  1. I have had some frustrating experiences with ASAP earlier this year but I kept in contact and stressed that as long as they were up front with me and could tell me what to expect I would continue to support them so I was given upto date info about the tests and what I could expect although my first tests took 3 months to get back to me that was because they were desperately trying to get a new system up and running where they could do multiple tests at one time. I have been informed by them that most tests are now good to go and my last set I sent took only a little over 2 weeks to get back to me. I have been told that for my tests (PLL & NBT) I can now expect 5-7 day turnaround for results so I am about to try again with my latest pups.
  2. Many years ago I saw this sequence played out with 2 GSDs and our 5 yr old daughter..............We were visiting neighbors and chatting while our daughter was throwing a ball for the dogs .........when suddenly I sensed that there was a change saw the two dogs herding my daughter away from us and the bitch stiffen and look intensely at our daughter........... just as she lunged I was able to shout an the bitch who luckily just skimmed my daughters ear and dropped to the ground..............it was extremely frightening how quickly it changed from play to something else. 3. When one of my girls really feels the need to scratch up and rearrange the bedding I put in a heap of face washers so that she can scratch up to her hearts content but the babies are not buried. Julie
  4. thats the one but the lab says from 4 weeks old when weaned (or in my case starting solids and able to be separated from mum for a few hours) Are you sending them to be tested by University of Missouri/OFA or AHT? It's such a new test Sept 2009, brilliant work on those who lead the research team. No the OFA said they could not organise a swab test for us but luckily the AHT in the UK researchers came to the party so that we could have the tools to work with.

  6. ;) I suppose I could do that although I would just need to put "Pup number X out of dam name" as I run an id chart on pups from birth and register them in birth order and markings on our pups are usually unique. Thanks Sway
  7. Someone posted here recently that they microchipp the pups a day or so after birth and use that to identify them. Obviously all the same colour. And they have scanner. In NSW there are a lot of mobile chippers so you can have it done early. In Victoria it has to be done by a vet so most people leave it until 6-7 weeks and do it with the vaccination. EF Typos we are aware that the results are not certified we just want the problem undercontrol so are testing to see how wide spread the problem is and some like myself who have litters with an identified carrier parent are just keen to know the statis of the pups in the litter I will have to check with my vet to see what the earliest age is they will microchip I know in Qld they are not allowed to microchip before 8wks so breeders there would have not choice but to wait
  8. Accurate DNA requires the microchipp detail so I cannot see your problem. I had to do DNA profiling for proof of parentage and it was done the ribbon colour for name. Once the dad was established I registered them and then told GT the name and got new DNA papers. Testing is done overseas and the timeframes make it difficult for timely results no doubt after January I will have to wait for microchipping anyway and will then test only the pups that I choose to stay on the main register and keep my fingers crossed that I have selected clears to run on and have not petted a quality potential clear in the litter.
  9. Not understanding this ? Don't you have to have them microchipped before the DNA test anyway ? My poodles have to be before any PRA test. They won't do it unless there is a microchip to ID the dog. Overall I have no problem with compulsary microchip, I do it anyway. Testing is voluntary for this condition and so for my own information so I have the pups ID as the registration at this time If it becomes required in the future I will have to wait for microchipping but our breed it is easy to distinguish individual pups.
  10. In general I think it is great but I have only one problem with Micrchipping required for Registration at present for some litters I rush my registrations so that I can identify pups when DNA testing pups for a specific problem in our breed. I can then make my choices as to which are definitely pets and which are contenders for the longterm health of our breed. By waiting the extra 2-3 weeks it will make the pups at least 10 weeks before I can even decide their future which in some cases make pups of our breed very difficult to place as pets. If I am pushed into discarding my breeding carriers before I have quality clear offspring to carry on with because it makes placing pups to difficult I worry that I am risking the longterm viability of my breed.
  11. Does anyone know how this treatment went? As I'm about to try cansema salve before the surgery option. I would love to know the details of the treatment. Regards J
