  1. I also lost my old 30+ year old boy earlier this year... and I still cry when I think of him. He left a big gaping hole that I don't think will ever be closed. I grew up with him. I hope Britta can find my Storm Boy and old Danny - they will keep her safe and happy. RIP Britta.
  2. A truly heartwarming tribute to Magnus... what a wonderful dog!! The kind we all hope to own at least once in our lives. To think that he lived such a long, happy life is a tribute to the love and care the special boy received. Sounds like he had just the kind of life that every dog should have. Jed, I do hope you are healing both physically and emotionally. And I hope the constant support you receive here has helped in some small way. I'm sure that Magnus with 'sit' with those in need over the Bridge, as he did in life.
  3. The neighbours at Mum's house continue to throw large clumps of old bread over our fence everyday... which makes Chloe's weight loss difficult. Mum gets up at 4am sometimes to pick it up before Chloe can get to it. But they are so spiteful, that the more you ask them not to do it, the more they do it. It makes me angry that people to do not consider that they may be causing your dog health problems, or don't care about the money and care you have to put in to counter-act their irresponsible actions (ie, just like in the cases above where there are serious allergies going on - they cause so much stress and can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars).
  4. In our little cul-de-sac we have daily get-togethers in the warm weather. People have a glas of wine, a few chips and dips. I am the only dog owner who insists that no-one gives my dog any of the human food, and no sneaky, cheap dog 'treats' either I want to live in your cul de sac Loraine Mine are mostly okay, but have some turds too - certainly not people I want to have a get together with.
  5. Can't STAND people that feed my dog without my permission, thinking it's okay (and then it's up to me to fix up her unsettled, sensitive belly). Some people don't understand that not all foods agree with all dogs... some can eat anything, and no effects... and some, like mine, can eat one wrong thing and be sick and runny poos for days (sometimes to warrant a vet visit). I've put up with alot of things from my neighbours next door, having rubbish, used condoms etc thrown into my yard... annoying and stressful, but I deal with it. But as soon as some food came over, and it endangered Sasha - I marched straight over and ripped into them. I hate people who 'presume' it would be okay to take charge of what my dog should or shouldn't eat. My dog, my yard, my rules. I asked them how they would like it if I fed their dog and made it sick... oh, when the shoe's on the other foot... So yes, when other people feed my dog without my permission - I fly into a fury and can only see red.
  6. He's like the creepy stalker you see in some weird photos
  7. Heavypaws, that's hysterical - I laughed out loud!!! Sasha is a bit of a ninja... she can open the sliding door without a sound, manage to walk through the house and stand right behind you without a tink of her claws, only to scare the crap outta you when you turn around and see the innocent 'what?' gaze and wagging tail... if she could say 'BOO' it would be perfect. On the flip side (and the really eerie side), she can open the sliding door silently, and you won't know a thing until you hear only tick tick tick of claws hitting the tiles... you know she's there somewhere, lurking, and you can look everywhere, but she's like an invisible ninja... nowhere to be seen, but still the haunting tick tick tick of nails...
  8. BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH... this post really did make me laugh out loud!!!
  9. I'll swap you a poo eater for a poo roller??? Chloe dove into something at the park the other day that looked suspiciously like human poo (with an upset tummy) and smelled like nothing I've ever smelled before, and rolled her little heart out. Why do they find such smells so appealing??? I'd rather a poo eater anyday. I'd just avoid doggy kisses.
  10. No, I'm not necessarily in fear of Sasha's life exactly... but what I am afraid of is that she has a tendency to try and pull out of her lead if she's frightened. So, if a SWF is taunting her, depending how bad it is (and we have some really mean ones around), IF she was to pull out and run... she may get hit by a car, I might lose her (which would kill me), a number of any scenarios. So whilst the obvious danger may not be there, there are other just as dangerous scenarios. Do you walk her on a martingale collar? I certainly do now... however, the fear is still there. She doesn't react as badly as she used to - and I have tried to get her out of the hard backward pulling habit, she knows it's not allowed anymore. But still, I have that fear that if she was scared enough, she might try it and somehow succeed. When it's happened to you (she pulled out of a harness after a dog had a go) and I watched her dodging traffic with my heart in my mouth... it's not something you ever forget. The martingale has been a Godsend and has helped both our confidence.
  11. I feel, many people with SWF's make excuses because their dogs are small and refuse to see their own part. I agree that no matter what the size... ALL dogs need manners, whether they have physical presence or not. And with that, there shouldn't be a difference at all regarding size. Just as, the responsibilities of the owner should not be any different, regardless of the dogs size. Dogs of any size can cause problems that are dangerous.
  12. I'm sick of SWF's stalking and bailing up my big dog... Total menaces.
  13. LOL - thanks guys :D And Loraine - DONE! Cuddles delivered with pleasure!
  14. Well a very happy (belated) birthday to you too Harley Hope you had a fantastic day and got spoilt rotten!!
  15. Thanks guys Sashy had a nice day - I think she knew it was her birthday, she was extraordinarily bouncy and playful ALL day!! She got lots of new toys, she didn't know what to play with first - but loved them all. She also got a free bag of Advance kibble from Petbarn She was fussed over, serenaded, kissed and cuddled. She was so pooped, she refused to go the long way on the walk, just wanted to get home for a play, a lovely dinner of her favourite things (cheese, chicken breast, sardines) and then a snooze. Haven't heard a peep from her for a good couple of hours now!! I'd say she's a happy little girl. Happy 4th birthday to my beautiful angel girl :D
  16. It's my special girl's 4th birthday today!! She's been with us 1.5 years now (came from rescue) and she is the most delightful, beautiful, lovely girl I could have ever hoped for!! She is slightly neurotic and has some issues, but none that we can't deal with!! I adore her, our bond has grown very strong - and being my first venture into my very own rescue - well, I'm a convert now. Rescue dogs ROCK!! They are just special somehow. With the wedding prep, it snuck up on me this year... however, I did remember and will give her a special treat on my lunch break - and she will be spoilt and fussed over tonight!! Happy birthday my beautiful girl - I love you very very much, you're my special baby girl.
  17. I've had a few PC problems and couldn't post - but have been reading everyday... and just wanted to say... Welcome back Jed! I'm so pleased to hear you are on the road to recovery I also just watched the interview... what a wonderfully brave woman you are. I don't think anyone has any doubt that if you had to do it again, you would. You said you can't wait to get back to see your furry family... and I'm sure the feeling is mutual. Bet they can't wait to see you too. Best wishes from all of us here for your injuries to mend, for your heart to heal, and for a new start. But I still can't read this thread without the tears coming...
  18. Hi everyone, Just popping in to say hi, and wish Jed a very good healing day today  Those furries must be missing you - so get well soon!!!
  19. I've seen this a number of times... and yet, I still cry everytime I read it. Such basic needs, and yet so many get it wrong.
  20. Yep, I walk Sasha unless there is torrential rain (where her rain coat would be useless), storms or hail. We've been caught out by downpours mid walk - I can't imagine what people must think of seeing the two of us crouched down and huddling under the umbrella to wait it out... I don't enjoy it - I hate walking in the rain... but I feel too guilty if I don't walk her. If I was at home with her all day I wouldn't worry as much... but seeing she is at home on her own most of the day (I do come home for 1 hour lunch everyday though) and behaves so beautifully - I feel it is my responsibility to at least make sure she gets a walk and some outside stimulation everyday - even if the weather is cold, wet and miserable (and usually - very dark and scary in winter). I feel safer walking such a big dog in the dark... I do hope they never find out what a sooky la-la she is...
  21. Yes, that's the stuff that strengthens the heart Thinking of you Jed, hoping today is another good day.
  22. I saw one in a Sizzler restaurant once - just casually lying down quietly, having a rest before it was back to the job I guess. There should be no reason that anyone should not allow them inside a restaurant or similar. They are so well behaved, and their job IS to help their person, they are like their person's 'eyes' - part of them. They are awe inspiring to see though.
  23. Still thinking of you Jed, and hoping today is another good day - with a little progress and healing. Has there been any updates on all the furries and how they are going (especially that little Chi Chi )? I'm very busy at work today and don't have time to read back through the pages... but if there has been can someone post a page # please? Gotta run, but always time to pop our heads in to wish you well Jed, and see how you are going. It's heartwarming to see the waiting room is always full
  24. thank goodness So she ended up in IC - where she should have been in the first place if they'd done their job correctly. It's amazing how quickly they turn around when they are properly treated isn't it? I've dealt with these diseases for the last 3 years now, and it never ceases to surprise me. Your Aunty and Uncle will become more confident in dealing with the meds etc as they go along. It's still so new and overwhelming for them - very hard to get your head around. Once they get into a routine, knowing what they have to do - and what they need to monitor and symptoms to look out for - it will just become second nature to them (like it has for us). It can be very intimidating at first - especially Addisons - it is much more dangerous than Cushings. But we all learn more as we go along. They are lucky they have you for support - and you will be able to research anything they do not understand and help them along with it, so they understand what is happening when certain symptoms present, and how crucial they are. Daisy is a very lucky girl - very lucky to have survived, and very lucky to have such a caring extended family :p Wishing her continued good health ;)
  25. That's very expensive... we pay around $16 - $17 each. We use a combination of Sasha's Blend and Cartophen injections - works a treat for my old girl (2 cruciate operations, and quite bad arthritis in her back legs and one front leg). She bounces around like a puppy most days Have tried Joint Guard, didn't find it as effective - and wasn't as palatable. Sasha's Blend smells fishy, and that is the appeal to dogs. Even my young girl Sasha (who is very fussy) will eat anything with Sasha's Blend on it But, Chloe's specialist told me that they aren't really that effective. He said it's more to make US feel better that we are giving them something that seems to help... when in actual fact they aren't really doing all that much... especially once the damage has been done.
