  1. To those who have contributed to this thread and offered their opinions. :D To those of you who have offered some other ideas to try and keep more dogs in the ring. :D Thank you that is what I was looking for in the responses. To make things clear. This thread is not about having a whinge about not being able the beat the Champions in the ring. The WHOLE point of this thread was to hear what others thought and to see what other alternatives people could suggest to keep dogs in the ring which in turn keeps the numbers that allow our smaller shows to run and survive as well as keeping the numbers up to allow us a future with dog shows. And those of you that have been around a long time will know that the numbers are dropping off and you will also know that we are loosing our All Breed Clubs because of lack of support in both the entries and people to run them. This was once said to me many many years ago......................Criticism is always welcomed but with it you have to offer suitable alternatives. Again thank you to everybody for your responses, it has been an interesting read so far. :D
  2. I think it would vary from breed to breed so I voted other. From experience over the last few litters it will vary considerably. For example my last litter was 9 bitches and 4 dogs, we initially had plenty of quality inquiries for both sexes amongst the many that were not suitable. Had we of had 9 dogs and 4 bitches we could have found suitable homes. Rule of thumb with our breed is that people are after the sex of which there is less about at the time.........go figure..... Having said that I did find it a little more difficult to find the quality homes before they all reached 8 weeks due to default puppy buyers but the ones that took a little longer to find their homes were well worth the wait for their excellent forever homes. I would rather run on puppies and wait for the right homes to come along then to place them in a home where I am not 100% comfortable for the sake of homing a puppy.
  3. Wow so many responses. I think it is great we can all discuss this topic and we all have our own take on it. I put it out there to get a wider response on it and it has certainly generated a lot of responses. I have just wondered what we can do to try and keep Dog Shows alive, the numbers are dropping, so many people have their own ideas as to why, I think we need to start looking at how we can keep our shows for the future. We have all noticed the numbers dropping off, what do we do to keep people interested???? I will add for clarity - I have no problem putting my dogs up against and competing against already titled dogs, it is the way the system is, the titled dogs are not unbeatable and to come away with a BOB is a great feeling. I look forward to reading many more responses. :D
  4. Thank you Bulldust. I find the new site very hard to navigate. Edited ..............I found it!!!!! I went back into the VicDogs site and found that if you click on the puppies for sale, breeders directory, click on the letter for your breed, then it shows those breeds on the right hand side it gives you an option for edit Breeders Directory, click on your breed and it gives you on option to edit your listing, click on the pencil and it will allow you to edit your listing for a false or positive for a Litter Listing. It is not easy to find but once found you will know how to do it for the future. I still think it is not a friendly site to navigate.
  5. After talking to many people over the last few months I am curious to put it out there to see what others think. Should there be a seperate class for Champions that would compete only against other Champions for points, allowing a Grand Champion title and beyond. Which would leave non titled dogs to compete for points towards their Champion title and once obtained you would have to enter a Champion Class to show your dog. Would you be more likely to enter more dogs in order to increase your chances in the non titled classes to get the points needed for a Champion Title?? The conversations that I have had with many owners and breeders of all breeds of dogs have indicated to me that they would enter more dogs if this was an option to getting the 100 points needed for the title. Many have indicated that they only want to get the 100 points and then go on and do other disciplines where their dogs / and or keep more dogs in the ring. Many have also said it is near impossible in some breeds to get points as you have dogs out there being shown every weekend that have amassed in excess of 5000 plus points and counting. Would you consider the above option a viable consideration to be put to your State Canine Council and then onto the ANKC?? Do you think that by offering these classes that it would increase numbers of exhibits being shown and there fore help out those clubs that put on the shows and in a way help those smaller clubs out for "numbers" ?? I am very interested to hear your opinions on this topic. I look forward to reading the replies.
  6. Hi All, I hope somebody here can tell me where the help section is on the new Dogsvictoria website. I am specifically looking to delete a litter listing and I cannot find where to do it? I am hoping somebody here may be able to point me in the right direction. Thank you.
  7. I have these collars, I am very impressed with them! They are lightweight and nice and thin for little necks. I much prefer them over the more bulky ones that I have and won't use due to them being to bulky and stiff. But hey, each to their own. Look forward to seeing them on the baby newfies.
  8. Can you tell us why 9 weeks after a season????
  9. C is your best option based on the breed and also the country of export. C will also probably cost you a bit more but the "gamble" will be less risk.
  10. Positioning is everything. Some Vets just don't get that we have only one go at getting the score on our dogs and we want the best score we can get. Using a Vet who understands the importance of correct postioning is worth so very much to us, it is in some cases make or break. I wish you the best of luck Risyntira in resolving this.
  11. Great post Shortstep. I will continue to use the BVA / Willis Scheme. It gives a very clear picture of what we are looking at compared to some other systems out there that only give you an Excellent, Good or Fair etc and then you have A, B, C etc. and as well as all the other "gradings" I like to know where there are problems if any and the system we use here does give you a very detailed picture. I will never use the PennHip System and I think after all this time if was that great, then surely it would be more popular by now.
  12. I fed lots of raw meaty bones to our pups. We feed a BARF type diet to all of our dogs. What breed are you talking about? I introduce the bones to them at about 3 - 4 weeks, most of the time they can't eat them but they do mouth them and then start to eat them later on. Bones used; chicken necks, wings and frames. Lamb ribs, beef brisket bones, veal necks and ribs as well as venison necks and ribs when we can get them.
  13. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I was going to suggest the above, as it happens in humans, dogs no doubt have some incompatible situations like listed above.
  14. Why submit a name if you don't like it??? They make you list so many because there are so many prefixs out there, including the ones in use and all those that are no longer in use or who have never been used but registered. "They" will have to apply to the Canine Association to re-apply for one, which no doubt will at the very least cost more money, really not sure about how "they" will go so best to call and ask the question or put the question in writing to Dogs West to get an answer.
  15. Nekhbet that is one of the most absurd statements I have heard for a while. Seriously that "Vet" should give it up and walk away......... Back to the topic........... Any updates on the diagnosis on this boy???? I am hoping it is less serious type injury.
  16. That is a great price! I will be keeping them in mind for the future, thanks for letting us know Rottsup.
  17. As for the Breed average, you can source that through the AVA. Link HERE Just a reminder, the breed average is only calculated on those dogs that are in the system, it does not take in to account those dogs that have not been scored nor does it take in those scores that are not submitted into the system. Just something to be aware of. The example I will give you is the "Breed Average" currently for the Rottweiler is about 10, I know that this is not a true reflection as I am aware of many scores that are not put into the system. I would suspect that the "Breed Average" is much higher due to these higher scoring hips not being in the numbers. Based on that I know that the "Breed Average" for the Rottweiler is and should be much higher than listed. Good luck with the xrays!!!! Edited to add link for Breed Average
  18. Yep I agree with the statement above............your Vet must have Xray vision! The only way to confirm ED is by Xray. Seriously I would find another Vet. I would also seek out an experienced Chiro, Muscle Manipulator, Bowen Therapist or similar, there are many options available to you on your side of town, get him seen to and treated and with crate rest and limited exercise, hopefully your boy should be right. Sore fronts are a common injury in a lot of breeds, let us hope it is simple soft tissue injury, or maybe a ligament or tendon has been stretched / strained or something simple like that, either way get him looked at and you will get an answer.
  19. Lovely pics of the pups Blakbelgian. Most of our pups have gone home, we still have 3 here looking for their forever homes, from a large litter of 13 I suppose that is not bad. Seems the inquiries have all but stopped in the last week. :D I think I have homes for the 2 girls so that will leave me the pick male to place in a home where I can show him. Blakbelgian, have all of your pups found their forever homes????
  20. I would think a 90 x 90 would give you plenty of room if not maybe a bit to much, but I like my girls to have a bit of extra room in a box.
  21. So good to see a good news story about the Rottweiler. Good on you Dave, we salute you!
  22. Go Away, it is called stalking OT for a minute......... How is this stalking????? We are all entitled to comment in a thread and I really don't get your Stalking comment Laneka??? Now to get back on topic. I don't have a problem with those who choose to show a bitch in season, that is the owners choice, there are no rules that say you can't and I am one for following the rules so I see no reason not to. Of course the owner needs to show a little consideration and keep the bitch away from other dogs. Each to their own I think.
  23. OK I was wondering about that - we will go with soaking before we use it - I was wondering how often per week do you add to their feed? I add when I remember to add it, maybe three to four times a week and sometimes it may be over a week before I add it. It really depends on what the dogs are getting fed. We do a BARF style diet with our guys, so we can feed meaty bones for days and miss meals as such for a few more. I have been taking it as well as the OH, I don't have it everyday it depends on what I have for breakfast, but I do find in very high in fibre for the humans and the dogs, you only need to use no more than a teaspoon at a time for both, we have Rottweilers so a large dog. I think it is a super product and it gives a nutty type flavour so it is very tasty as well as extremely benificial. ETA; I have a dog that does not do well with flaxseed oil, he gets itchy when I use it with him. I use Chia with him and have swapped all of ours over to Chia, all are doing very well on it!
