What a very sad world we live in that none of that is considered to be cruelty to animals... that living in a cramped cage in your own sh*t is perfectly okay, let alone there not being any water, or if there is, it's dirty, that a few pieces of meat thrown into the sh*t pile is considered okay... Have we even evolved? Would a human eat their dinner out of their own sh*t pile? I find it sickening... and it's only when there is a massive public outcry that someone says... "Hmmm, gee, maybe we should do something..." but it will be way too late and will be a slap on the wrist, while those poor dogs live such an awful life. There are just no words to describe the bitter disappointment, and how my heart breaks for those poor, poor animals.

I’m very sorry to hear that nothing more can be done to help Charlie at this stage. I think we all hope that some time soon someone will come up with something that can ease Charlie’s pain for good. Still, he’s not in any better, more loving hands I don’t think – and I’m really happy that Charlie is still happy within himself, and is still being a brave little trooper and enjoying life. That’s what counts J

My Dog Ate Something Totally Grose
Kelly_Louise replied to mrs tornsocks's topic in General Dog Discussion
Word of advice... no kisses... EWWWWWWWWWWWW The worst that Sasha eats is duck and cat poo... however, she's never had the temptation of a pooey nappy... so.... -
I LOVE the oldies - they are so terribly special Here is a pic of my 12yo cattle dog - Chloe. She has Cushings disease, has been through 2 major knee operations, has arthritis... and yet, she will still bounce like a puppy... and she still marches on, regardless of age or injury, regardless of fear. She is the most courageous, loyal and loving dog I've ever met. I can't honestly say what my life would be like without Chloe - I don't want to imagine it, she's my best friend in the world... and the day my family loses Chloe, she will take a huge part of us all. But, year after year she soldiers on... and for a dog who has numerous health issues - you'd never pick she's 12 years old. She has taught me many life lessons about patience, dedication, commitment, loyalty, facing your fears, and never giving up... even when the odds are stacked against you. Here's my lovely old girl. I adore her.

How Did Your Pet Get Its Name?
Kelly_Louise replied to crazyboutdogz's topic in General Dog Discussion
My cattle dog Chloe, in her puppy years, had 'eyeliner' markings like Cleopatra... so when coming up with a name, Cleo was the obvious choice... however, she didn't look like a Cleo - so a few letters changed around and she became Chloe (which suited her to a T). Sasha came with her name... I didn't have the heart to change it. -
I ask you... did she do it?
-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... NEVER!

I would have also attached information to explain WHY you (and others) do not support puppy farmers... might not have done much, but you just never know when you might strike that chord and educate someone ETA - we can only try anyway... But good on you for calling a spade a spade and being blunt.

What do you mean a 'small thing'? It's a big moment for you all... enjoy it! Hopefully you will have many more breakthroughs to enjoy That's great news spottychick... I feel very happy for Tango, who it seems is 'letting go' of his past and relishing his new pack

Gotta love a devoted cattle dog, there is just none better

Erny, I have to admit, it can be a problem if you live in an area where planes are prone to flying over... as many of them leave the vapour trail - and the associated barking can cause a problem for some neighbours possibly (that's my main concern). Not only that, but Deelee also makes a good point is that they can get so worked up that they can hurt themselves or put themselves in danger. Hopefully she will desensitise herself after seeing them repeatedly, or get bored of the novelty. The hard part is you can't predict when you will or won't see them... Distraction is good - I guess it depends on different dogs and what they will respond to. Sasha responds more to a sharp NO! (and then distraction) than to plain distraction - but that's how she is. Some methods don't apply to Sasha
-
I would persue the stat dec if you have been advised to do that. It may not help much, but it might help - you never know. At least you can say you went down EVERY avenue. Other than that, I don't have much advice... but I feel for you and hope it is resolved in your favour.

Anyone Thinking Of Buying A Houndbag?
Kelly_Louise replied to 4 Paws's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh that's no good... they appear to be fairly good quality too, although I've only had and been using mine for a week and have only been carrying my phone and treats. Maybe you got a faulty one? Would be worth contacting the makers I'd say I wrote them an email just before I posted and they've responded - they're going to send me a new one! Great service. -
I have exactly the same problem with Sasha... I thought we were the only ones! If she sees a plane... nothing. If she sees a skywriter or one leaving behind the cloud trails... WELL... she goes insane barking and chasing it. When we first got her, if we were at the park and saw one, she would sit down and REFUSE to move in the direction it was coming from and we had to wait until it was behind us before she'd move (she never barks outside our yard). I think she is scared of them. She also has a fascination with clouds. ;) Her trainer had never seen anything like it... and I haven't been able to stop the behaviour, although she barks much less now because she knows she isn't allowed to (but we've been working on that for about a year ;) ). She is slightly better and doesn't carry on for as long as she used to - mostly due to us stopping her and telling her NO when she was carrying on, but she will still give chase and snort indignantly at them...

Where Are Your Dogs When You're On Dol?

I'm so sorry you lost your beloved Tinka May she rest in peace, and her memories live on and bring a smile to your face. Don't ever feel you are 'replacing'. I went through that. But giving a home and love to another lovely furry soul is not replacing by any means... and I'm sure Tinka would want another fellow dog to enjoy the same kind of life she had. But agree with showdog, don't rush into it and don't make a fuss of him. It will take time for him to adjust, but you need to be a strong leader for him and let him know what is and is not acceptable (even in his grief). My SIL dog of about the same age has started escaping ever since they lost their older dog... the younger one had never escaped before or even attempted... and now no matter what they do she finds a way out. I do hope that your boy will adjust... they adapt better than we do most of the time. Again, our condolences on the loss of one of your furry family members.

Can't blame her... they really do look like fluffy, colourful turds with eyes... And she always buries her toys 'bums up'... maybe makes them easier to pull back out when she's made amends with them... not sure. I have a couple of neurotic dogs

That is one gorgey little man

Wrong response to initial question sorry

Was that post for me? If so the collar was a freebie so no replacement expected. Sorry, yes it was for you! Oh okay, I must have misunderstood - I thought you meant the 'strap/leash' for the bag did not fit -

On Lead At An Off Lead Dog Beach
Kelly_Louise replied to goldenluv's topic in General Dog Discussion
what PF said. Dogs need to be under effective control and having yours on a long line allows that. Having another dog come up to yours uninvited and growl in his face is not on. If it happens again I wouild point out to the other owner that your dogs IS under effective control - their dog is NOT. Yes a leash might change the dynamics but that's beside the point if you are not inviting the other dog over to say hello anyway. I dont trust my boys recall yet and I would do the same thing TOTALLY 100% AGREE! It's what I'd have to do as well (Sasha has VERY selective hearing when it comes to her recall)... and I wouldn't feel bad about it in the slightest. Being in an offlead area doesn't mean it's a free for all for all the dogs. They still need to be under control, and not allowed to randomly invade people and their dogs personal space without permission or invitation... So don't feel you have to avoid offlead areas just because you choose to keep your dogs onlead...
