  1. Not too sure about this one as while it does look to have some more recent data, for my breed it only has 3 dogs listed as being scored (the one I posted has 27 and looks to be data from 2000 to 2004 incl). I know for a fact that more than three Pyreneans have been scored in the period from 2005 to 2009 and that there were scores both higher and lower than the ones mentioned. Perhaps it only means NZ hip sent to aust to be read as there is no way the info for shelties is correct. I have scored dogs since 2001 with hips higher and lower than what is on the first link.
  2. I have had them whelp from days 59 to 64 days and unfortunately the vast majority of mine are via c-section.
  3. I have had to have this surgery done a number of times over the years. They normally just scrape the top of the ulcer and then sew the eye shut. Not a long operation or overly hard one. I have never had the drops work
  4. How absolutely devastating for you and that poor dog. It hardly seems likely she will have developed something worthy of being pts in just 3 weeks. As a matter of principle this family should receive no refund but that doesn't bring her back.
  5. Excellent news, fingers crossed for more improvement - she will be home soon. Cowan was extremely lucky to live through his ordeal and it was a rollercoaster ride that went on for nearly 6mths. While under aesthetic for his numerous operations he suffered from acid burns to his throat which resulted in him having to be fed by stomach tube for many mths and even now 18mths on he is unable to eat solid food. His was also a result of a bone and while the dogs love them I am not sure I will ever feed one again
  6. Hoping Mindy is doing better today. I know how stressful it is, had the same experience 18mths ago. Cowan had 3 major surgeries and several other small ones as well as peritonitis but he is sitting at my feet today. It was a long and tough road though
  7. No doubt in my mind at all. I just walked into the kitchen and Reeve took off outside at great knots and wouldn't come back in. I had absolutely no idea that he had done anything but he had got up on the bench and eaten all the meat for the dogs tea, little brat
  8. I get enquiries like this all of the time and to be honest I would have just said I don't have anything suitable to be bred from available and left it at that. This is for 2 reasons firstly they may well come back and say it wasn't that important to them and they will desex but also because if they are serious about breeding your response has trained them what not to say to the next breeder they e-mail.
  9. Difficult question. Our pound does not as a rule adopt out their dogs as they do not have the facilities to hold dogs over their 10days or quarantine them. The odd one does go to the SPCA but they are always quite full so generally any dog not claimed is pts because they will not risk adopting out sick dogs. Vaccinating would be an additional cost on a very tight budget and couldn't be done until the last day anyhow as the dog is not their property until then. I personally rescued a sheltie from them 2 weeks ago and was informed prior to picking him up that they currently had parvo in the kennels. It was then my choice as to whether I took him. I think anyone not aware there is some risk is quite naive.
  10. Use the lead or collar right behind the ears and choke it. It does place you at great risk of being bitten but it works
  11. I will always have a sheltie hopefully
  12. Any bitch that has had a c-section is at an increased risk of having another if she is bred again but I know many who have gone on to have normal litters. A lot depends why she had a c-section. A stuck puppy is unlikely to cause a c-section in future litters but if she had inertia that seems to get worse as they get older in my experience.
  13. I have although it took me ages to decide to and I had to call in a fellow breeder to meet this person and confirm my suspicions that there was nothing wrong with the home other than the fact that the person grated on my nerves. She has offered this puppy a super home for many years now but every time I ring to check on my or she rings with an update I have to mentally prepare myself. In the end I figured I didn't have to live with her whining and as long as she loved and looked after my puppy that was the most important thing.
  14. I find in shelties as they grow they can sometimes get a weepy eye. It seems to happen as the head changes shape and lengthens and the comes right. I would get it vet checked but if the vet doesn't think it is something serious and it is not irritating the puppy just sit back for a while and see if it clears up.
  15. I kept track for a month once. Never going to do that again, I felt so queasy I had to sit down. I prefer not to know.
  16. That is a pretty narrow point of view. I know many breeders with over 10 dogs, myself includes whose dogs live wonderful lives. In fact I have a fellow breeder who has over 20 dogs and if I ever come back as a dog I would like to be one of hers. They are house dogs during the day with the run of acreage to play on if they so desire. Plenty of friends to play with, good food, extremely well looked after and considering neither her or her husband work plenty of attention. Far superior to the average pet home
  17. I think it really does depend on the dogs. I have had a mother daughter pair that I was sure was going to cause major problems when I lost one. It didn't. I let the daughter see her mother, she went and had a good look and just carried on with her life. I have also had 2 dogs that I wouldn't have said were that close. Yes friends but definitely Quest got rather sick of Reeve at times and liked her own company. We lost Quest 5mths ago and Reeve was beside himself with grief He is a fit and healthy 2yr old and I have had major issues
  18. That doesn't mean anything. I have been advertising on and off for nearly 10mths but have only had 1 litter. I just haven't found the exact right home for one of my pups and I refuse to settle. I think it is a personal thing. My norm would be a litter every 2-3years but I have had 3 litters in the last 3 yrs and I can tell you that is too many for me. I work full time and put a lot into my puppies, I find them life consuming.
  19. May consider it if she wasn't a maiden, maybe but in this case no I wouldn't, too old for me.
  20. I do breed and rescue but I am always very aware of the risk I place my dogs in and am very careful. One case of parvo at my house would mean the end of breeding for me. I only take dogs that have been quarantined elsewhere and would not risk my well planned litter with puppies that could have been exposed to all manner of diseases.
  21. The majority of our shows are outside and I have shown in some truly terrible weather. I usually stay in the car until the last minute and then dash out with umbrella, show in normal clothes and then get changed. I don't get to many shows and all but 1 of my shows a year involve staying away for the weekend. Having said that the last show I was at I only stayed for the one day as it was so wet I was standing in mud up over my ankles trying to toilet dogs and it took me ages to get their whites clean again with no bathing facilities at the motel and that was before I got to the show.
  22. Which of the Holistic Select range is grain free?
  23. You can do PenHip at 5mths but it is relatively rare, I don't know anyone who does it. It is more normal to x-ray once the dog is mature and the minimum age for that is 12mths so I would seriously doubt a 8mth old is hip scored
  24. She is top bitch but generally gets on fine with all my other dogs
  25. Both dogs are desexed. I am not worried about her fighting with her son Loki, more that she will bully him as that is what she is doing to her daughter here. He is quite a soft dog and will submit but then so do her daughters and yet she does it over and over. It is almost as if she doesn't like this litter. Her first litter she was a devoted mother who I had trouble getting to wean her puppies. This litter she wanted to wean them at 3 weeks and My main issue is the distance and the fact that her potential new owners are new dog owners. I have discussed this with them at length and they still want to try but I am serious doubts esp when they start talking about how they want the son Loki to be top dog. There is absolutely no way a 7mth old puppy is going to be top dog over this bitch. As sweet and lovely as she is, she is top bitch here over quite a number of bitchs who are older than her
