Were they tied? Even if she is in season and is in fact in whelp there is no issue at all with waiting until about 4 weeks along and getting her desexed which is what I would be doing. Breeding is not for the faint hearted and best left to the experts who have done all the appropriate health tests. Just enjoy your pets for what they are, beloved pets

One of my puppy people is going through this with their lad. He was diagnosed 18mths ago, had chemo for 6mths which I believe cost around $1,000 - 1,500 that he tolerated extremely well. They said he was slightly quiet a couple of times but really you wouldn't have known there was anything wrong with him. I have had it with one of my bitches. We had to run progesterone tests and look for hormone spikes from memory but it had to be done at just the right time. Took me simply ages to work out what was wrong with her as she had a long history of UTIs etc and I thought this was just more of the same. I chose to live with it but yes did increase the risk of stump pyo and was a real pain to live with as I had entire dogs

Please do separate when you are not able to supervise. When things happen they don't behave like the beloved pets you know and love and far better to take sensible precautions than have to live with the regrets. Twice now I have had horrible incidents, once many years ago with a dog seizuring where I was actually in the room and 3 normally totally non aggressive dogs managed to put 200 stiches in her and more recently where my dear old 15 year old cat was getting a bit wobbly and the 13yr old dog she had lived with all her life attacked her when she become tangled up in the telephone cord and panicked. We tend to humanise our pets but when things like this happen they act like the animals they are.

I have owned a sheltie for over 30 years and I can't imagine ever not having at least one but I do like to have one other breed. At the moment it is an Aussie but would like to one day have a Golden and an American Cocker

Sometimes you don't have a choice but to leave them at the vet unattended overnight. We don't have 24hr vets and if your dog needs to be on a drip, well you are out of options.

I had a dog with similar issues and solved it by simply using scissors which she didn't seem to worry about. I did it daily to begin with and just snipped the ends off here and there and eventually I was able to scissor her in one go. Obviously the potential to cut the dog is there but if you go about it slowly and just snip the ends it lowers the risk

If you are moving to NZ and can prove he was your pet in Aust I don't think you have much to worry about, you shouldn't have to pay GST. As a breeder I have had considerable issues with Customs but have learnt sadly that there really is no arguing with them as they are holding your dog to ransom.

Honestly if that is everything including the NZ side it is quite a good price. I imported a 10kg dog 3mths ago and it cost me nearer to $3,000 all up. I wouldn't even consider trying to do it without an agent unless you are very experienced as if everything isn't done exactly right they will refuse your dog entry into the country

My vet has always said 2-3mths after a season or she has weaned her puppies is ideal as everything has had time to return to normal and it lowers the risk of incontinence.

Is this only happening whne you have girls in season? My dogs lose control of thier brains at times like that and I can't really see any bark collars working in this instance

Had to add one of the best things I did with Cowan was get him scoped by a specialist. Yes it was another sedation but it was videoed and we basically examined everything internally from one end to the other and was able to determine exactly what was wrong. Prior to that we were really just guessing

I would also seriously consider the low residue food. You have to feed a lot less to get the same calories and it has made my life a lot easier. I use the Royal Canin one

Have you tried different meds? For instance Losex controls stomach acid which may or may not be contributing to the issue? I have a dog with health issues and if he doesn't have his Losex he is very burpy and inclined to vomit. He also can only have liquid food, mainly due to a throat issue but I find he is a lot more comfortable now I have him on liquids only

When my brother was buying a Lab we went and brought one off a very reputable breeder. Met the dam, lovely bitch and was quite impressed by the quality of the puppies so we picked one and toddled off home. My brother was away the weekend the puppy come home so I was in sole charge of the 8 week old baby and it become very obvious that it was quite an aggressive puppy. Over the course of the weekend it bit me several times normally over food and was quite a sharp puppy so I decided to return the puppy. That puppy and several of its littermates went on to have a lifetime of aggression issues which resulted in pts. really the breeder shoudl have manned up and had them pts as babies

Washing machine wise I brought a Bosch Front loader. Is great for the dogs as the front section by the door collects the dog hair and I have never had a blockage yet. I was always getting blockages with my top loader F&P

One of my shelties Bree has a kink in her back which as she has got older has started to cause a few issues in that she was starting to have issues with her rear end. It was shaking all the time, starting to drag one of her back feet , she could no longer jump and generally just not as mobile as she could be. I tried a few different things but the one thing I have had the most success with is Chinese medicine. She has really responded to it and is much better. I am realistic enough to know it is just delaying the enviable but I will take what I can get

I have had some reasonably horrific litters over the years that looking back you wonder how you got through. You cope because you have to. My last litter Chilli ended up with a c-section after green discharge over the course of a week. It is fair to say the operation didn't go well, normally I stay for the operations but I was escorted out. She took a while to recover but she did and everything went well until about 2 weeks when she decided not to fed them. Coped with that and then at 6 weeks they got kennel cough. Coped with that and then my house was in quarantine with suspected mange. These puppies had homes waiting for them but I couldn't home itchy puppies so the entire litter had to stay for quite some time until we worked out it was an allergy to something in the garden. There were 6 puppies and all my adult dogs being treated for mange. Sadly I can't even say this was my worst litter. Generally when something like this happens it takes me around 3yrs to have another litter. The first year is never again, the second year memories aren't quite as fresh and it doesn't seems so bad and by the third year I am planning my next litter. You do have to be tough to be a breeder. It is certainly not all cuddly puppies and happy people but there is something kinda cool about being the first person to hold a life in your hands and watching them grow and mature and then age and then being with them when they pass.

When I first moved in here there was a huge feral cat problem. My place is just out of town but rural enough and down a quiet no exit road which made people fell safe enough to dump their unwanted cats here. This situation wasn't helped by the lady down the road providing some food and zero medical care. It was absolutely revolting, they were starving and diseased and there were so many of them. I couldn't ignore the situation so decided to start trapping with a view to rehoming. Didn't really work out as if they have been wild for some time as these had, they are very difficult to tame. Medical costs were huge, took ages to get them suitable to rehome and then nobody really wanted them and in the meantime the remaining ones were breeding. It was a horrible situation. Now days my neighbour catches just about everyone who even thinks about dumping a cat here and the ones he doesn't I get hold of the cats fairly quickly and do my best to rehome. Our SPCA won't take them and we don't have rescue. Fortunately we haven't had that many in recent years

Over the course of my dog owning life I have been lucky enough to have a couple of dogs that have picked me as their person above all others. Currently I have Cowan who really isn't that interested in anyone other than me. He is not spooky, just merely takes a step back so those unfavoured people can't touch him. If they push it and try and bribe him with food he looks away and pretends he doesn't see/hear them. It does have it's disadvantages as he is extremely difficult to leave with anyone if I want to go away. On the other hand I have also had a dog who I am pretty sure didn't like me. She suffered my pats and cuddles but I always got the feeling I didn't quite measure up for Millie. Fortunately we become closer as she aged, she was a real character.

I would go and visit all the neighbours, tell them about the letter, say if it is your dogs you are very grateful to the person who left the letter and ask for their help in rectifying the situation. This way you get them on side straight away and they can help you find out what is causing the barking. Without that information it is very difficult problem to tackle. I have had great success with this and if there is something causing an issue that is causing excessive barking they have rang me at work so I am able to shoot home and fix whatever is causing the problem. It has worked great for me
