Positive Thoughts Needed For Dear Porridge
Kelly_Louise replied to MissMolly's topic in General Dog Discussion
DONE - Our prayers and best wishes are with lovely Porridge. I hope she pulls through and recovers well. ETA - she is a stunning girl. -
It is indeed… But thankfully he has survived. I am saddened at some of the comments though… When will people learn… it’s not the BREED.
-
Yep definitely unplug it then... But I think it's a mighty fine excuse for him to be inside
-
I agree... i would want to know that it is the correct medication for the condition, or know it is going to help him, before I was giving it to him on a regular basis. I'm glad you are pursuing other opinions, and I'm glad Charlie is in such good and loving hands. I'm very sorry that you all have to go through this.
-
VERY lucky It's my worst nightmare... Is it possible to have the door fixed so that it can not be opened by anyone else? I'm so glad that you made the choice that kept your fur baby safe.
-
I have no advice, but I do hope that Misty remains happy and as healthy and comfortable as can be for an old girl I hope she still has a long while with you yet. I love the golden oldies.
-
Certainly will... although, I'm hoping they will be useless and I'd much rather that there is nothing to report But that's just wishful thinking

Thanks guys - we are having some pretty special surveillance gear sent over from America, so hopefully they will be up by next week! The only thing they don't have is audio, but tiny microphones can be attached. So we should be all set to go soon, and I'll be able to see exactly what goes on when we're not there (or even when we are!). It will give me peace of mind for Sasha's safety. I have tried numerous times to talk to the mother next door - however, she must have started working again because she is gone by the time I leave for work, and doesn't come home until well after we get home. Last weekend, thankfully, everyone was gone the entire weekend so it was SO peaceful. Really lovely not to have constant screaming, yelling, loud music and making Sasha bark (or out of control parties!). So although I've made several ventures over there, I can't seem to catch the mum... thought about writing a letter but I don't know her name or their last name - so not sure who to address it to so that the kids won't get to it first (although they'd probably be too lazy to bother with it). Although the last week has been incident free and very quiet, we are still going ahead with the cameras etc because all it takes is one out of control incident to destroy property or harm my fur babies. I won't take the chance. Thanks for your support and understanding guys, really appreciate it. Fingers crossed it will be sufficient to deter further poor behaviour.

Chloe has a fluffy, squeaky monkey that she adores. She carries him around everywhere, she washes him and treats him like he is her pup. She also has a little bandage bear that she carries oh so daintily, she takes him to whatever bed she is sleeping in and sets him in the corner where she can keep an eye on him. Monkey and bandage bear are always with her.

Totally agree. Seems being responsible isn't good enough, you must also only own a dog that doesn't react to anything either, doesn't make a sound, doesn't act like a dog. x 2

Yes, I believe that it is going way too far. Soon we will be trying to breed the essence of what a dog is out of dogs - to make the public feel better. A dog is a dog. If it is properly contained, sorry but there is no reason it can't bark and defend it's territory (unless it is an habitually nuisance barker). That's what dogs do. If they AREN'T contained properly - different story. If they are unsupervised out the front - again, different story. Many people have dogs to protect their property and feel safe against the exact same public that we are trying to protect from being afraid of barking dogs. If a dog can't be a dog, to a certain extent - what next? Just ban dogs altogether?

Sasha's Blend And Joint Guard?
Kelly_Louise replied to cornell's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
You probably could do it - but I don't really see the need, and personally, I wouldn't. Maybe try giving only half doses only of each until you feel she is ready to change over to Joint Guard fully? It really won't make too much of a difference whichever way you decide to do it though. I have used both with Chloe, and like both of them - although I now stick with Sasha's Blend. It's more palatable (even though it's a bit stinky for us humans), and I find it is more beneficial for Chloe. Spottychicks idea is also a good one, just add anything you feel is missing as an additional supplement will also do the trick. -
I just whack them in Sasha's bowl however they come out of the tin! She loves them - however, I find if I give them to her too frequently she will go off them. I've reduced it to only once a week now and they are always gobbled up

I'm really sorry to hear of Charlie's continuing health issues. Poor thing has really been through the wars - but seeing he is still happy and relatively normal is a testament to the wonderful care and love he is getting. I second a referral to the ARH at Strathfield. Chloe goes there regularly for her Cushings, and I personally find them to be wonderful. I do hope that you can at least get to the bottom of what is causing Charlie to be so ill - so that you can start treatment asap and Charlie can be back to himself. Not knowing is the hardest thing of all... makes you feel very helpless. Wishing you all the very best of luck in finding the answers.

My Dogs Have Killed A Snake And Eaten The Head
Kelly_Louise replied to Chocolate's topic in General Dog Discussion
OMG - I never realised (thank goodness from not having to go through the experience) that a snake bite and treatment/antivenom could cost SO much! Both of Chloe's orthapedic cruciate operations came to less than your sisters dogs treatment for snake bite -
I'm so glad that everyone is okay. I do know very well what you went through... I watched Sasha darting madly through traffic one day - and my mind was waiting for the sound I didn't want to hear... the thud... We were also very lucky - and I now have Sasha in a martingale collar so that she can not slip it. That day, I had temporarily forgotten that Sasha's fear can sometimes be all-consuming, and that it's possible to slip a tight harness no matter how many precautions you take. Thank you for sharing... I'm sorry you had to go through such a terrifying experience - but it will always help to remind you, and others who will share it with you, that dogs are sometimes just dogs... and no matter how well we know them, we should never let our guard down as it is our responsibility to ensure their safety at all times. Thank Dog you are all safe and luck was on your side

My Dogs Have Killed A Snake And Eaten The Head
Kelly_Louise replied to Chocolate's topic in General Dog Discussion
$2k - $3k for antivenom? Are you kidding? Thank goodness we don't seem to have snakes around us... -
Well his intention was to destroy the bed - and he certainly achieved that... didn't do it half a$$ed. I like how meticulously he has scattered the stuffing.... there's even some in the water bowl! A job well done, mission complete

thank you ... their site is quite informative and their rates kinda cheap, which is a plus! No problems I do encourage yourself or the owners to talk to any behaviourist or trainer that you might go to see first though (regardless of who you choose to go with). I believe not every trainer is suited to every dog/owner. I had one who did not understand Sasha's needs (she was a very fearful rescue dog), but Craig has had experience rehabilitating abused dogs - and he and Sasha just clicked and seemed to understand each other. He has helped her gain much confidence. I think you need to discuss their methods etc as well, if it is something the owner is not happy to use, then it is pointless to see that trainer as the lessons will need to be continued by the owner. Just my opinion

www.premierdogtraining.com.au Feel free to check out Craig and have a chat if you like - he is in the Liverpool area but does travel further out I believe. He has helped me with Sasha, and I believe another DOLer and many in our obedience class.

Oh goodness, bless his furry paws!!! Any improvement is surely a good sign. Not out of the woods yet, but he's showing that fighting spirit which hopefully will hold him in good stead. I'm really pleased this lovely old boy is slowly getting better... I really thought it might go the other way for a while there, but was frantically praying it wouldn't. Good news! Sending big hugs and sloppy doggy kisses Reg's way. GO REG GO!! -
