My Friend And Her Dog (a Beautiful Husky) Need Help :(
Kelly_Louise replied to SeeGee's topic in General Dog Discussion
If I was her - I'd put more details and what she is going to supply/arrangements. Reading the OP (and it may only be a small part of the original), but to me it doesn't really read as a request... more of a... (for lack of a better word).... demand? Like she is doing YOU a favour if you adopt her dog? I know it's not the intention - but it's what it comes across as to me. Maybe put in there what costs she will cover, food arrangements, etc... make it sound like she actually needs a favour and is prepared to put in the effort to ensure that everyone is comfortable and to make it as easy as possible for the potential adopter. I'm sure she is, but it just doesn't read that way to me. What a terrible situation to be in though... I wish her luck in having the DD overturned, and hope she finds someone to help Fire. -
Supreme Court Rules On Restricted Dog Breeds
Kelly_Louise replied to myValkyrie's topic in In The News
Exactly, with 10,000 dead dogs (likely more) already because they "looked like Pitties" when all this shit first started..... No reason not to worry about his latest turn of events. The only way to stop this is to end BSL completely. It's a disgrace... -
Supreme Court Rules On Restricted Dog Breeds

I think only in certain council areas... but that does raise a very scary question doesn't it? Anyone with a staffy looking type dog (especially if they can not prove exactly what breed of dog it is) would be shaking in their boots right now... -
There are miniature Staffys? I wonder if either of the dogs survived? I'm assuming they did because there was nothing to say that they had died? I feel awful that these dogs were shot and injured - poor buggers... BUT, the owners are fully responsible and can't cry foul. THEY are to blame, and the poor dogs have copped the brunt of it. If only they'd kept their dogs on their property, the deaths and injuries could have been avoided. Can't blame a man for protecting his stock and his own dog... and I agree, he didn't try to hide it and did the responsible thing and rang the owners and reported it. What more can a man do? I love maremma's... poor pup. I also hope Mr Roper gets hit with a bill... he might really take his role as 'responsible pet owner' more seriously then.

Supreme Court Rules On Restricted Dog Breeds
Kelly_Louise replied to myValkyrie's topic in In The News
In some councils, they can be. Happened that in this specific council (the GCCC) they can destroy a dog if it is "deemed" to be a Pit bull or cross, and I believe it has to have been born after 2005 for the destruction order to apply. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that if they are born before 2005 they are banned from living in the council area, if they are born after 2005 they can be destroyed. The discriminitory world of BSL. -
Signed, Facebooked, emailed and also Facebooked on as many BSL pages as I could manage for today ;)

Big congrats on getting him out of his shell, and for giving him a second chance. It breaks my heart to see dogs go through such tough treatment that they are emotionally scarred... but it sounds like he landed in the perfect home for him to flourish. Well done, and bless you for taking him in. I hope you both have a long and happy friendship, and that he continues to improve.

He is on secondment apparently until August 8th according to the email reply i recieved. He left these two names to be contacted; Nancy Spencer on 300 30588 or Magdi Elhag 322 58649 Their emails will probably be [email protected] and so on. I got that too... but it says August 2009... sooooo??? Not sure. -
Is there a template or something that those of us who would like to help, but don't have all the relevant facts etc can use to send to this email address please? Many would love to help, but don't know where to start or how to help. Has anyone tried to email? It comes back Out of office until August I got that too... but I think it's an old out of office... says August 2009 so not sure if it's a typo, or someone just hasn't taken the out of office off... or perhaps incorrect email address?

Yep... one look at that now greying face... What kind of society have we become?

I certainly hope that other ANKC breeders are NOT of the same opinion as you SBT123 . So if you had your way all dogs that are not ANKC registered would be thrown to the wolves so to speak. I think this is a very selfish attitude, shame on you. I hope you don't classify yourself as a dog lover All dogs bred without ANKC papers have been under the gun for years. Why should the ANKC put the dogs of its own members in jeopardy to save dogs illegally bred by others? We've just seen what attempting to lump all bull breeds in together can produce - disaster for EVERYONE. Illegally bred.. how about ignorantly bred, breeding unpapered dogs is not illegal (though if it was we prob wouldn't be having this convo.).. I understand that the ANKC should put the dogs of its members first but BSL covers all of society, and not everyone is in a breed club and this needs their support too. I hope that people with papered dogs will help people with so called 'mutts' as it is not their fault they have no papers. I have regularly got the impression on this site that all some people care about is the peice of paper that sets them apart fom the rest (or should i say above the rest) i understand where you're coming poodlefan, it's because of BYB and the idiot owners that BSL is here in the first place, and all the papered owners have done the right thing, i just could take the stance of 'who gives a crap about the mutts'. I hope that it can be fought together - not separate the mutts from the registered dogs. Of course there is a difference, but ALL dogs are in danger. I have a mutt - who is council registered as a Mastiff cross. It's not her or my fault that she was irresponsibly bred, it's not her fault she was left at the pound to die, it's not her fault that she had to spend time in a kennel with rescue - waiting for someone to give her a chance. She is a good dog, no less deserving to be fought for than the purebred down the road, and she is no less loved or valuable in our eyes. -
Yes... poor Tango. And they mentioned that the RSPCA has now thrown in their support to 'punish the deed, not the breed'. I can only hope that is true, and they are going to live up to their motto of helping creatures great and small... The story on Today Tonight on Tango made me cry. I can't imagine what this family has been through, never given up - not just for one dog, but for all dogs across Australia. I can't imagine the ramifications... or maybe I just don't want to.
-
I agree... how thoroughly heart breaking. Where is the justice?
-
That is truly scary... and I don't even own either breed. However, it is a very sad day for dog lovers and owners... who knows where it will end, and what rights we will be left with...

Could she be in pain or discomfort due to the leg break and is off her food because of it? Is it healing well, or could there be something that is not right with the leg? I would also be pushing the vet for an underlying cause, but no ideas on what it could be sorry.

On so many levels

Pepi, I'm very sorry you aren't coping... I have a suggestion, and only you can decide if it's something you are ready for, or want to do... just an idea that might help you to take your mind off your sadness. It might not be for everyone though. I had to leave my old girl Chloe with my Mum because she is not well, and needs constant supervision - something I can't give as I have to work. I felt miserable, I felt guilty - even though I spend heaps of time with her, take care of all her medical needs etc - I just felt awful that she could no longer live with me (even though she is MUCH happier with my mum!). It's not the same thing, but I was really torn. But Chloe has taught me many things in life, and I feel I owed her something more. So, I started looking at ways I could help dogs that have never felt the love and happiness that she has. It all started with visiting the forums, then helping to sell raffle tickets, then finally I adopted my new girl Sasha (something I was hesitant to do as I didn't want to 'replace' Chloe's spot in my life). Eventually, when I feel Sasha is ready - I can hopefully become a foster carer. I feel that I am repaying everything Chloe has given me by helping dogs that are not as fortunate as her... and I feel I do her some justice. She inspired me to want to help others that have been dealt a sh!tty hand in life so far. I wish I could do more, and it's something I'm working towards. Perhaps, in Pepi's memory - it might help you to help other dogs who would love to have the kind of life that Pepi had. Even if it's just selling some raffle tickets for fundraising... or gathering items needed for a shelter/rescue org (like old blankets, bedding, toys, something to make a dogs life happier) from family, friends, work colleagues or from people in your street. It might take your mind off your immediate sadness, and feel that you have a purpose and that you are doing something to honour Pepi's memory for his fellow furry friends. I don't know, it's just an idea that might help pull you up from your terrible sadness. I hope you can find some solace, and even begin to smile again when you think of Pepi.

Pepi - it was his time, and I'm truly sorry for your loss. Please don't blame this vet - he has been showing the signs for a while now that his body was no longer coping, there is only so much anyone can do. He was a grand old 15 years... and if he had lived another 5 years, the loss would be equally as devastating, we are never ready to let them go. The fact is - pet ownership is a true blessing, people like us know that... but for all the happy years, there is always one ultimate price to pay when we have to say goodbye to our furry friends. But when you think about it, even through the grief you feel right now, I'm sure you will agree that going through this is a VERY SMALL price to pay for the wonderful life you have shared with Pepi. I'm sure you can think of SO MANY wonderful memories that will bring a smile to your face. That is his legacy, and he will always live on in your heart, and in your memories - and of those who loved him too. Pepi fought a very brave battle, and know that he is at peace now. He doesn't have to fight his way through everyday. He feels no pain or discomfort. And I'm sure, if he could, he would thank you for giving him the life he deserved, for trying right up until the end, for never wanting to let him go because you loved him so damn much. Look back over his life and feel proud for what you gave him. There are so many other dogs that never feel that experience of being loved, safe and cared for. Pepi was very lucky. And think about how he's enriched your life, the life lessons he's taught you... and you will know he will never be far away. Please take care of yourself, we all understand how hard it is. We all would love to give you a hug right now, and lend a shoulder to cry on. We all feel a piece of your pain. Rest in peace and happiness forever, lovely old Pepi.

Do Dogs Get Muscle Cramps/spasms Like Humans?
Kelly_Louise replied to Kelly_Louise's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Ohhhh, very sad to hear... however good that a simple diet change has seen such a big improvement. I never want to see Sash go through that again... Thank you for sharing your experience, it's at least made me less worried that it could have been caused by something much worse (however will keep my eyes on her). -
Next Door Neighbours Kids Throwing Knives
Kelly_Louise replied to Snout Girl's topic in General Dog Discussion
We had to. Things have improved since they noticed them and I told the mum that we'd had to have them installed because their kids and their friends were brats. It gives me peace of mind (I can see what's happening when I'm not there, or that I have evidence should something happen), and I think they are a deterrent at the very least.
