  1. Hopefully the rain will hold off. Look forward to meeting you BB
  2. Thank you Wayrod for the link. ;) I think this is being done here in Australia, I think there was a thread about stem cell not long ago and I think at this stage it is a very expensive procedure. A bit like hip replacement surgery, that too is expensive. It does however appear to have great benefits due to the less invasive procedure and also the fact that dogs are showing great improvements in a relatively shout period of time. Hopefully down the track this type of procedure will become more common and affordable as it is proven to be beneficial and effective. I think stem cell research has many benefits, the more that is done in this area the better off many will be for it. JMO
  3. Yes it does look like Group 6 and 1 will have a long day. I think I will get there later on and not to early. Lucky for me I only have one entered so that makes it much easier. Hoping that the weather is OK for the day!
  4. Personally I have found most bitches to become a little softer (wanting attention cuddles etc) when coming into season, during and shortly after. They like the extra attention but I have found they do return back to their selves soon enough.
  5. I am sorry to hear that you were treated poorly by the Vet Nurse. I personally am not a fan of the PennHip System. Each to their own I say. Bad positioning can be a make or break so to speak for HD gradings. If you haven't already seen this link, please have a look, it may explain a lot for you and also allow you to see what is good and bad positioning. The Importance of Good Positioning on Canine Hip X-rays ETA: I have a bitch here who has a total score of 28.....11.17 Grade 5, she has 0.0 elbows.........go figure?.She is now (5 years of age) showing signs of her HD, I don't think this bitch will have a long life as I will not allow her to have a life of pain. Having said that I am aware of a number of dogs with higher scores than the mentioned bitch who have gone on to have a long pain free life and who have not showed any indication of their HD. Each dog is different and as such you have to manage each dog according to the physical signs that develop. People say that because a dog shows great movement they don't have HD, that is rubbish and has been proven over and over again, the only way to confirm good hips is by xray only. At the end of the day though, Bad hips are Bad Hips. And as for the cause of HD there are many contributing factors. That is for another thread.
  6. Sadly this does happen and all to often. It happens in many breeds. If you wished to make a complaint it should have been directed to the Show Secretary on the day, not after. This type of thing shouldn't happen as per our rules........all dogs should be treated equally as per the rules and some times it doesn't happen as per the rules, but obviously the judge knew what they wanted. Many a time an age group is given even before the last one has entered the ring or had a chance the stack. It happens....... Chalk it up to experience and make a note of it in your judges list for future reference. ETA: As mentioned it happened at the Sydney Royal. Some judges already know what they want regardless of the procedures and go ahead and award.
  7. Your so right, seriously I need to go back to bed and start the day again!
  8. Forget it I am a week ahead of myself..........thank you for the answers anyway!
  9. Nice pics, thanks for sharing! Forgive my ignorance but what breed are your dogs?
  10. Glad to hear that the breeder has taken the dog back, I think it is better for all involved including the dog. I don't understand why the person has to wait for the dog to be sold and then the money refunded. I hope they do get their money back soon.
  11. That is great Kahlua. Love the oldies...........
  12. I think the concept is a great idea. Until you make people aware that failure to do the right thing (i.e. not picking up) will result in them NOT being able to show, then sadly this kind of behaviour will continue by the minority which in turn tarnishes the majority of us who DO do the right thing. Those that do the right thing will not be worried by the rules imposed, only the ones who have something to fear will be concerned. NOT picking up after your dog has no excuse IMO, and the sooner people are forced to do it the better off we will all be. Like I said those of us who do pick up won't be perturbed by a rule enforcing it. Bring It On I Say As for roaming dogs the same applies, it should not be tolerated. Not every dog is placid or accepting of a strange dog in its space / face. edited because I offended some people with my opinions.........
  13. The Anatolian babies are beautiful Lilli, so very glad to hear that mum now has milk...... What a relief! I am so very happy for you that all seems to be going well now, considering the very long journey you have had getting these babies. Best of luck with them!
  14. Good luck Bad Alice, hope you have a great new life!
  15. I am so glad that you thought to check the float..........what it is with people. I make a purpose to always check the float after being at a dog event. I am aware of many unfortunate accidents / incidents due to deliberate tampering that have happened after people have been at a dog event. The one that really concerned me was the poor people who had the wheel nuts loosened off from the tyres. Luckily it was noticed as they were driving off the grounds. How bloody dangerous that could have been for not only the dogs in the float but the people towing the float and any other unfortunate soul that happened to be on the road at the same time. I seriously just don't get people and their motivation to want to do something like this.
  16. IMO - In this case the dog should be returned for a full refund, less any freight costs, that is the right thing for the breeder to do IMO and also clearly the dog is not happy / suitable in the new environment. As to the reasoning by the breeder for not taking the dog back and returning full refund is beyond me?? It has only been a week.........IMO there is no reason for the breeder to refuse the request given the short period of time. And what is with the "new owner" being directed to having to sell the dog with the contract on it........like what the! IMO the breeder is not acting very ethically at all.
  17. If it was only say within a month or two since the new owner has taken on the dog the then I would refund purchase price on return of the dog, clearly the dog is not suited to the environment. Baring teeth and growling at a child would concern me greatly! Is this an older dog? Having stated the above we have a policy to take back any dog we have bred at any time regardless of the reason. We do not always return purchase price and or part of, it depends on the reasoning for return of the dog as to what if any monetary compensation is paid.
  18. Yes so very true.............sad but true. I feel for the OP...........you won't be the first and sadly won't be the last to find "the dog" that is a pet in somebody's back yard who you can't use for what ever reason........
  19. I don't understand your question? Are you hoping to breed with the dog? or?
  20. Interesting to read about the not so good side of the puppy Insurance, thank yuo for sharing your story Fordogs. I too have been made aware of this behaviour by some Vets who find out that the owner has Pet Insurance, they recommend many procedures that aren't necessary, sad but very true at the expense of the poor puppy and the stress of the owner. Thankfully these type of Vets are not the norm, but none the less it is most concerning that this has and does happen. Sorry to go a little off topic.....
  21. Just received our renewals, they have gone up by about $1 each dog. Our permit went up $2 this year from memory. I can't understand why we as Dogs Victoria members do not get a much cheaper rate than Joe Public. Looks like Tassie is the place to be for dogs, but I now some councils there are not that dog friendly.
  22. Q is looking rather round. The last few weeks will be interesting, thank you for sharing the pics. Now how long exactly have you got to wait........... :D
  23. It is fiction...........this statement or similar has been going around for many years. It it was a problem then I would be in trouble we feed chicken in all forms and it hasn't affected my girls or boys........all of them have produced large litters 10 or more each time. I also use chicken with baby puppies onwards as well so if it did these dogs that have produced the numbers for me would not have as all of them have been raised the same way, I am now on my fourth generation of BARF fed dogs (which includes chicken). Edited for spelling.........
