Where To Start? Confirmed Cushings
Kelly_Louise replied to j's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi J... welcome to our world I'm really sorry to hear of the roller coaster ride you've been having with little Occy. Sometimes, you have to be really patient while you wipe the slate clean and start all over again. It can be trying, I know - especially considering the costs. But you will sort it out eventually. How's his symptoms going for the last month? Do you feel he will be over or under or 'just right' this time in? I do hope you can find a happy medium with his meds soon - nothing worse than the yo-yoing effect on them. He sounds like a real little trooper, bless his little paws. I also understand the struggle with weight. For us, it's one step forward (losing a couple of kilos) and then 10 steps back (slowing gaining it back). But, we do it because we love them. :D Thankfully on her very low dosage, Chloe has remained quite stable (although also looks like she's put on a little weight), which is fantastic and a sigh of relief for us all. Fingers crossed for the results ETA - if you get a chance (and aren't already a member), you should join us over at http://www.k9cushings.com/forum/ They are lovely people who have been there and done that with Cushings, and share the stresses and triumphs with you -
Why? Who does that? What are these people? They certainly aren't human... Bless you Spike, hope you find a wonderful loving new home one day baby.

Ummm... is that supposed to make us feel better about the whole incident? That at least they died in comfort? They still died... which means they suffered... so putting them in a Lifeline bin was a stupid thing to do... what did she THINK was going to happen? Surely she knew she was having a baby for quite a while... and she knew the dogs was having pups... so the money excuse doesn't come into it. She's aware 'apparently' from previous incidents that litters cost money really?? I'm sorry... but even in desperation, there is no excuse for that. And no, I don't think a fine will stop her. Someone stupid enough to dump pups in a bin doesn't learn from a fine.

That's one hell of an ugly upside down shot... LOVE IT!!

Sasha's Newest Weird Habit...

Noooooooo! He wanted a puppy!!! But my persistence wore him down... to the point where if he didn't agree to take on Sasha he probably knew he'd be out the door to make room for her I bombarded him with pics of her gorgey face everyday... until he gave in, and she was my special anniversary gift (the best one EVER). After that, I just let her do all the work... she had him twisted around her smelly paw not long after Here is a pic of her on her new 'inside' bed from Great Rugs! She hated it at first, but now loves it so much it's hard to get her off! Was custom made for her and her gangly legs, takes up most of the hallway... but hey, she's Sasha... -
Opinions Please On Letter To Our Neighbour
Kelly_Louise replied to Nic oh lah's topic in General Dog Discussion
Exactly... but that's why you need to state the facts, and why you have had to resort to writing a letter. It's not just about your dogs. It's about you, your safety, and your dogs comfort in their own home (which they have every right to). I understand you want to keep it friendly... but they do not appear to be getting the message (neither did mine... it wasn't until I absolutely blew my top one day after it happening yet again after several requests to come to our door... and then it got messy... but at least they could see I was serious and very upset this time). You can be blunt without being offensive -

The police may have agreed with you etc... but do you have any records of it? Do they have any records of it? In other words, if it were to happen again and you went to the police - would they definitely have something on file to prove that all this is so and that you did in fact make a complaint.... a statement... a report... copies of letters etc? I made a complaint about my neighbours to the police... the NEXT DAY when I called them about some further disturbances - they had no record of anything. Without any disrespect to the police - there are some very lazy ones who will tell you what you want to hear just to get rid of your minor issues. I got told that the police can't do anything, because it would only make them worse so just let them go and deal with it... -
Opinions Please On Letter To Our Neighbour

Waaaay too much information... and you are leaving yourself very exposed with the references to your dog. I would NEVER write anything about her behaviour or their safety around her. Agree, you don't need to state a reason. I would shorten it and make it very factual. That after the first incident, you verbally requested that your neighbours and their guests do not enter your premises again. It then happened a second time, you have notified police and been asked to make the request official and in writing, so that if it is ignored and continues, legal proceedings can commence. You could also reinforce the procedure they should follow should something of theirs come over the fence (ie, knock on the door, letter in the box or under the door). There are a million reasons that you don't want people entering your yard... if they hurt themselves jumping the fence, if they trip in your yard - that's your liability, OR if they try to steal things from your yard (not saying your neighbours would do that but you don't know the guests they invite to their homes)... It's also a matter of invading people's privacy I feel, and it's very rude. Whether you want to put a simple reminder in there that you DO in fact, have a dog in your yard - but just as a reminder, no other details about her behaviour etc are necessary. I can't stand people that do this... just assume that they have the right to come and go in your yard as they please - ESPECIALLY when they know you have a dog (and ANY dog will be territorial and protective of it's area). How old are these people? You can add a nice note at the end saying that you're sorry you have to do this, but feel it is the only way to ensure that this behaviour doesn't continue anymore - and that you hope they understand and it can be rectified and move on from it. -
Sasha's Newest Weird Habit...

Oh I'm glad that Sash isn't the only neurotic one... I can't believe how they pick up some idiosyncracies or fears... even by association... Just gotta ride through it... hopefully she just needs some time and patience and persistence... -
Sasha's Newest Weird Habit...

Hahaha! Zeddy did the same thing to my ex once... she scratched a bit of skin off her side trying to duck under the back screen door while he was opening it to let her out - so she dodged around him and came yelping to me for sympathy cuddles. Needless to say I still have Zeddy, and the ex is history... lol! T. Sounds like it was a wise choice too. I hope I never get asked to choose between my girls, and my soon to be hubby... Could get nasty LOL!! -

Yes well, you might be onto something there... you're not the first to suggest such a thing! In fact OH, said the same thing the other day when I bought her a new 'inside' bed and made some sarcastic remarks about it (but if she has to sleep inside then she needs something comfy to sleep on!)... And yet, I came out of the shower to see them both cuddled up on it But I try to not pay attention if she carries on if it's just raining... I'm hoping that will work and she'll get out of it in her own time. Once it starts actually raining she's fine... but if it's on/off - stopping /starting she'll carry on!! I gave her some rescue remedy yesterday actually, but didn't really seem to do too much - I think it has some slight effect though. T - Sashy is always okay as long as her Mama is by her side Her leg got caught in OH's shirt the other day and she pulled and cried when it was stuck... so she came zooming through the house looking for me until I told her it was okay and that he didn't mean to hurt her it was an accident. Then she went back to him all waggly bum and smiley. She's definitely a Mama's girl. -
Sasha's Newest Weird Habit...
Kelly_Louise replied to Kelly_Louise's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sasha normally comes in when I know a storm is coming (before it hits) so that she can stay calm. However, if I'm not home - she's associated the heavy rain drops with a storm and just assumes one is coming... and gets very worked up. It's why I can't leave her in the house when I'm not home and a storm is coming. It's much better for her to run around outside than the harm she could come to if I'm not there. It's not being inside that's comforting to her, it's being with me. But now, normal rain sets her off because she just thinks it means storm. I hope she gets over it... -
Is It Right To Change A 7 Yr Old Dogs Name?
Kelly_Louise replied to Chocolate's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think it's doable - but do I think it's right.... probably not. Not that it's wrong either, I just don't have the heart to do it. Sasha was only 2 when she came to us, but I didn't have the heart to change her name. -
Sasha is now afraid of… (of all things)… RAIN. I think it stems from when the first heavy drops of rain hit the pergola roof, she associates it with a storm and assumes that a storm is coming along with it. She’s never been like this before, it only developed over the last couple of months when we had all those storms one after the other. She gets a bit hysterical, races around the backyard and starts scratching desperately on the door to come in because she is scared. I was letting her in (when there were storms) because she is so afraid of storms and it’s better to have her inside… but now as soon as the first drops of rain start hitting the roof she gets scared and assumes she is allowed to come in and starts carrying on. I try to ignore it, tell her to go on her mat. She prefers to sleep outside in the garage at night (it’s a luxury garage with carpet LOL)… but last night when it started raining she carried on at the door. I went outside and told her NO and put her to bed… then she started again, barking and scratching the door… and I went out and repeated it and put her back to bed again. Never head another peep out of her again. But just wanting to know what I can do to get her out of this habit of being scared everytime it rains… or will it just happen naturally if there are less storms?

How does he normally travel in a car spottychick? And has he been to that vet before? After our first vet visit with Sasha, she became a mess... simply from the fear and anxiety... and seeing he's not had the best run of health before he came to you apparently - he may be traumatised by this (add on that it was hot and you've got trouble). Although she does get car sick, I found it MUCH worse after a vet visit. And with Chloe, she is fine going to the vet... but on the return we always a diahorrea episode because she's just been so frightened and anxiety ridden (although OH so brave ). I do hope that he's on the mend now

As much as you can get down their neck before they realise what you're doing Well, that's the deal I have with Sasha anyway... but she's wising up and knows which bottle it is now!

Kelly_Louise replied to slk's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yep... been there done that... it's all part of the joy of dog ownership Hope it feels a bit better soon and doesn't bruise too badly During a storm, Sasha took off and dragged me (literally knocked me off my feet and DRAGGED) across the garage, straight into the steps and dislocated my finger. She has also, on many occasions, forgotten to stop or change direction when doing zoomies and collided head on with various parts of my body... SHE thinks it's all hysterical... PS. I'm afraid to admit, if I'd seen it I probably would have giggled -
Happy 11th birthday Ivan He looks amazing for his age, very beautiful boy!

Oh dear It never ends does it. You hear a nice story every now and then to renew your faith in humankind... but the horror stories are just unrelenting and beat the crap outta you... I do hope this little girl pulls through and goes onto a much better life where this will be a forgotten memory... and to the people that did it... karma baby, karma.

An Apology........why Dogs Land In Rescue

The reality of it makes me feel sick to my stomach... those lovely faces I also like their Tribute to senior dogs too... very very true... one of life's special gifts. -
I agree that the photos SHOULD be published... people need to see what's really going on, people need to see the brutality... most of the time in their streets or suburbs...
