In my experience stain removal and whitening are too different things. Whitening shampoo does not remove stains. I generally use good old sunlight soap, rinse well and repeat if I have too, then a whitening shampoo

As a breeder I tend to leave my girls at home after they have been bred. I don't believe in showing in whelp bitch not matter what sport. They certainly don't become instant couch potatoes but I avoid anything that places stress on them and also places with a high population of dogs. It is easy to dismiss the risk of disease but they are more open and susceptible to infection. Instead I tend to normally exercise them and keep them as fit and toned as possible without stressing them. I definitely would not even consider jumping or flyball at any stage in their pregnancy

I don’t know a great deal about dementia other than one experience where my old girl suddenly become terrified of the fridge and wouldn’t walk past it and would pace for hours. The vet said there was some medication that would help but she unfortunately had to be pts for other issues before we could investigate it. Might be worth talking to the vet

Lovely Freckles, thanks folks

Stunning Freckles will definately add that one to my collection but any chance I could have his entire body, might have to be without the internal frame?

New pictures taken today if someone has time. Firstly the stacked one, would love the background made black and white, then I would love one done similar to page 151 post 2258. Not sure which one should be in the background but would like to see all of his body in the stacked shot Thanks

Are they actually impacted or are they just leaking as these are 2 different issues. My girl Kayla had the leaking issue, normally when she was jumping on the couch or barking and it was horrible to live with. They were not infected or impacted as the stuff coming out was quite liquid. Anyhow I went to a new vet and he said he has had great success with injecting antibiotic liquid through the holes in the glands themselves. He said no real idea why it works but it does and it did. No more issues and that was years ago. It had been an ongoing issue for over a year

Please Help - Ruptured Disc In Neck Of Rotty
cowanbree replied to Bacchus's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Are you sure he has hurt his neck? I have had a sheltie that I found without any warning collapsed outside, she couldn’t walk and was totally out of it. Rushed her to the vet and he told me it was an inner ear thing which nothing other than time would cure. To be honest I didn’t believe him as how could an inner ear thing cause my dog not to be able to walk, have rapid eye movement and have a head tilt and sway but it was. Over 2-3 days she came out of her daze and over the next 4 weeks she learnt to walk again. No medication, no operation and while I won’t say she ever completely recovered (was very unsteady on lino and had a permanent head tilt) she went on to live a quality life for another 12mths. Apparently this is quite common in older dogs and often misdiagnosed as either a stroke or spinal issues -
Love them, thanks folks

Yes Freckles along that lines but still with the frame of in the first picture, perhaps the green a little softer

Harminee, could I be a pain and get the background changed in the Kell one. Perhaps so it looks like she has a blended grass field behind or or even the sky. I like bold colours rather than pastels, am going to get it framed for my memories wall

Love it, thanks although would you mind changing the writing to just say Kell Also feel free to use any you have done for me it you want too

I have found the pills work better for me, have used the last ones so can’t tell you the name of them but works better than propalin. The only disadvantage that I can see with them is that occasionally if I overdose her she becomes very attractive to males. Millie only needs a pill about every 3 or 4 days to control her whereas she was getting the propalin daily and it wasnt working all that well. I have also read a lot about the use of cornsilk in these issues, might be work thinking about

Would love someone to do something with this picture of my old girl Kell for her vale notice – we lost her yesterday at the grand age of 15 ½. Nothing too complicated, I would like it to look natural but the background is terrible here and perhaps with the frame that was used for Mya and Sterling’s picture. Wish I had brushed her as she looks a bit wooly but this is the Kell I remember, very serene and just a lovely dog

Thanks everyone, appreciate the help Sandgrubber Kell has been seen by the vet on a number of occasions over this, she is being treated but I wasn’t all that happy with what he suggested which was antibiotics, wash the foot a couple times daily and wait for it to drop off. I have been into the health shop and brought the Alovera Gel, it says on the back not to apply to broken skin but I have lathered it on in any case and we will see what happens. Scales of Justice, how far gone was your leg, was it smelling? This incident only happened Thursday 10 days ago, noticed she was going black in the foot 8 days later. We don’t have open sores yet but it is quite unpleasant smelling Rappie tried to get your cream but it isn’t available over here unfortunately. I went into the vet again today and asked him what he thought her chances were as she was an old dog and I didn’t want her to suffer. He said he considers that she has a good chance of retaining at least the majority of the foot and unless something changes she should be ok. Very difficult as I want what is best for her and I am trying not to be selfish but still want to give her every chance

Regarding the blue tinge I wouldn’t worry too much, it will come off with time. She obviously used too much. If you are very concerned about it just wash the dogs, comes off easily. Regarding the smell, how often are you bathing them. A dog bathed 6-8 weekly shouldn’t have any smell. What are you feeding?
-
Thanks Rappie, will see if that is stocked over here and try it
-
Thanks folks I have personally wondered if this is a spider bite myself. Scales of Justice, did you lose any of the area or did the gel heal it? If it was poor circulation wouldn’t more than one foot be affected? Very hard situation, she is 15 and this is the 3rd major health issue in 18mths. I don’t want to give up too soon but neither do I want her to suffer esp if it is going to be for nothing

Nah, my vet is a keeper. I just wish he was a bit more talkative. He has already given me his opinion, no it won’t spread and we need to wait until all the flesh dies before we can do anything further. He would prefer not to operate given her age and thinks the dead flesh will fall off . He thinks she will be fine unless something else happens, I am just looking for some real life experiences to make me feel better

Foot injury about a week ago – vet thought damage ligament as no visible injury. Toes have been going black over the weekend so off to the vet today expecting to hear badly bruising but he said the front 2 toes have gangrene. Basically what I am wanting to know is does it spread and how long will it take for the toes to drop off. He seems to think it won’t spread and other than giving me some antibiotics has said just to leave it alone. There is healthy pink skin (it is a bit inflamed) directly above the toes. He is blaming either a blot clot in the foot or a squeeze type injury, there is a definite line. My issue is that this is a very old dog. She deserves a chance but I don’t want to put her through a hard time for nothing. My vet is not that talkative and just says wait and see

Just wanting some information on gangrene, anyone had any experience esp in feet please pm me

I have had one remove her external stitches 3 days after being spayed, she was fine and had healed sufficiently to leave it. Another very active girl did something internally which caused a huge bulge to form along the incision. I can’t remember what the vet said it was, might have been to do with internal stitches but not sure. I had kept her crated for 3 days and then thought she would be ok so let her loose – she wasn’t. The bulge did go down over time. The rest have gone fine and I have probably done 15-20 spays

Overweight Dogs Doing Dogs Sports
cowanbree replied to Cosmolo's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
They are allowed to train but only jump the lowest level at out club while reducing in weight. That said I have just as much issue with some of the dogs I consider way too skinny. There is a women here that has a sheltie that would be 5kg max. Should be around 7-8kg and is a bag of bones but apparently they run better when they are lean. While you should be able to feel ribs and the dog should have a waistline as far as I am concerned if you can see ribs the dog is too skinny
