Seems really strange to me. It is the same packaging and everything. Has anyone contacted the main branch and asked how this is possible. Lamb and rice is hardly going to be great for sensitive skin if it has grains in it

I have always kept my dogs crated for the first couple of days and then monitored activity for the week after but this happened to me nearly a week after the operation. Vet said in an active dog such as an aussie complete crate rest or on lead only exercise until stiches are out. Never had an issue previously with my shelties

As long as she is happy most of the time just love her while she is here. It is very difficult when they get older but it is also a very special time
-
My aussie had the same thing. My vet was concerned she had burst her internal stitches but it was because I had not kept her quiet enough. I had to keep her crated for the next week and it went away. Personally I would at least ring the vet

Yes Kells got worse before it got better. The first week was horrific and it was a number of mths before I trusted her to safely do simple things such as go down the one step into the section. Hope your girl is on the improve soon

Did everyone see the Crufts Cowboy one this year. I loved it or this link which is closer but not playing correctly for me

My old girl Kell had it, I originally thought she had a stroke. She recovered to live another 2 years but always had a head tilt. It took her a long time to recover and we had to adapt things for her such as stairs as her sense of balance was never quite the same but she lived a great life. She only ever had the one episode although my vet did warn me that once affected they can reoccur.

Thanks everyone for your help. Spoke to my vet today and we had done some research into it. he wants to wait until next time and do a blood test as well as a swab to confirm prior to operating which is fair enough considering she is all but finished this time. Lowenhart, thanks for that. As far as I can see there are none within a 20hr trip but if my vet can't help me I will look into it further

With respect, I have witnessed Vets diagnose this during a Spey, often coupled with polycystic ovaries and other abnormalities. Would you be able to explain how it causes bleeding? I was always of the understanding that the blood of a season comes from the uterus linings which obviously is no longer there in this case

I am in NZ and unfortunately we don’t have repro vets here. My vet is a great vet but lacks the specialist knowledge that would be handy in cases like this. My first reaction was to operate as she is a fit and health dog but the bitch has had reoccurring UTI since a baby as a result of a pouch just inside the entrance where the urine pools. She has had multiple surgeries to correct this and I am conscious of the fact that she has never really been normal in that region and has a lot of scaring.
-
To be honest I don’t fully understand how there is bleeding considering she is spayed. The incidences are roughly 6mths apart, there is no swelling but she has a slight bloody discharge which is not a UTI (tested for via urine multiple times), shows no sign of infection via the swab but does contain estrogen. She is apparently quite inflamed and sore looking just inside her vagina. As far as the dogs are concerned she is in full season. The vet said he has never struck this before.

My workmates dog ate a small bag of sultanas and died as a result, very toxic

I have a 5yr old bitch who has been spayed for around 3 years. During this time we have ongoing issues with bleeding about 6mths apart but swabs proved inconclusive as to cause. This time we obviously took the swab at the correct time and it has estrogen in it which means it is likely she has a small bit of ovarian tissue left behind when she was spayed. My first reaction was it would have to be corrected but my vet said it is like looking for a needle in a haystack and is a major operation so has advised against it. I have a number of entire dogs and a bitch in season creates havoc so I would really like it fixed. Has anyone else had this issue and had it corrected? Was it easily found and was it a major operation?

I have a dog that I have had extensive and severe hot spot issues so have tried every treatment round. The most effective for me was to give him a pred and apply Listerine, really worked well. One thing I would say is anyone who has more than the odd hot spot should seriously considering sending a thyroid test to Jean Dodds. Thyroid testing was one of the first thing I tried when Mac started having skin issues and it come back low normal. I chose to run the TSH test to make sure it wasn’t thyroid and it also came back in the normal range so I ruled out thyroid. Move forward 4 years, I had a seriously ill dog on my hands with skin issues so bad I seriously considered pts. I am still not sure what made me do it but I chose to send a sampler over to Jean and Mac came back requiring supplementation. She recommended I start supplementation and that I eliminate all cereal and grains, it is 4 mths down the track and I have my dog back

Diet Help For My Dog With Colitis
cowanbree replied to daccydog's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Mac has this to the degree that the vet wanted to pts. I have consulted a homeopath and also totally changed his diet to 100% raw, no cereal or grain, no dry food. This has helped when nothing else has. He is still not 100% but dramatically improved -
Thanks everyone for the ideas. Santa was very good to me and brought me a Wacom for Xmas so I am away to have a play
-
I have photoshop and am using it to play round with some pictures of my dogs on different backgrounds. I am using the extract function under filter and then smudging the edges to blend it into the background. I find I am losing the detail of the hair on the edges and the image looks cut out. How else can I do this? Links to tutorials would be great, I have searched but none appear to deal with my lack of clarity around the edges issue

Lack Of Appetite In A Pregnant Bitch/any Ideas?
cowanbree replied to shilo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Shilo, it is very common and while it can drive you demented the bitchs appear fine. My last litter Asya ate next to nothing her entire pregancy and nothing at all the last week. She was a bag of bones but had 6 healthy puppies that she reared by herself with no issues. The minute she had those puppies she started eating again and I basically free fed her as much as she wanted. It took me 6mths to get her back to a res[pectible weight but she and all the puppies were fine -
I guess it depends on breed as I have a Liberty stand dryer and hate it, way too slow and lacking power after years of using a barrel dryer. It does give a better finish but I wouldn't buy it again

Opinions....older Dogs Balance Is Going.
cowanbree replied to toofarnorth's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
A head tilt normally accompanies vestibular. There is nothing medically that can be done for them, they normally come right with time but do suffer repeat bouts -
I have a sheltie that in routine blood tests it was picked up that his T4 was low at 17 with a normal reference range of 20-60. We ran the TSH test and confirmed with a 92% certainty that he is low in thyroid rather than due to stress or illness. My issue is this is a fit and healthy dog with no symptoms at all. Does he really need supplementation? I have googled it and while it tells me all the symptoms I can’t find anything on the benefits of supplementation when there are no clinical symptoms. Perhaps he is a dog that only needs a low thyroid function? Anyone with experience in this?

Additionally it would be very difficult to break down a pill meant for a 80kg plus person for a tiny 5kg dog and the result of getting it wrong are very serious
-
Bree discharged old brown blood for ages after desexing. I did take her in but the vet said as long as it wasn't red blood indicating new bleeding and she was eating well and quite happy to just keep an eye in her. She was fine

Over the years I have tried every elimination diet around with Mac as he has had terrible skin issues. We have finally decided that he is a celiac with thyroid issues and he has been doing really well on Nutro lamb and rice which is gluten free and basically only contains lamb and rice, no other wheat or meat proteins. He is finally stopped scratching and is starting to grow some hair back so I would be reluctant to change his diet, he has so many triggers. I am just back from the vet where we took more bloods. He tells me the med he gave me were for IB and considering if anything they made him worse he doesn’t think it is that. I guess we wait for blood results
