  1. CanineCoach, I LOVE that shot! Love the look on the dogs face! It's gorgeous, thanks for sharing. DunnyBrush, will look those up, thanks!
  2. Further to our discussion on another thread, I mentioned that I found it very inspirational to see video's and photo's of dogs being worked at top levels, so please if anyone has any pictures or video's of dogs competing in either obedience, agility, schutzhund, or any other doggie sport, please share them here so we can be inspired and re-ignite our goals!!!
  3. But the teeth chattering was soo cute! Reminded me of my grandpa............
  4. Yes the skipping in it made it look like the dog was constantly expecting something, altho I doubt he was food trained? Was still pretty awesome tho, maybe we should start an "I need to be inspired thread?' and have anyone that has inspirational video's put them up? I LOVE that video of Carolyn Scott and her Golden Retriever doing the freestyle doggie dancing! Anyone have that?
  5. Took me forever to download with my 18th century internet connection, but was so worth it!!! Please if anyone has anymore videos of Dogs doing any similar work, please post them! I love watching them, it's inspiring!!
  6. YAY!!! Thanks goodness you have dogs that are used to retrieving stuff! Mine would trip over it and go "what the hell was that??!!"
  7. K9 as Workndog said, I think Henrynchlo just has a personal vendetta agaisnt you, as I have not read anywhere where he/she has asked any questions about how the training works or what the principles behind it are. So unless you've killed a family member of his/hers that you're not telling us about...................... Don't even bother! I'm loving it and so are the dogs, can't wait to have you back in Vic again!
  8. I have a nearly 10 week old pup that I've had two weeks and he's being toilet trained with the crate. The crate is next to my bed and his bed covers the whole crate. I sleep with an ear open (great way of explaining it Tangerine Dream) and as soon as I hear him even snuffle, yawn, or whatever signals that he's awake I take him straight out. The first few nights it was two or three times, but he's now going from 10 pm til about 5 am, then we get another hours sleep before I get up at 6. Stupid me was sitting in bed watching telly last night when he started barking at me! I had already taken him out for a pee and a poo so I was just trying to calm him down in his cage, when with a look of complete contempt, he turned and peed on his bed! ;) Silly me, not listening to doggy! So I had to go chuck bedding in washing machine, and grab the spare, and while I was doing that he picked up his water bowl and ran through the lounge with it, spilling water everywhere. *sigh*Gotta love puppies! So I now know that if he barks, I take him out (He has me well trained............. )
  9. Actaully update on our training, timing is getting heaps better, and so are the dogs! There was no snapping today from the Shepherd at all (Which lasted all of, oh I don't know, 3 or 4 dangerous death defying days!! ) As he's figured out now what he has to do. I am SOOO loving this training!!!
  10. Phew! Thank goodness I can stop all this exhaustive drive training and just start smacking them! Thanks! ;)
  11. Glad there are others out there that are enjoying it, and seeing it as I'm seeing it! Not vicious mauling, but enthusiastic response to having fun and learning at the same time!
  12. Yep I agree, my post was merely an attempt at humour! Apparently not a very good one The dogs aren't really that bad, but I was so excited that they are getting so carried away over the whole thing and enjoying their training sessions so much now, that I felt the need to post about it! I will post about our progress when they are all perfect and I have no hiccups with them but until then, I am still ironing out kinks, and still find the whole thing quite funny! Yes like I said in the other post, next time we meet, we should introduce ourselves with out DOL'er names! As I would have liked to have met everyone else as well!!! ;)
  13. Ok I am new to this and I have a 12 month old GSD that has always been scolded for any show of teeth, so he's not in the best position to be starting this, so we are working through the what is acceptable and what isn't. The Dobe is heaps better as I have started him from day 1 and he knows that his toy gives satisfaction. I have 2 kids, one 8 and one 13, who quite happily play with my 'savage maulers' and the dogs are as gentle as lambs with them because they know I am the ONLY one that rewards their prey drive. I have also owned Bullmastiffs and staffies and ridgebacks and have NEVER had any problems with my dogs and kids!! My last 2 dogs were shepherds and the last one I bought as a puppy about a week after my son was born! Again, it is uneducated people like HCL that are making certain breeds now banned as they have no idea how to train a dog properly and I suppose 'manipulate' the dog to do what is wanted WITHOUT using any kind of punishment which in my mind leads to aggression. My shepherd and my Dobe are inside dogs and live with my kids and I have NEVER had a problem. I also own a stallion and breed horses and have fallen off several times in my lifetime, I suppose I should just give up riding because it's far too dangerous? I also ride a motorbike and have written one off in the last 12 months, so of COURSE I should stop riding as it's far too dangerous? I'm just glad I don't have HCL's life, as I'm actually ENJOYING mine!
  14. Search and rescue dogs are trained in the exact same way, and we all know how they savagely maul the poor people they find.............................Moron! If we are all so repulsive, please find another forum to dump uneducated opinions on, I'm sure no one will miss you
  15. Nope the point behind the training is that the dog only see's you as the holder of it's 'trigger' no other person has the same connection, so even if someone tries to play with the dog with the toy,it's not interested. If you saw it in action you'd be amazed. It makes training, especially to competition level so much easier, and makes the dog bond to you in no other way, or training method I have ever tried (And I've tried quite a few)
  16. Yes but our Shepherd runs away from us if something frightens him at home! LOL
  17. I think one of the quickest ways to find out if you're dog trusts you, is to take it somewhere it is likely to feel unsure, and see whether it runs back to you, or runs away or past you. If your dog runs back to you it views YOU as the leader, and protector. I think once that bond is there it makes it easier to introduce new things to it. I am in the same boat as you with our Shepherd, dog aggressive thanks to puppy classes, and bad advice (Correction, growling etc) and if he gets a fright, he just takes off! We haven't proven to him that we'll protect and look after him, so he doesn't trust us. It's a work in progress! That's why I think the whole training in Drive thing is so good, because all you are ever doing is playing with your dog, and moulding his reactions to what you want! There are no corrections involved, no growling, no punishment, all the dog ever hears from you is 'Yes!' not "No, bad dog!' I think that any older dog that already has a problem is probably unfixable, but you can still live with it if that makes sense. It's like having a special needs child! You don't get rid of them you find ways to make life easier for both of you!
  18. Yes you're right! And not only that, but how many dog owners are there out there that have NO IDEA about dog behaviour, or think it's great that their dog acts like it's going to kill everyone, or they just let their dogs go, and start chatting and have no idea what their dogs are up to! It's all those things that make me not want to take my dogs anywhere near where there are other dogs! My puppy has so far been to the local primary school every day, to shopping centres, to friends houses, inside shops and supermarkets (I actually got kicked out of Safeway this morning, I picked the day they had the health inspectors there! ) and he comes to work with me every day. I think it's important they are taken everywhere and get used to loud noises, trucks, odd places, people etc but there's no reason why they SHOULD be getting used to playing with other dogs! After only a week at home, my shepherd can be running the fence line barking while I'm outside with the puppy, and the puppy doesn't even look at him, let alone want to go over and meet him, and I can call him straight back when he sees him. So, I'm pretty happy so far
  19. Yes well my puppy has WAAAAY more food drive than he does prey drive at the moment, he's like a black and tan labrador or beagle! Have started using it tho, using bits of food in the same way as you use the toy, which he is responding well too. The TOT program is not advancing past a short sit as he's far too anxious to get to the food! I'm not going to be able to remove his lead for awhile yet..........
  20. Hmmmm not sure about an older dog! Altho our Shepherd that we have now was pretty much aggressive from when we got him, altho I have a secret suspicion that it was thanks to our little (WE thought) harmless Yorkie that had a go at him and started the whole thing off! So now all dogs are in seperate runs, get to play with us at different times, and come inside at different times. Makes it a little awkward sometimes, but like I said, the way it's 'supposed' to be done hasn't worked so far, and when you think about it the whole socialising thing doesn't really make sense! And it only takes one fright to scare the bejesus out of the dog for the rest of it's life!! We've been working with the Shepherd using K9 Force's drive methods (shown to us by Erny) and we can now work him around other dogs with him paying no attention to them, so that's fine by me! He doesn't HAVE to play with them for me to be happy, or for me to think his life isn't complete without having a dog as a best friend! So will keep you updated with new puppy!
  21. LOL!! A male Dobe with no drive? How on earth did THAT happen??!! And I was very sorry to hear about your bed AND your boob! ;)
  22. Myszka, yes, yes you will!! I am already suffering greatly at the hands, no I should say PAWS, of a 9 week old Dobe, I can only imagine what he will be like fully grown............ When do you get yours? And boy or a girl?
  23. I have a 9 week old puppy now so I am going through the same things you are! I feed natural, none of my dogs get commercial foods, there is a bit more preperation involved but I prefer it. As a guide this is what my guy gets fed, varying from day to day. raw beef or chicken mince mixed with vegetables (Beans, peas, creamed corn, carrots-you can buy tinned home brand vegies, makes it easy and cheap to feed) he has a tablespoon of natural yoghurt mixed through and small amount of garlic and seaweed meal (kelp) Then he'll have a lamb neck or shank. Then chicken necks or thigh pieces (Necks are good for puppies but are too small for most older dogs so switch to thigh or maryland pieces, or even chicken carcasses) He'll also have cottage cheese mixed with either baked beans or 3 bean mix or sardines, and then either porridge oats, or cooked brown rice, with an egg mixed through. You can vary the vegetables, but it's important that they get a mix of beef. lamb and chicken. You can also give offal, cheek flaps, etc once a week as well. All my dogs get these meals, different one each day, they are all healthy and seem to relish the food no problems, even my fussy little yorkshire terrier!
  24. K9: Yep doing that whole "oh you so think you're getting the ball right now, and ZAP, it's gone again!" However the Shepherd nows lands from his lunge at the ball and turns and nips me on the leg! Always the same leg too little bugger, I have one transparently white leg (Thanks to being 3/4 scottish) and my right leg is a nice black, bluish, kinda green colour from the top of my thigh down to halfway down the calf! Hey do you sell bite suits??!!............................
