeeeeeaaaassseeeeeeee Oh, one to always look on the bright side hahahhaha a lot of lesbians are having children now a days.... Same....and i agree...your upbringing i think is what gives you maturity later in life and it helps shape the type of person you are. Just look at how many super spoilt kids go off the rails later in life (i'm not trying to generalise all kids who have been well provided for in their childhood but there are some kids that are super spoilt) Have you ever read that story about the boy who was raised by wolves? it's a very interesting read....and that's part of the reason Tasha and i are so close....she was my protector a few times when i was a kid and now i'm hers...

Hahahahah well, um, i dunno you tell me oh knowledgeable one ;) I'll just go back to sitting on the fence....it's safer there Oh admit it! you just love watching the men....lonely women or no lonely women :D You talk about it so matter of factly.....you certainly must be one strong woman Arianwen...either that or you deal with things extremely well Then think of the Grand Children you can spoil....and then hand back at the end of the day...that's called justice for all the pain you went through when she was a child You know by you doing that you showed your mum that you love her just as much as she loves you...so it is possible to love your parents just as much as they love you...it might just take them some time to realise that. It wasn't until i was 25 that i thanked my Mum and Dad for bringing me up the way they did....i didn't have the greatest upbringing and Mum and Dad seperated quite a few times but if it wasn't for that i don't think that i would be the person i am today with the values etc that i have.

Hhahahahah i get it now Pampa and Haven, i didnt read your post Pampa before replying to Havens.....hahahhaha what can i say! 26yr old Dog lover who is apparently literate, tall, dark hair, hahahahahha just messing with ya :D (and good morning Pampa ) i'm sure there arent any girls in here that would think i'm a "super catch" Shouldn't be any problem getting your girls in if they go through quarantine..i am sure it will work out well for you. I'm sure there is someone on this forum who is a registered quarantine facility who might be able to help out. The Princess is going very well this evening thanks she's over the groginess and is back to her old self talking and being a comedian....she's certainly loving all the attention. She is a little more placid at the moment so i think she intuitively knows she has to be careful but other than that you wouldnt know anything was wrong. She is also a little more sooky in that she doesnt seem to like being on her own....either that or she knows that she will get pats if she is around someone which might explain why she is following everybody around. There have been some funny moments though with that cone she has on her head! I had a close look at the work the vet did today and it looks great.....6 stitches in her front leg and 6 on the outside of her genital area and there are also some interior....all of the stitches are dissolveable thankfully.

Arianwen, that would do it so not only do you have puppies but you have a human puppy as well and thanks! i reckon she'll be fine as well....although as soon as she has recovered from this surgery i'm getting her spayed but i'm certain that will be a lot less stressful than this. Hey thanks for putting the picture up Arianwen, that's Tasha last night still under the influence and a bit groggy....that patch on her front leg is where the small lump was that i asked the vet to remove. She's much better this morning although she is still quite tired so she's snoozing...the camera isnt the best so the picture doesn't do her justice..i put a sheet on her futon mattress as i figured that the fleecy kinda section that is on it might iritate her stitches a little...I also laid pillows all around it for her so she is comfortable she's spoilt

Hey Rusky, great to see another Malamute owner out there....atleast yours shares mine thinks she owns the house they are just such sociable animals....it's funny! we have some friends who have quite young kids and as Malamutes are pack animals she figures they are her pack (in addition to me and my wife...you should see her with my inlaws dogs! now that is a laugh) Its funny watching her watch over her "pack" when they are playing outside and she takes anything that they throw at her (not literally but you know how kids can be) and she loves it she's a great mum and i fully trust her with kids...Malamutes are such little kids. With Tasha you know when she wants a back scratch because you can be sitting down somewhere, she will walk up to you, turn around, face her back to you and sit right in front of you. If you don't start patting her she looks over her shoulder as if to say "Well? cmon!" they are such characters....does anybody have any experience with being able to let a Malamute off the lead to walk? With mine if you even consider letting her off the lead she would just run..all the training in the world hasn't stopped that sadly coz i'd love to be able to let her off the lead at the park to throw a ball for her. There's so many stories...they really are cheeky little critters :D but i wouldn't trade her for all the gold in the world...you should have seen her nose be out of joint when my wife and i got married and she moved in with me! WOW! jealousy plus! just imagine any affectionate moment and a full grown female malamute jumping in to break it up...do you have the picture in your head hahahahha :D Thanks for your support and well wishes as well Rusky...she's very sooky at the moment and wont let me out of her sight. She's laying down beside the chair right now snoring her head off :p Please do send as many good vibes as you can muster up thank you

Thanks Pampa, your words of encouragement are really appreciated....and thank you for your concern and thoughts...the worst part is waiting isnt it? initially for me though the worst part was waiting for her to come through the surgery ok...it's all relative. I think when it's anything to do with your pets health and they are hurting then it's all the "worst part" and i just know within myself that it will come back benign...plus she told me it was ok last night or maybe it was that half a bottle of whiskey that i shouldn't have had hahahhaah (no, the nurse didnt drink while he was on duty :D )...but seriously, her health at the moment and everything else certainly doesn't point to it being malignant...i just hope her current health etc is a justified basis for assessment The slacker is still sleeping though! i wish i could sleep as much as she does..she just loves the attention :D Pampa, are you originally from Australia and moved to France? There's nothing wrong with being 10+ years older ;) age is all in the head ;) i mean Tasha (my dog) is 40yrs older than me but she acts like a child :p so she must think she's much younger than she really is there's also an aussie saying relating to age but i'll leave that one under the stubby holder for the time being :p
